Minimum payment goes up because I made extra payments to principal on education loan? When I started making payments on my education loan my minimum payment was around $130 a month. I increased my payment to $150 so I could pay it down quicker. The extra automatically goes toward principal. Now I've changed my budgeting plan and started putting the extra dollar amount towards a different payment that I have. When I called the loan service center to make this change, I was told that my old minimum payment no longer applies and actually went up a little. The rep said it was because I owed less on my loan so that affected my payment. I thought it was my decision to control how much extra went towards principal and it would never make my minimum balance go up. I didn't refinance. Since my minimum payment went up it's like the loan company is trying regain the interest they would have earned had I not put extra towards principal. Is this legal?
How did MOHELA take over my loan from the US Department of Education? I have a student loan from the US Department of Education. (Direct Loans) My loan is paid on-time, every month, and in good standing. I received a letter in the mail today from MOHELA claiming that they have taken over my student loan and I should start paying them. Here is what they claim in the direct mail they sent me: WHY WE ARE CONTACTING YOU: Effective 11/10/11, your federally-owned student loan account, previously serviced by the Direct Loan Servicing Center, is now being serviced by MOHELA, Department of Education Servicer. MOHELA is honored to be selected as your servicer and we look forward to providing you with excellent service. --End of quote-- MOHELA's address: 633 Spirit Drive., Chesterfield, MO. 63005 I have never contacted MOHELA for any reason. I went to school in California. I am from California. I have never even been to Missouri in my life. How could they have possibly got ahold of my loan? My loan is not past due, and has always been paid on time. I have never attempted to consolidate my loan, or change it to a loan servicing center. Is it legal for them to just suddenly take over my loan? Is this a scam? I have never contacted MOHELA in my life, I still have not contacted them. I just received this letter in the mail out of the blue. Is this legal? Should I contact the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint? Can I sue them for harassment?

Why does the student loan center ask about my car? I am a university student and I apply for student loans to help me finance my own education (scholarships just don't cover it). On the student loan apps, it asks if I currently own or lease a vehicle, then it asks the make and model and year of the vehicle. Why does it do this? Technically I don't own a vehicle but I am in possession of a car that's owned by my mom. Would I get more or less funding if I claimed ownership of the vehicle (I would then get the vehicle ownership transferred to my name). I just feel like they are counting it as an asset and might give me less funding if I say I have a car. Maybe they assume I could always sell it for more money. But maybe they will give me more money if I say I have a car, because then I am paying insurance and gas money too. What do you think? Better to keep the ownership on mom's name, or mine?
I am from India. I took an education loan from SBI, I was unable to pay it on time , so they declared my loan? a non performing asset(NPA) . Now I have paid most of the oan only 45000 rupees is left , in this they have included 15000 rupees of advocate fee. But I dont understand why should I pay for it? can it be waivered?
Can I pay back a loan early? Hi I'm a freshman in my college and I accepted a loan (roughly $2000) from the U.S. Department of Education's Direct Loan Servicing Center. Is it possible to pay it back early (because my grants already exceed my tuition fee) ??
My school is not associated with any lenders, where can i get a loan to pay for it? I'm currently enrolled in a Vocational Nursing program at an Adult Education School that starts this August. The total cost of the school is about $12,000, but the school does not have a financial aid center nor is it associated with any lenders. Can anyone help find a student loan or anything that can help me pay for school?
Does the army have a program to help pay off existing student loans? I am new to the Army. I have racked up two degrees and plenty of student loans. I have 48000 in federal loans which the Army is going to pay for. but I have 4000 in personal loans that the Army will not take care of. I want to go back to school for a Masters, but I cannot get my transcript to prove that I already have the credits to prove that I have the necessary credits. I have been to ACS, the education center and the VA. none of them have a program. is there a loan or a program that the Army has that I can take advantage of?
Is it possible to get a loan or student loan to pay for 100% of a flight training program? If I enroll in a college that offers all ratings are there student loans that will cover 100% of flight costs, what about if I was to just get training from a non-college training center. what's my best bet, its either that or off to the military for education benefits I can use three years later.
How to get a Business loan? I would like to start a franchisee for Computer Education, Ticketing, DTP & browsing center
Forgot to include a Form 1098-E in my amended 2009 taxes? The Direct Loan Servicing Center (DLSC) for government loans did not send me a Form 1098-E because I paid less than $600 in education loan interest in 2009, so they either are not obligated to send it out or because I opted for electronic mailing I was expected to check their website instead for all applicable forms. But after I already electronically filed my 2009 taxes via Turbo Tax (and already received my refund), I found out that a Form 1098-E was on file in the DLSC website anyways and it indicated that I paid around $250 in interest, so I downloaded it and amended my taxes through Turbo Tax as well since they were filed electronically originally. But Turbo Tax said I have to mail in my amended tax return, as electronic amendments were not permitted, so I printed it out (1040X and all) and mailed it, but did not attach the 1098-E that I forgot to report in the first place. The reported interest of $250 on the 1098-E that I paid in 2009 increased my refund by only $75, but should I have included that Form 1098-E with my amendment or will the government already have it on file already considering it indicated on the 1098-E, as on most forms, that such info will be furnished to the IRS? I hate to be audited over an additional $75, as I was just trying to report everything properly, including the Form 1098-E which was never mailed to me due to reasons I explained earlier. Should I just mail in the Form 1098-E separately since I mailed my amendment already, or should I just wait and see if the IRS requests more information at this point? Thanks.
Any info about the Sylvan Learning Center to share w/me? I am about to sign papers for a $7000 loan for my grandaughter to attend the Center. I've read all of their brochures and it sounds good but has anyone out there ever used their services? Is it worth the money? Is that too much to pay for Tutoring? My grandaughter seems to enjoy going. During the school year she got a little lost in math and she refuses to work on math with anyone here in the house. Her education is very important to us, the sad thing is that she in only in the second grade. She is an above average reader it is just the math that throws her off. Any info about the Center would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Study: Blacks pay higher auto loan rates As if we didnt know this already? WASHINGTON - Blacks have been charged higher auto loan rates than other auto buyers, federal research says. But the gap in loan rates could narrow, and possibly disappear, as the result of recently concluded lawsuits. ADVERTISEMENT Blacks paid a typical auto loan rate of 7 percent for new cars, compared with a rate of 5 percent for whites in 2004, according to a consumer organization's analysis of the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances. That was the most recent survey available. And blacks were more likely than auto buyers in general to have auto loan rates higher than 15 percent. For used car loans, 27 percent of blacks who buy cars were charged interest rates of 15 percent or more. Blacks were three times as likely as whites — 27 percent to 9 percent — to have auto loan rates at least that high, according to the report released Monday. Hispanics were paying a typical rate of 5.5 percent for new car loans, while 19 percent of Hispanics had loans for used cars over 15 percent, the analysis found. Lenders' suggested quote rates are based largely on the buyer's credit history, but auto dealers often raise the rate higher than that risk-related rate without discussing the rate with the customer, consumer advocates said. And they question the causes of those rate differences. "It's hard to believe that any differences in creditworthiness explain all of these rate gaps," said Stephen Brobeck, executive director of the Consumer Federation of America. "They size you up, the car salesmen and finance and interest guys. They must think African-Americans are more vulnerable to a markup." But a series of legal actions against auto finance firms seeking fair treatment for minorities could help solve that problem. "We had 11 lawsuits, the last of the cases settled last month," said Stuart Rossman of the National Consumer Law Center. "We reached a settlement with each of the finance firms. Our cases involved discrimination. We believe the terms of the settlements will eliminate discrimination." The first of the lawsuits was filed in 1998 in Nashville, Tenn., against General Motors Acceptance Corporation and was settled in 2004. The last settlement became final in April. The effects of those legal actions may not be known for some time, however. The National Auto Dealers Association questioned what accounts for the rate differences, but encouraged auto buyers to do their homework before going to buy a car. "The question that still is unanswered is why," said David Hyatt, a spokesman for the dealer's association. "People should do their homework and shop around. It speeds up the transaction, makes for a smoother transaction and is more likely to result in a satisfied buyer." Hyatt said an organization supported by the auto dealers, Americans Well Informed on Automobile Retailing Economics (AWARE), offers tips to potential car buyers. Chris Stinebert, president and chief executive of the American Financial Services Association, said his group is interested in educating consumers. "AFSA and its members believe there is no place for discrimination in the vehicle financing system," he said. The lawsuit settlements against auto finance companies call for caps on dealer markups, opportunities for blacks and Hispanics to get loans with no markups within the next few years, more information about interest rate terms and consumer education for minorities. "The lower markup caps have leveled the playing field," Rossman said. Consumer advocates say prospective auto buyers should call their bank or credit union for a rate quote to expect on an auto loan. That could protect them from unfair markups. Other ways to hold down costs. _Make all loan payments on time. _Buy a used car, or a less expensive new car. _Take out a loan over a shorter time. The survey of 4,519, including 605 blacks, was analyzed by Catherine Montalto, a consumer specialist at Ohio State University for the Consumer Federation of America. The survey was conducted between May and December of 2004.

Where is the best place to go to get private student loans? I, unfortunately, am required to get private student loans to fund the rest of my education. I'm going to do a little bit of research on my own and try to find someone with less fine print and better interest rates, but for any of you that have experience with private loans or maybe even work for a financial aid center and could help me narrow my search down to a few select places that would be great.
Just graduated from Pitt with a BA in Communication, but working at a call center :/? So I just graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor's degree in Communication. I was all excited because I thought, "Finally, I'll get a well-paying job I like and my life will finally begin!" Ha. Think again. Ever since January, I am stuck back at home living with my mother, and working at the call center for a bank, which I HATE, and am making $20,000 a year. I can barely afford my student loan payments of nearly $600 a month and there is absolutely NO WAY that on my wage there I can also afford a rent/utilities/car payment a.k.a. to live on my own. Not only that (and I'm not saying this to be arrogant, but to simply prove a point about post-secondary education), but my co-workers at the call center are the people I graduated high school with, some of them in the "slower" classes, making the same, or more, than I am! I just went to school for 4 and half years, put myself $65,000 in debt, all for what?? My employment history is good, as was my GPA, yet no one is hiring anyway! So I guess I'd like to hear your thoughts on what I should do. Should I just keep trudging along and applying and applying and applying, or should I perhaps go back to school (I was thinking either nursing or cosmetology)? Even if I get my associate's degree in nursing, or maybe a radiology tech or something of the like, I could find a job in a heartbeat, making probably $40 grand right off the bat, and I could go anywhere in the country. Believe it or not the same holds true for hair stylists. There are a ton of job postings for them as well. I thought about going to cosmetology school when I graduated high school but my parents wouldn't let me. I would plan on moving to a big city and try to get into a nice, upscale salon. So, should I go back to school? I could get a use-able degree, make a decent salary, post pone my student loan payments (and would get only an associate's so I wouldn't be another $60,000 in debt)...or should I stick it out and just stay positive and keep applying? Actually, I am thinking about maybe getting my Associate's to become a Radiology Tech.

Extremely stressed out about student loan repayment...? I am just about to earn my bachelor's degree, and I have almost $100,000 in student loan debt. I took out student loans to pay for living expenses in addition to school. Now, I'm getting ready to enter graduate school, where I will undoubtedly incur even more debt...probably another 100K since it will be anywhere from 4-6 years and I will be paying out of state tuition. By the time I'm done, I'll have around 200k of student loan debt....and I am seriously stressing. I'm going to get my PsyD in clinical psychology, so if I can find a decent job after school I might be okay....but I looked at a loan calculator online and it said that my monthly payments are going to be around $1600/mo. with that much debt...and that's with a 30 year repayment plan!! The national average for the salary for a clinical psychologist is about $75,000, and I will most likely be paid less than that just starting out. I figure if I can get a job that pays $50,000/year I will only be taking in about $3200/mo after taxes and health insurance....and the monthly payment for the student loans is HALF of that! I don't see how I am going to be able to make it.... I really want to get this education so that I can be successful and have a satisfying career, but this is insane! I am a broke college student working in a call center, so I barely have enough money to pay my rent and bills, let alone save for college. Loans are the only way I can pay for school What can I do??? How would you suggest I be more realistic? How would you suggest I be more realistic?
Any good early childhood teacher training center in Singapore? Hi all, My wife wants to take a full-time course in early childhood education in Singapore. She is thinking of getting a diploma in early childhood education. We have gone thru the S'pore MOE website and called all the training centers listed there, but we need feedback from people that have gone thru this before. Any of you have gone thru this kind of program before? If yes, can pls recommend a good school/training center? And also, do you happen to know which bank to get an educational loan with the best package (lowest interest, flexible payment, etc)? Thanks a million in advanced :)
How much student loan debt is too much? I really want to go to the New School but it will cost me ~22,000k/year (if my financial aid stays the same) with all of the student loans I would need to take out. This would leave me with 88k in debt by the end. I know its a good education and paying that much is "good" for being in a school in the center of the city, but I want to know, is this too much to handle? Is it worth it? Will this make it almost impossible to afford grad school?

I am turning 25. too late for a college education experience? I ran into some highschool friends and realized that I have been working in a call center full time since high school thinking I was mr. big shot and it dawned on me that these people are graduating pretigious universities with amaxing degrees. Can I get loans to pay for room and board and tuition to get back in college immediately in the fall? Where do I start? Help? Mid mid life crisis.
How can I get student loans if my school isn't recognized by the department of education? I'm currently studying at a major European conservatory of music. The tuition itself is almost nothing, compared to US schools. But the living expenses in this city are very high. I need to find some sort of way to get loan money.. or scholarship money. It is a bit frustrating when there seems to be tons of money for students that want to come and "study" in Europe like it's some vacation. I'm here and I'm actually at one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. I can't believe the US doesn't recognize it but it recognizes some of the beauty schools or something like that in this city. But, I've already checked my student aid center here and there is no way the US government will give me money, and also not from my school abroad. I find it so hard to believe that there is no way for me to get money to help me study here... when there is so much money for these "study abroad" programs that are really just vacations for students. I'm not in a study abroad program, but I'm actually in the school' bachelor program.
What do you think of my approach to solving the education crisis? The U.S. education system should be federally owned under one administration that has one branch in every state. The federal administration should be led by 3 appointed individuals by the president. Every state branch should have one representative which will go to the annual summit and ask for whatever their state needs (ex. Funding). The 3 appointed leaders should approve each petition unanimously. •Families should have to pay $100 a month per child if they attend a public school. Parents earning under $15,000 should be covered by a voucher. •Only legal U.S. citizens, residents, or those with student visas should be allowed to attend public school. •40 federally funded colleges/universities should be built in the next 20 years. These schools should have advanced technology, best research centers, medical schools, law schools, and hands on training etc with the best professors possible. Any student is eligible to receive a loan of $10,000 which will cover all of their college education. •An incentive program should be created where after having received a college a degree, depending on the level of their degree; each alumni of a federal school can receive a tax rebate for the first 5 years of their employed career. •At the local level there should be afterschool workshops set up where students of any college/university, government or not, can work by helping high school students with tutoring and mentoring. A college student studying math can work there by teaching math. These tutors/mentorers will receive a monthly government stipend of $400. At home parents need to encourage and help their children attain good habits like playing video games instead of homework.etc. and whats your political party? The federal administration should make the requirements to get into each school...depending on the level of difficulty of the school, the students past grades, high school diploma...
Were you aware of the education gap in politics? I had a person on here claim that republicans are 35% more likely to have a 4 year degree than democrats, which is of course patently false. When I challenged him to produce the study, he of course could not. But social progressives, on the other hand, can site multiple studies that prove that they posses far more education than republicans. In fact, EVERY demographic study on the matter over the last 40 years show that progressives are more educated. the Pew research center has the most recent data putting Social Progressives with at least some college education at 75% With Social Conservatives showing up at 54%. High school dropout rates among Social Conservatives are 3 times higher than Social Progressives. This is why you have people like ann coulter saying that teachers are "worthless" (she has actually said this repeatedly), and dropout rush limbaugh saying that colleges are "institutions controlled by the left, and not to be trusted." This is also why republican politicians target education funding first and foremost for their cuts, and why they are trying right now to eliminate Pell Grants and government backed student loans.
Will a hospital help to pay for your nursing education and degree if so How? My daughter is interested in becoming a nurse. Will hospitals pay or help to pay for her education if she makes a commitment to work for them for so many years after graduating? If so, when and how do you approach a hospital about doing this? Do they pay the total tuition, or just the amount in outstanding loans? I really don't know the process, but would love for my daughter to get some help with her tuition. She is a junior in HS now, and will be going the the VoTech center her Senior year to get a CNA certificate. Thanks
Is there help for a displaced homemaker WITH a college degree and computer skills? I have "only" been out of the paid work force for the last 5 or 6 years if you count "substitute teacher" as a full-time job back in 2003 which it never is. I'm in a situation now where if I don't get a paid job soon I will wind up on the streets or forever dependent on the Battered Womens' Shelters. I have my Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, type 80 wpm, have updated "office" computer skills coming out my ears, but find when every place I send the resume looks at how long ago my year and a half at a call center and a year as a Benefit Authorizer were, I get passed over and told nothing. Even temporary agencies like Manpower and Kelly - which I first signed on with in 1998 and 1994, respectively - can't find me temporary office or light industrial work of more than one day here and there. Jobs requiring a degree these days are also underhandedly off-the-record requiring recent verifiable work experience and saying that you have to have paid work history within the last five years. That is clearly discriminatory against recent-housewives but at this point my only hope of ever supporting myself would be to file a lawsuit against one of those companies and live off the winnings! I tried to re-enroll at the same university where I got my bachelor's, in a Biotechnology program, but have no way whatsoever to pay tuition again. I can't get loans because the original ones have gone into default while I was an unemployable housewife. (He wasn't making enough money to support both of us let alone pay either of our college debt) Also I have had one year of Law school and I do know enough to know that employers discriminating because of a Bankruptcy and other personal credit problems is illegal under California labor law. So what am I supposed to do to deal with all of this while I wind up on the streets or in a shelter trying to study for Biotech without being able to pay the tuition let alone buy books? All I am is a displaced homemaker and I find myself shlepped in with people who either have no education, no skills, drug or alcohol addictions, or criminal records, none of which I deserve to be lumped in with!
A relative of mine (UK) wants to get off benefits and get in to work/education after a tough few years...? My neice is 20 years old, left school early and got in to quite a bit of mischeif; drugs, alcohol, "the wrong crowd" so to speak. She is now on the straight and narrow and desperately trying to get her life back in order and do something with her life. I've said things to her like "go to college" and "look for a job" but in reality, she is clueless and I am clueless as to what advice to give her and what she is entitled to. She left school with no GCSE's and has no qualifications whatsoever and no work experience. She lives with her partner (who is on long term sickness benefit, I think) and she claims jobseekers benefit. She wants to get out and work but finding a job for her is difficult because of the fact she has no qualifications or experience). She told the job centre that she had found a job she was thinking of applying to that she stood a chance of getting but it was only part time so they told her that her benefit would be stopped, rendering her worse off than she would be on benefits! Before her life took a turn for the worse she had aspirations of getting in to podietary and this is still something she enjoys doing, she looks after her Grandmother's feet and it is still something she would love to get in to. However, it's my understanding that to get in to that she would need GCSE science and she would need to carry out an access to higher learning course at college before attempting to enroll on to a university course. The problem with this, of course, is that she would not be able to afford to live while she was at college (of course, when she got to university she would get her student loan but she has a few years before she gets there getting her GCSE and doing an access course!). She would love to get in to the line of work of care...or something care related, looking after people and I would just like to know what options she has open to her that are viable (ie means she wont have to starve and be unable to pay her rent) to further her education/career prospects. She feels like she is stuck in a rut and I don't know what to advise her or where I can take her for advice. Some additional info; -she is in the north east of England.
Are there any loans I can get that anyone knows of? I had wrote on here before about loans, and people answered but not what Im looking for, for one I am not in collage and for 2 I can't get a job because I don't have any work experience enough to work anywhere else I been applying for jobs like you wouldn't believe, but I don't get them because I don't have the work experience to get the job I can't do volunteer work because it takes gas money with out a job I can't get gas money, or a babysitter to do volunteer work, so I am aware of earning the money first but that's impossible if they won't hire me, for 3 my credit history is bad and I know they won't give me a personal loan, I can't get a student loan I have tryed but because the CNA classes are NOT done by any collage because they are only 6 months classes I can't get a student, loan because you have to have a school code to get a student government grant but there are NO schools that do the classes only nursing homes, and education centers they do not have a school code that's just how that works, so that answers some of your questions but I am asking if there is any real loans for mothers who don't have anything for me to go to schools I need a loan or something of that sort that I can get then pay back in a 6 month period after I get a job being a CNA is there any?
FALSE army orders?..................? this is about a male PFC and a female SGT the PFC is deploying, while the SGT will not bcz is pregnant. The deployment orders of the PFC arrived late bcz of a technical error with the name. so the PFC asked the SGT if she could find him his orders bcz he needed to send them to postpone the payments of school loans. after she gave him the orders, he went to the education center @ the base to send a fax to the lenders. when he was there, she called him and asked him for a copy of his orders. he made the copy and sent his fax. he gave her the copy. then, the next day he went back to the army education center to solve a problem, and found her sending a fax with her "orders" to postpone her loans payments! what a jerk! is this legal? I know it is not my business, but still it isn't fair! how the lenders can VERIFY the papers? Or the just assume the papers are real? "they just assume..."*** can you explain me how they can know? do they have like a database or something?

How to arrange money for my college fees? Hi i am a student from india doing my 3rd year BE. my college fees is about 1.28L per year and i have taken a education loan for about 1.00L per year based on the salary of my mother. Every year before taking the loan i have to pay a simple interest of about 12% per annum for the amount taken plus the Rs 28000/- the difference amount. Till now there was no problem as i arranged for the interest by doing a part time job at my dad's workshop and my mother arranged for the fees. ( Dad and mom have separated) but now my mom suddenly says that she cannot pay the fees and is least bothered about my career. What shall i do now, i cannot waste a year to arrange for the fees as it just one ahead to complete my course and i do not want any bad remarks on the mark sheet. is it better to go for a call centre job in the night and cope up with studies ( earnings in my dad's workshop is about 20000 per year only) and if so will a 3rd year BE guy preffered in a call centre. Suggestions are muchappreciatedd
Questions for military wives/husbands who have gotten their degree while their spouse was active? Just want to say thank you in advance. I know this is long but I have lots of questions. My husbands being deployed soon. I'm going to be moving back home and living with his parents so I can get help with our newborn. The baby will be born and then a month later he deploys. So I really want to be around family and he wants me down there. Now. I need to go to school so I can get a decent job. I really want to become a nurse. However, that schooling is two years long. So I've decided to wait until he comes back so I don't have to stop halfway through. Then I was looking into becoming an LPN...that schooling is a year long. So I'd have to stay down in FL for a few extra months. I don't really want to do that as my husband will be spending those months alone up in WA. I don't want to leave him up there alone. Especially sine he will just be getting back from deployment. He says he wouldn't mind, but this is our first deployment. So I know his feelings about that may change. So...I figured I'd go to school to become a phlebotomist (three months long) and just work while he is deployed so we can save more money. Then when he gets back go to school to become an LPN. Which will be a nice pay raise...then go to school to become an RN. I realize that this will take longer but I'd really like to become an LPN and get experience before I become an RN. My husbands mother stays at home and she said that she would love to watch the baby while I attend school or work. Which makes me feel good because I don't have to leave my child with some stranger. I can't take online classes because I need the classroom interaction. It's just how I am able to learn. OK. Now for my questions...there are a lot of them so if you can't answer all of them I completely understand. Can you get your degree even though your family is moving around so much? What are the day-cares like on base for when I return to WA? Does this plan make sense to you? Is it possible? Are there any kind of programs for military wives who are interested in nursing? I know they have one for wives who want to become teachers. Are there any specific loans or grants for military wives? I've googled it and a bunch of spam popped up... My husband says his GI Bill can cover some of my schooling. Is this true? Is this an appropriate topic to talk to the education center about? Or is the education center just for active duty persons? Are civilians allowed to draw blood in military hospitals or are all those people active duty military?

Why does the apartment complex I'm applying for say they can't accept full time students ? I've been working at my current job since December 2008 as a full time worker..I became a student at a college with a nationwide campus given at the Military education center last March..(There version of full time is 2 classes)..There are no dorms offered or anything, and my college is pretty much for adult education at night time..(I'm 19)..The apartment complex I'm looking at says I can't be a full time student...Since I've been in school I have never dropped below 40 hours at work..I'm afraid I might not get the apartment because when she sees my student loans ($1800.00 total) on my report they might deny me..is there a way to get around this ?
Anyone Sponosor My Education? Active duty United States Marine with six months to graduating with a Masters, and looking at following on with a PHD in Human Services. I absolutely cannot afford the burden of taking on more loans for post graduate work on military pay, and have had absolutely no luck in finding stipends, grants, or scholarships that I qualify for. I am extremely worried about accruing anymore debt even if I should decide to get out of the Marine Corps... the Human Services field and law enforcement in general is not a place you become rich. The "free ride" the military promises through college expenses is a myth. Here are my educational stats: B.S. GPA - 3.56 - Criminal Justice Administration M.S. GPA - 3.78 - Administration of Justice & Security I'm not asking for a handout. I'm willing to center my dissertation topic on an area of original research in the human services field on behalf of my sponsor in exchange for sponsorship. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm at the end of my rope.

Im in an impossible situation...nobody can help.? But I dare you to try. Ok so I'm in the army. And I'm broke. I had 2 dollars in both my checking accounts. I started looking into 1 cash advance loans...but I think I accidently gave a scam artist all my bank information. Now I keep receiving phone calls from random cash advance people with strong indian accents, one. Of them keeps calling me and even pretends to work at an education center so he can get more information from me...I call him out everytime and I harrass him until he hangs up lol...but I still need $$$ So on Friday I resentfully asked my parents to borrow $100 bucks until payday...wich is the first. They transfered the money to my account in "bank1" a half hour before the banks closed today...well I realized those indians (no offense) might have access to this money and that I should probably freeze this account ASAP, but withdraw my money first. so I rush over to the bank to find out it was closed...and by the time I got to the other one it closed. Now the easy solution would be to use my debit card right? Wrong. I lost my debit card when I went home for christmas and I got a temporary one. This card expired a week ago and I still haven't received my actual debit card. Also I do not have any checks. I thought about having my money transfered from bank1 to bank2 because I still have the debit card to that bank, only to find out it would take a few days to complete the transfer. I don't want to know how to handle identity theft so please stay off that subject...what I want to know is how do I get my money today because I absolutely NEED it.
What are the best private loans? I'm going to Art Center College of Design in September and I've learned that I will need to pay--AFTER all the financial aid I was given, about 48,000 dollars for tuition for one year (3 terms. 14 weeks=1term).If I go to school through out with no breaks...I can finish Art Center-my bachelors in fine arts in 2 and a half years. However, people often take longer than that to finish their education at Art Center. So let's say..by the time I graduate, I'll be 120,000 dollar in debt to private loans. Financial Aid Office has told me direct Plus Loans for parents OR private loans are my only other options to pay for this. I'm in a low-income family, and my parents cannot borrow that much money. So, I need to go get my private loan now and quick since payment for tuition is due very soon. NOW here's my questions, thanks for reading...what banks or institutions are the best places to get private loans. I'm gonna be borrowing a lot of money so I need a payment plan that can still be manageable since after college, I'm not guaranteed a six figure job or anything. I've thought about waiting for the Spring and applying for CalArts. If anyone knows, is CalArts cheaper or do they provide better financial aid? So there's that two options. Thanks.
Cons, how do you refute this study that shows that liberal arts majors are more likely to be employed? Liberal arts education lends an edge in down economy By Mary Beth Marklein, USA TODAY Updated 1d 21h ago Comments Reprints & Permissions A liberal arts education can provide a leg up in a down economy, a survey suggests. It found that students who had mastered the ability to think critically, reason analytically and write effectively by their senior year were: •Three times less likely to be unemployed than those who hadn't (3.1% vs. 9.6%). Recent graduates A survey of 925 young adults who graduated college during the economic recession, offers a snapshot of how they were faring two years later: 74% were receiving financial help from parents 65% had student loans, owing an average $27,200 46% owed an average $1,880 on credit-card debt 22% had "moved back home" with their parents or relatives 9% had student loan debt averaging more than $50,00 Source: Social Science Research Council •Half as likely to be living with their parents (18% vs. 35%). •Far less likely to have amassed credit card debt (37% vs. 51%). Grades and other factors influence a student's chances of success, too. Graduates of colleges with tougher admissions standards tended to have fewer debts and were less likely to live with their parents, the study found. A report this month by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, which studies the labor-market value of college degrees, found that recent graduates with a bachelor's degree in architecture had the highest average jobless rate (13.9%, vs. 8.9% for all recent college graduates). Education and health care majors had some of the lowest jobless rates. The findings released Wednesday "show something new and different," says lead author Richard Arum, a New York University professor. "Students would do well to appreciate the extent to which their development of general skills, not just majors and institution attended, is related to successful adult transitions." The study is based on surveys of 925 graduates who as college seniors had taken the Collegiate Learning Assessment, a standardized test that aims to measure student learning. In addition to showing greater success financially, high-scorers were more likely to read the news and discuss politics and be living with or married to a romantic partner they met in college. Richard Ekman, president of the Council of Independent Colleges, an association that encourages its member schools to assess student learning, says findings suggest that the Collegiate Learning Assessment is "a pretty good measure of how people are going to do in life." Arum also cautions that the study doesn't speak to whether high-scoring graduates picked up their skills while in college. It follows up on research last year showing that 36% of college graduates showed few or no gains in learning between their freshman and senior years. "While their outcomes are not a product solely of their college experience … it's important for colleges to figure out a way to be more effective," he says. You cons are always talking about how liberal arts majors are worthless. Well, I just came across this article that refutes that.

Do I really need to do an education minor? I am an English major at Centre College in Kentucky; a good school with a good reputation. I am currently planning on completing minors in education and anthropology; I will definitely be able to do the anthro, but if I want to do the education it means forfeiting an opportunity to study abroad in Peru on an archaeology trip. I am merely doing education as a backup; I do not want to have a career as a teacher, but I have been advised that getting an education minor would make me more 'marketable' when it comes to getting jobs after I graduate (and take a few years to work, pay off some loans) before I go to grad school. But is it worth getting the minor instead of going to Peru, or can I just do all the courses except the Practicum course required for the minor...and have an awesome time in Peru. @judy: the practicum (student teaching) is only offered during our short winter term in January, which is when the Peru trip is. Thus, I can't do both. I haven't yet gone in to talk to the head of the department to see if I could do my student teaching some other time and some other place; perhaps through an independent study or a summer program offered by a school in my area. But what it comes down to...I don't really really want to get the minor. I don't want to be a teacher...would not getting the minor and not do the student teaching really be that detrimental? I have experience in teaching and working with kids and students in other capacities...these types of things that could go into cover letters when applying for jobs/internships. I think I'm overthinking it. Another thing...my dad really wants me to get it....so there's pressure from there as well.

Why is Obama giving money to racist La Raza group? Why not the black panthers or the KKK while we are at it. Termite research, walrus rehabilitation and pig manure are among the more than 8,570 of earmarks in the omnibus spending package currently before the Senate. Critics charge the bill is stuffed full of so many pork barrel projects -- $7.7 billion worth -- that President Barack Obama should veto it. Perhaps the most controversial is a direct earmark for a Hispanic civil-rights group -- the National Council of La Raza -- worth $950,000. The group has been a lighting rod of controversy since it helped organize large protests in 2006 aimed at derailing efforts by conservative congressional Republicans to enforce U.S. immigration laws. La Raza, which opposes raids and other aggressive law enforcement tactics, says that the federal money will go solely to its community action subsidiary, the Raza Development Fund, which it says provides loans for housing, education, and healthcare centers in Hispanic areas, according to information on the group’s website. http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=44660
Is Penn State (main campus) the right university for me? I know this question is a lot of reading, but I'd appreciate it if someone could give me their opinion on my situation, just so I have a better perspective than simply just what I am thinking and what my parents (PSU alumni) are saying. I'm probably going to attend Penn State at the University Park campus next fall and be a part of the Schreyer Honors Program. I intend to major in architectural engineering, which is a five year program to get a BS and is capped at around 100 people every year (I'm not really concerned that I won't get in the program). I'll have to take out loans, probably totalling for all five years around 40k (I'm out of state), but based on my major I don't think this is unreasonable. I know PSU has enough name recognition and opportunities (at least for someone who will probably be only one of a few honors students in this major) that I will be able to get into a good school for my master's degree/graduate studies. And study abroad, which I have always wanted to do, is already worked into the architectural engineering program for students who want that. However, unlike a lot of the people going to Penn State, I don't feel extremely attached to the school (in spite of the fact that my parents, uncle, and aunt are alumni and I will have a cousin who will be a freshman next year too). I'm not big on partying or drinking, although Penn State has a good repuation as a party school. I'm not really excited about going to Penn State, it just seems like my best option for a balance between a school with name recognition and reasonable amount of student loans. I was accepted into Carnegie Mellon University as well. Unlike Penn State, I feel more of a connection with the university. I've visited both campuses, and I can see myself fitting in better with the students at CMU. I work hard, and I feel like this school has a better learning environment for me. The civil engineering program (I'd major in civil engineering with a structural emphasis) at CMU is great, and I like the city of Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, I'd probably need 100k to 120k in loans for four years at CMU. I don't know how I could justify putting myself in that financial situation, even though I'd really like to attend Carnegie Mellon over Penn State. I could also attend Northeastern University with less loans than I would need for Penn State due to merit scholarships. I like Boston and NU, but I don't think I want an education centered around co-ops. Another option for me is Villanova, which would be about 80k in loans. I'd be in the honors program at both Northeastern and Villanova, and I'd major in civil engineering.
can an international student get a loan from a bank in canada? i got accepted to humber college in toronto. i dont want to lay four years of expenses onto my parents. when i was looking for schools, people in canadian education centre told me that you can apply for loans even if you dont get scholarship or something. i was counting on that, until earlier today i came across a website that tells that you are not elligible to apply for a loan unless you are a landed immigrent. and if so, can i be a landed immigrent after my first year? note: i'm above 23 male from Turkey, not from europian union. i know that you can do it in usa as an international if your family has gone through a financial crisis or something. i'm wondering about canada, or can you get in touch with a bank from usa for that ?
income 95K - why do things feel tight? Hi, my spouse and I together make about 95K, which is not that high, but I feel is decent. We together save about 16-17% of our gross in 401K. Our housing cost (mortgage plus escrow combined) is about 15% of our gross. We spend about 600/month (7-8% of gross) on our son's day care. We don't have education loans or car payments. We don't have credit card loans either. We only eat out about once a month. However, for some reason, our budget feels tight. We only have one son and our child care cost feels like a lot. I don't know how others with 2-3 kids in day care do it, especially those in day care centers that cost up to 1200/month. We are starting to look into saving for our child's college, and their K-12 education options (including private schools), and it just doesn't feel feasible. I just want to ask, is this normal for people in this income range? Are things so tight that you feel like you can't have a second child or can't put your only child in private school? Is this why many people have credit card debts or can't save enough for retirement (others are in the same situation but they just finance it though using credit cards or not saving for retirement)? Can't ask this to my co-workers or friends, so thought I'd ask in this anonymous forum. Thank you!

Do you think the Government shot themselves in the foot with training/education? Skills gaps. Too many Arts graduates and not enough plumbers, engineers, electricians and the like. Not enough graduate-level jobs for all these arts graduates resulting in a lot of under-employment. Lack of funding for people to retrain in a useful trade (Job Centre only helps long term unemployed and those who are in work have to rely on the "mercy" of the High Street Banks and their "Career Development Loans"). The result? Lots of skilled jobs which British people can't fill because they aren't sufficiently trained or skilled. Call in the Poles, Czechs and Lithuanians. Lots of British people left on the dole or in low paying, dead end jobs which need to be topped up with Tax Credits (at the expense of the Government). Lots of British people resentful and disaffected with the Government. Labour out at the next election? Philip - very interesting. Reminds me of something I was told by a friend's mother who is a nursing lecturer - she said that they are turning applicants away and there are long waiting lists for places on nursing or midwifery courses. So the Government claiming that we need to import nurses is nonsense. Andy - as a fellow "surplus" Arts graduate (History) I do understand exactly what you mean. I'm on £7 an hour, lol! about to do a PGCE although I know several qualified History teachers working in Callcentres.

Do you agree or disagree that college might be a bad idea unless you plan on being a Dr or Lawyer? I watched a news show last night and it was depressing in some ways. Most all of the people interviewed said that if they had it to do over again they would have gone to a trade school instead of college. The problem most college graduates are having is that they can't get a job in their field of study or any professional field as far as that goes.. One guy had a BS and was working at a call center for 10.00 an hour. His loan debt was 100,000. A college professor interviewed stated that unless a student ranks better than the top 60% of their HS senior class, they should forget about college because studies find that they won't make it all the way through school. My question is this, do you feel that the money spent for a college education now days is worth it? My youngest daughter in taking an IT technical course at the school she attends. She makes excellent grades and can come out of high school as a Network Specialist in the 35,000.00 a year range. We always expected and planned for both girls to go to college. Her teacher told me that the way everything changes so rapidily in this field that she would be sent to classes through her employer. I'm asking this in Seniors because many have been there and done that either with college or trade school. Wonderful answers go to everyone! abuelama....glad you spoke about scolarships. They really helped my oldest daughter when she was going to college. When my dad passed in Oct. we established a scolarship in his name. You better believe that my youngest daughter was in the back of my mind when we did this. If all goes well with contributions we will be able to award the first scholarship in the spring of 2010 which will be when she graduates. Paul N....thanks for the chuckle....I have to work with a Master Degree HS principal that chaps my a** every day. Educated idiot comes to mind. It really gets to me when I see a complete and utter fool that reached their level of being inadaquate at a profession but kept climbing the ladder over better qualified people years ago. The school board just keeps renewing the contract 5 years at a time regardless of negative imput they have been given. I feel so much better now Paul.....thank you. I've wanted to expose this person for what he/she is for a long time.
[Urgent!!!] proof read scholarship essay due tomorrow!! plz help me!!!!!!! best answer 10 points!!? Essay the consumes 1. extracurricular activities 2. educational or professional goals 3. Jobs you have held 4. Community or school service 5. Your leadership roles in school 6. Special home or family situations My goals and life plans have always inspired me to do my best. From increasing my academic’s grades to experiencing and learning new things, I continue to push myself further so that I can always grow as a person. In high school, my primary goals included getting into college. Now that graduation is on the horizon, my professional goal is to design clothing. I remember watching a fashion runway show on television for a full three hours. I was so inspired by the beautifully crafted fashions, that I grabbed a pad of paper and started sketching on the spot! It was at that very moment that I realized my passion for crafting fashions, and even though I could not fully express it at the time, I knew that my destiny was to become a successful clothing designer. During my junior year, I participated in a career preparation program at the non-profit Center for Arts Education. As a participant, I had the opportunity to intern at Bloomingdale’s in the Window Display department. As an intern, I gain experience displaying the spring lines of a variety of designers such as Ralph Lauren, Elie Tahari, Gucci and others. In addition, I worked with Bloomingdale’s window display’s costume designer for the renounced annual Christmas window event. My favorite part of my internship was apprenticing with a costume designer while he created an amazing coutier gown. I was honored to have him trust my design sensibility in allowing me to provide the accessories to complete his design. I was humbled by the immense time and effort that went into creating windows design or designing the holiday windows. In the Spring, I volunteered to be a teacher in the " Puerta de Paz" Evangelist Christian Church. I am currently teaching young children the word of God once every two weeks. This community service has taught me to take leadership and responsibility towards the lessons to be taught and to control the children. I have also volunteer for the health fair in my school this December. I was in charge of the health food section, serving abundance of students healthy beverages and foods. It was my responsibility to show them how to replace certain meals to benefit your body and health. After school, I participate in the Art, Photography and Christian club. I have experienced many exciting events and have learn many captivating information during each club I have participated in. My mother is currently unemployed and now we are depended on Unemployment Benefit. We are also have been depended on the support of welfare and food stamps. My parents are divorced and my father does not support the family financially. For college, I am fully depended on financial aid, scholarships and loans because my mother has no method to pay the cost for college. My long term goals and dreams have been my motivation since I can remember . I have been pushing myself and working my hardest to learn the art of making beautiful clothing for women who not only want to look beautiful but feel beautiful as well. That to me is important as a Fashion Designer, to have that ability like no other career out there. However, I know that it takes knowledge and experience from a successful fashion industry to realize my dream. That is why this scholarship is very important to me, it is not only the help I financially need but it will be the start of what I know in my heart I was meant to do.

Why do you think public schools are free until 12th grade? I think it's because they are institutions of conformity/day care centers. To keep you busy and out of trouble while our parents work to pay off their 10 bills because they weren't fortunate enought to get a nice education to start with. After you're out of high school, poorly educated, and you're 18, schools only want your money. So you take out that loan, and that part time job to pay for school, welcoming you to the looping paradox that is this capitalistic American dream. Everything that happens while this goes on, is your life passing you by. I have nothing against knowledge and educators. Knowledge IS power. But turning your eyes the other way from what's really going on can only take you so far. Pardon my rambling on I'm just tired. What do you think?

Since they're being compared, which association is worse from a presidential standpoint - Ayers or Keating? -Ayers set bombs in the early 70s, actions which Obama has condemned. His condemnation is left out when McCain or Palin talk about his associations. -Ayers has rehabilitated his image with many in the Chicago community, including Mayor Richard M. Daley. Ayers is now a professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago and has developed a reputation as an advocate for school reform. Which is, according to Ben LaBolt, an Obama campaign spokesman, how the two met. -Ayers helped Chicago win nearly $50 million for Chicago schools as part of a national school reform project, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. -In March 1995, Obama was named chair of the six-member Chicago Annenberg Challenge board that distributed the grants. A New York Times review of archives of the Chicago Annenberg project found that the two attended six board meetings together. -Later that year, the Ayers’ hosted a coffee at which Illinois State Sen. Alice Palmer, who planned to run for Congress, introduced Obama to some of her long-time supporters as her chosen successor. The event was not a fundraiser. CONTRAST WITH: -Keating and McCain, both former Navy fliers, met at a Navy League dinner in 1981, and became friends and mutual supporters. -Keating, a prominent Arizona banker, organized fundraisers for McCain's campaigns for the House and later the Senate, and donated $112,000 to McCain by 1987. He also hosted the McCain family at least nine times at his lavish vacation home in Cat Cay, Bahamas. -On two occasions in 1987, he and fellow Sens. Dennis DeConcini of Arizona, Alan Cranston of California, John Glenn of Ohio and – in the second meeting – Don Riegle of Michigan, (all Democrats aside from McCain), met with federal regulators at Keating's request and asked them to back off Lincoln Savings and Loan, a subsidiary of Keating's American Continental Corp. -During the second meeting, the regulators told the senators they suspected Lincoln of criminal misconduct, and intended to refer the matter to the Department of Justice. That took the senators aback – McCain, in particular, did nothing more on the matter after the regulators mentioned criminality, a Senate investigation later found. -The government seized the failing institution in 1989. Different players in the drama have different interpretations of whether the senators' involvement delayed the investigation. -But it is clear that indeed McCain "intervened on behalf of Charles Keating with federal regulators tasked with preventing banking fraud." -McCain had intervened on Keating's behalf before. Having "heard frequently from Charlie" about a proposed savings-and-loan regulation called the "direct investment rule," Mcain tried to fight the regulation or get an exemption for Lincoln, he wrote in his book. -So yes, McCain also "championed legislation to delay regulation of the savings and loan industry," -The Senate Ethics Committee, after a 14-month investigation into the Keating Five, largely exonerated McCain, citing him only for "poor judgment." -He did not reimburse Keating for $13,433 worth of airfare to Keating's home in the Bahamas until the trips were exposed years later by reporters in Arizona. And reporters also discovered that McCain's wife and her father had invested $359,100 in a shopping center with Keating in 1986. -The government seizure of Lincoln cost taxpayers more than $2 billion, a sum that many would find "incredible," as the Obama campaign claimed. So neither Senator really broke the law, but both exercised poor judgement. Which do you think is worse? Working with a respected professor to allocate education funds, who happens to have a shady radical past? Or being the very definition of a Washington insider, trading lavish vacations and large sums of campaign funds to help your banking buddies get around regulations? http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/776/ http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/777/ Regulator - And Obama never did anything wrong in the first place. It's not his dealings with Ayers that are under examination, it's Ayers' past that somehow is supposed to reflect poorly on Obama. And I AM trying to focus on the issues. I think that what these incidents say about both men is a serious issue. I think McCain's attempts to get his friends around regulations should be thouroughly examined, considering what caused our current economic crisis. EVERYONE: I'm not asking whether Ayers or Keating is a worse person, I'm asking which of the actions of our presidential candidates in association with each of those people is worse.

Handled himself with enormous courage, dignity, grace, determination, and leadership in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 hijackings and anthrax attacks. He almost single-handedly held this country together during those searing days: Just three days after the attacks, in his address at the National Cathedral, the President reassured the nation when he said: "War has been waged against us by stealth and deceit and murder. This nation is peaceful, but fierce when stirred to anger. This conflict was begun on the timing and terms of others. It will end in a way, and at an hour, of our choosing." On Friday, September 14, 2001, President Bush visited Ground Zero. Standing on a crushed and burned fire engine atop the smoldering pile at Ground Zero, he put his arm around a retired firefighter who had volunteered to help, and began speaking to the crowd. Rescue workers shouted that they could not hear him. Someone handed him a small American flag and bullhorn. The President spontaneously shouted: "I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon." The crowd roared with cheers and chants of "USA! USA! USA!" Then he raised that American flag and rallied a nation. Education & Employment Training 1. Signed the No Child Left Behind Act, delivering the most dramatic education reforms in a generation (challenging the soft bigotry of low expectations). The very liberal California Teachers union is currently running radio ads against the accountability provisions of this Act. 2. Announced "Jobs for the 21st Century," a comprehensive plan to better prepare workers for jobs in the new millennium by strengthening post-secondary education and job training, and by improving high school education. 3. Is working to provide vouchers to low-income students in persistently failing schools to help with costs of attending private schools. (Blocked in the Senate.) 4. Requires annual reading and math tests in grades three through eight. 5. Requires states to participate in the National Assessment of Education Progress, or an equivalent program, to establish a national benchmark for academic performance. 6. Requires school-by-school accountability report cards. 7. Established a $2.4 billion fund to help states implement teacher accountability systems. 8. Increased funding for the Troops-to-Teachers program, which recruits former military personnel to become teachers. Environment & Energy 1. Killed the Kyoto Global Warming Treaty. 2. Submitted a comprehensive Energy Plan (awaits Congressional action). The plan works to develop cleaner technology, produce more natural gas here at home, make America less dependent on foreign sources of energy, improve national grid, etc. 3. Established a $10 million grant program to promote private conservation initiatives. 4. Significantly eased field-testing controls of genetically engineered crops. 5. Changed parts of the Forestry Management Act to allow necessary cleanup of the national forests in order to reduce fire danger. 6. Part of national forests cleanup: Restricted judicial challenges (based on the Endangered Species Act and other challenges), and removed the need for an Environmental Impact Statement before removing fuels/logging to reduce fire danger. 7. Killed Clinton's CO2 rules that were choking off all of the electricity surplus to California. 8. Provided matching grants for state programs that help private landowners protect rare species. Defense & Foreign Policy 1. Successfully executed two wars in the aftermath of 9/11/01: Afghanistan and Iraq. 50 million people who had lived under tyrannical regimes now live in freedom. 2. Saddam Hussein is now in prison. His two murderous sons are dead. All but a handful of the regime's senior members were killed or captured. 3. Leader by leader and member by member, al Maida is being hunted down in dozens of countries around the world. Of the senior al Qaeda leaders, operational managers, and key facilitators the U.S. Government has been tracking, nearly two-thirds have been taken into custody or killed. The detentions or deaths of senior al Qaeda leaders, including Khalid Shaykh Muhammad, the mastermind of 9/11, and Muhammad Atef, Osama bin Laden's second-in-command until his death in late 2001, have been important in the War on Terror. 4. Disarmed Libya of its chemical, nuclear and biological WMD's without bribes or bloodshed. 5. Continues to execute the War On Terror, getting worldwide cooperation to track funds/terrorists. Has cut off much of the terrorists' funding, and captured or killed many key leaders of the al Qaeda network. 6. Initiated a comprehensive review of our military, which was completed just prior to 9/11/01, and which accurately reported that ASYMMETRICAL WARFARE capabilities were critical in the 21st Century. 7. Killed the old US/Soviet Union ABM Treaty that was preventing the U.S. from deploying our ABM defenses. 8. Has been one of the strongest, if not THE strongest friend Israel has ever hand in the U.S. presidency. 9. Part of the coalition for an Israeli/Palestinian "Roadmap to Peace," along with Great Britain, Russia and the EU. 10. Pushed through THREE raises for our military. Increased military pay by more than $1 billion a year. 11. Signed the LARGEST nuclear arms reduction in world history with Russia. 12. Started withdrawing our troops from Bosnia, and has announced withdrawal of our troops from Germany and the Korean DMZ. 13. Prohibited putting U.S. troops under U.N. command. 14. Paid back UN dues only in return for reforms and reduction of U.S. share of the costs. 15. Earmarked at least 20 percent of the Defense procurement budget for next-generation weaponry. 16. Increased defense research and development spending by at least $20 billion from fiscal 2002 to 2006. 17. Ordered a comprehensive review of military weapons and strategy. 18. Ordered a review of overseas deployments. 19. Ordered renovation of military housing. The military has already upgraded about 10 percent of its inventory and expects to modernize 76,000 additional homes this year. 20. Is working to tighten restrictions on military-technology exports. 21. Brought back our EP-3 intel plane and crew from China without any bribes or bloodshed. Globalization & Internationalism 1. Challenged the United Nations to live up to their responsibilities and not become another League of Nations (in other words, showed the UN to be completely irrelevant). 2. Killed U.S. involvement in the International Criminal Court. 3. Told the United Nations we weren't interested in their plans for gun control (i.e., the International Ban on Small Arms Trafficking Treaty).* 4. The only President since the founding of the UN to essentially tell that organization it is irrelevant. He said: "The conduct of the Iraqi regime is a threat to the authority of the United Nations, and a threat to peace. Iraq has answered a decade of UN demands with a decade of defiance. All the world now faces a test, and the United Nations a difficult and defining moment. Are Security Council resolutions to be honored and enforced, or cast aside without consequence? Will the United Nations serve the purpose of its founding, or will it be irrelevant?" We all know the outcome and the answer. 5. Told the Congress and the world, "America will never seek a permission slip to defend the security of our country." Government Reform 1. Improved government efficiency by putting hundreds of thousands of jobs put up for bid. This weakens public-sector unions and cuts undeserved pay raises. 2. Initiated review of all federal agencies with the goal of eliminating federal jobs (completed September 2003) in an effort to reduce the size of the federal government while increasing private sector jobs. 3. Led the most extensive reorganization the Federal bureaucracy in over 50 years: After 9/11, condensed 20+ overlapping agencies and their intelligence sectors into one agency, the Department of Homeland Security.* 4. Ordered each agency to draft a five-year plan to restructure itself, with fewer managers. 5. Converted federal service contracts to performance-based contracts wherever possible so that the contractor has measurable performance goals. Health 1. Strengthen the National Health Service Corps to put more physicians in the neediest areas, and make its scholarship funds tax-free. 2. Double the research budget of the National Institutes of Health. 3. Signed Medicare Reform, which includes: A 10-year privatization option. Prescription drug benefits: Prior to this reform, Medicare paid for extended hospital stays for ulcer surgery, for example, at a cost of about $28,000 per patient. Yet Medicare would not pay for the drugs that eliminate the cause of most ulcers, drugs that cost about $500 a year. Now, drug coverage under Medicare will allow seniors to replace more expensive surgeries and hospitalizations with less expensive prescription medicine. More health care choices: As President Bush stated, "…when seniors have the ability to make choices, health care plans within Medicare will have to compete for their business by offering higher quality service [at lower cost]. For the seniors of America, more choices and more control will mean better health care. These are the kinds of health care options we give to the members of Congress and federal employees. What's good for members of Congress is also good for seniors. New Health Savings Accounts: Effective January 1, 2004, Americans can set aside up to $4,500 every year, tax free, to save for medical expenses. Depending on your tax bracket, that means you'll save between 10 to 35 percent on any costs covered by money in your account. Every year, the money not spent would stay in the account and gain interest tax-free, just like an IRA. These accounts will be good for small business owners, and employees. More businesses can focus on covering workers for major medical problems, such as hospitalization for an injury or illness. At the same time, employees and their families will use these accounts to cover doctors visits, or lab tests, or other smaller costs. Some employers will contribute to employee health accounts. This will help more American families get the health care they need at the price they can afford. Homeland Security, Border Enforcement & Immigration 1. *See Government Reform above. Under President Bush's leadership, America has made an unprecedented commitment to homeland security. 2. Has CONSTRUCTION in process on the first 10 ABM silos in Alaska so that America will have a defense against North Korean nukes. Has ordered national and theater ballistic missile defenses to be deployed by 2004. 3. Announced a 9.7% increase in government-wide homeland security funding in his FY 2005 budget, nearly tripling the FY 2001 levels (excluding the Department of Defense and Project BioShield). 4. Before DHS was created, there were inspectors from three different agencies of the Federal Government and Border Patrol officers protecting our borders. Through DHS, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) now consolidates all border activities into a single agency to create "one face at the border." This not only better secures the borders of the United States, but it also eliminates many of the inefficiencies that occurred under the old system. With over 18,000 CBP inspectors and 11,000 Border Patrol agents, CBP has 29,000 uniformed officers on our borders. 5. The Border Patrol is continuing installation of monitoring devices along the borders to detect illegal activity. 6. Launched Operation Tarmac to investigate businesses and workers in the secure areas of domestic airports and ensure immigration law compliance. Since 9/11, DHS has audited 3,640 businesses, examined 259,037 employee records, arrested 1,030 unauthorized workers, and participated in the criminal indictment of 774 individuals. 7. Since September 11, 2001, the Coast Guard has conducted more than 124,000 port security patrols, 13,000 air patrols, boarded more than 92,000 vessels, interdicted over 14,000 individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally, and created and maintained more than 90 Maritime Security Zones. 8. Announced the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), an internet-based system that is improving America's ability to track and monitor foreign students and exchange visitors. Over 870,000 students are registered in SEVIS. Of 285 completed field investigations, 71 aliens were arrested. 9. This week, the US-VISIT program began to digitally collect biometric identifiers to record the entry and exit of aliens who travel into the U.S on a visa. Together with the standard information, this new program will confirm compliance with visa and immigration policies. 10. Eliminated INS bureaucratic redundancies and lack of accountability. 11. Split the Immigration and Naturalization Service into two agencies: one to protect the border and interior, the other to deal with naturalization. 12. Signed the workplace verification bill to prevent hiring of illegal aliens. 13. Established a six-month deadline for processing immigration applications. 14. Information regarding nearly 100% of all containerized cargo is carefully screened by DHS before it arrives in the United States. Higher risk shipments are physically inspected for terrorist weapons and contraband prior to being released from the port of entry. Advanced technologies are being deployed to identify warning signs of chemical, biological, or radiological attacks. Since September 11, 2001, hundreds of thousands of first responders across America have been trained to recognize and respond to the effects of a WMD attack. Judiciary & Tort Reform 1. Is urging federal liability reform to eliminate frivolous lawsuits. 2. Killed the liberal ABA's unconstitutional role in vetting federal judges. The Senate is supposed to advise and consent, not the ABA. 3. Is nominating strong, conservative judges to the judiciary. 4. Supports class action reform bill which limits lawyer fees so that more settlement money goes to victims. Politics 1. His leadership resulted in Republican gains in the House and Senate, solidifying Republican control of both houses of Congress and the presidency. 2. Signed an EO enforcing the Supreme Court's Beck decision regarding union dues being used for political campaigns against individual's wishes. Second Amendment 1. Ordered Attorney General Ashcroft to formally notify the Supreme Court that the OFFICIAL U.S. government position on the 2nd Amendment is that it supports INDIVIDUAL rights to own firearms, and is NOT a Leftist-imagined "collective" right. 2. Signed TWO bills into law that arm our pilots with handguns in the cockpit. 3. Currently pushing for full immunity from lawsuits for our national gun manufacturers. 4. *See Globalization & Internationalism. Traditional Values, Compassion & Volunteerism 1. Endorses and promotes "The Responsibility Era." President Bush often speaks of the necessity of personal responsibility and civic volunteerism. He said, "In a compassionate society, people respect one another and take responsibility for the decisions they make in life. My hope is to change the culture from one that has said, if it feels good, do it; if you've got a problem, blame somebody else — to one in which every single American understands that he or she is responsible for the decisions that you make; you're responsible for loving your children with all your heart and all your soul; you're responsible for being involved with the quality of the education of your children; you're responsible for making sure the community in which you live is safe; you're responsible for loving your neighbor, just like you would like to be loved yourself." 2. Started the USA Freedom Corps, the most comprehensive clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities ever offered. For the first time in history, Americans can enter geographic information about where they want to get involved, such as state or zip code, as well as areas of interest ranging from education to the environment, and they can access volunteer opportunities offered by more than 50,000 organizations across the country and around the world. 3. Established the The White House Office and the Centers for the Faith-Based and Community Initiative — located in seven Federal agencies. The faith-based initiative supports the essential work of these important organizations. The goal is to make sure that grassroots leaders can compete on an equal footing for federal dollars, receive greater private support, and face fewer bureaucratic barriers. Work focuses on at-risk youth, ex-offenders, the homeless and hungry, substance abusers, those with HIV/AIDS, and welfare-to-work families. 4. The White House released a guidebook fully describing the Administration's belief that faith-based groups have a Constitutionally-protected right to maintain their religious identity through hiring — even when Federal funds are involved. 5. Issued an EO implementing the Supreme Court's Olmstead ruling, which requires moving disabled people from institutions to community-based facilities when possible. 6. Increased funding for low-interest loan programs to help people with disabilities purchase devices to assist them. 7. Revised the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Section 8 rent subsidies to disabled people, permitting them to use up to a year's worth of vouchers to finance down payments on homes. HUD has started pilot programs in 11 states. 8. Committed US funds to purchase medicine for millions of men, women and children now suffering with AIDS in Africa. 9. Heeding the words of our own Declaration of Independence, the president laid out the non-negotiable demands of human dignity for all people everywhere. On January 29, 2002, he said, "No nation owns these aspirations, and no nation is exempt from them. We have no intention of imposing our culture. But America will always stand firm for the non-negotiable demands of human dignity." As stated by the President, they are a virtual manifesto of conservative principles: Equal Justice Freedom of Speech Limited Government Power Private Property Rights Religious Tolerance Respect for Women Rule of Law
Why do libs avoid President Bush's Accomplishments? President Bush's Accomplishments Spotted at Rightnation.us and GOPUSA.com reprinted here for your pleasure. I encourage people who support Bush to learn how effective our President has been, and liberals ought to browse this too. Just remember, the liberal media can't cover up the truth of his accomplishments. The Bush Administration 2001-2004 Abortion & Traditional Values 1. Banned Partial Birth Abortion — by far the most significant roll-back of abortion on demand since Roe v. Wade. 2. Reversed Clinton's move to strike Reagan's anti-abortion Mexico Policy. 3. 3.
Wanting to switch schools...? I am an English Education major currently in CO, looking to move to the midwest. I am very interested in Northeastern Illinois in Chicago and UNI in Northern Iowa. However, my parents disagree. They believe that I belong here where I go to school full time, work part time, and can't afford to live anywhere but at home. Of course, if I moved, I would probably have to spend a year in the dorm before being able to find a place of my own. My parents say that in this economy, I should be grateful for what I have. Switching schools also means instead of my 6,000 a semester loan that I have, it will become 12,000 a semester or more. I realize that it is a lot of money, but I feel that I am suffocating living at home (the cost of living is too high here and I don't make enough part time to afford my own place, even with roomies) and not feeling like I am getting quite the education at my science/agriculture centered collage. My dept is shoved into a basement and the classes are limited. Am I being rediculous by wanting to change or is it truly a bad idea?
What job may I qualify for with these skillls? I have 2 yrs of collections, 5 yrs of cutomer serv exp. how many pple really get all their victims rights? MY NAME IS JENNAH. I WAS RAPED BY MY BIOLOGICAL FATHER, NORMAN, WHEN I WAS 18YRS OLD. I AM NOT GOING INTO DETAILS AS I BELIEVE THEY ARE UNNECESSARY AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE YOU CAN EMAIL ME AT jennah_z@yahoo. com. HE WAS CONVICTED OF 2ND DEGREE SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A MINOR AND INCEST.... I HAVE CALLED THE PRISON HE IS IN 2 TIMES. I WANT TO CONFRONT MY FATHER, TALK TO HIM ABOUT THINGS. IN THE "VICTIMS RIGHTS" I HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO. THE FIRST TIME I CALLED THE PERSON (A WOMAN) I TALKED TO TREATED ME LIKE THE BAD GUY! I FELT AS IF I WAS DOING WRONG TRYING TO GET MEDICAL INFORMATION FOR MY HEALTH. WHEN I ASKED IF I WOULD BE ABLE TO TALK TO MY FATHER SHE TOLD ME IT WOULDN'T BE GOOD FOR ME. HOW DOES SHE KNOW WHAT I NEED? I HAD NEVER MET HER. I WANT CLOSURE. THAT TOTALLY UPSET ME. THEY WERE ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT HIS REHABILITATION. ....WHAT THE HELL? SHOULDN'T THEY BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE VICTIM FIRST? THESE RAPISTS HURT OTHERS, POSSIBLY MAKING THEIR LIFE HELL FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES. MAKING THEM LIVE WITH FEARS, AND NIGHTMARES. I DON'T THINK THEY SHOULD COME FIRST! I THINK THE VICTIM SHOULD. THE SECOND TIME I PHONED THE PRISON I GOT A VOICE MAIL PRESSED SO I PRESSED 0 FOR AN EMERGENCY ,THEY THEN TRANSFERRED ME TO ANOTHER VOICE MAIL. I AGAIN PRESSED 0 (FOR AN EMERGENCY) ONE MORE TIME AND I WAS TRANSFERRED TO A GUARD HE ASKED IF IT WAS IMPORTANT, I SAID YES, HE TOLD ME HE WOULD GET SOMEONE FOR ME IMMEDIATELY. AND I WAITED ON HOLD FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND THEN AGAIN GOT VOICE MAIL. I LEFT A MESSAGE ONCE AGAIN FOR THEM TO CALL ME. THEN I CALLED THE VINE SYSTEM TALKED TO A PERSON AND FOUND OUT HE COMES UP FOR PAROLE IN OCTOBER OF 08. THE VICTIM OFFENDER DIALOG WAS REFERRED TO A BARB IN JANUARY 2007 AND NO ONE EVER CONTACTED ME AFTER THAT. THEY NOW PROMISE THAT I WILL HEAR FROM THEM IN A WEEK OR SO. VICTIMS RIGHTS NEED TO BE IN FORCED AND THEY NEED TO HAVE RESTITUTION NO MATTER WHAT THE CRIME. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO REOPEN RESTITUTION IF A NEW PROBLEM STARTS UP OR SOMETHING HAPPENS BECAUSE OF THE CRIME LATER IN LIFE. BECAUSE THERE WAS NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO ME OR MY BELONGINGS I DON'T GET ANY RESTITUTION. I WILL BE ON MEDICATION ALL OF MY LIFE, I AM DISABLED BECAUSE OF THIS, I HAVE TO SEE DOCTORS, COUNCILORS AND PAY FOR GAS TO GET TO THEM. THIS IS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. I ALSO STRUGGLE RAISING MY ELDEST DAUGHTER BECAUSE OF MY DISORDERS. I GOT INVOLVED IN DRUGS TO MASK MY FEELINGS RIGHT AFTER THIS HAPPENED AND LOST ALL MY CHILDREN. MY TWO BABY'S ALLISSANDRA LEELYNN BORN JUNE 28 LIVED IN MILWAUKEE THE LAST I KNEW(05). SERENITY MARIE BORN 02-07 LIVES IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN (06). I AM NOT ALLOWED TO SEE MY DAUGHTERS. I HAVE BEEN CLEAN FOR 3YEARS NOW. HOW CAN YOU PUT RESTITUTION ON LIVES LIKE THAT? I DID GET MY ELDEST TIFFANY DOB 12-3 BACK AND NOW I HAVE PRIMARY PHYSICAL PLACEMENT OF HER. I COULD TAKE CARE OF MY CHILDREN NOW. BUT ITS TOO LATE. I KNOW THIS IS PARTLY MY FAULT BUT IT IS PARTLY HIS. I CANT HAVE ANYMORE CHILDREN WITHOUT IVF AND THATS 11600. I DON'T HAVE THAT MONEY I AM DISABLED AND MY HUSBAND WORKS IN A FACTORY. INSURANCE DOESN'T COVER IT. I GOT MY TUBES TIED BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO BRING ANOTHER CHILD INTO A WORLD LIKE THIS. NOW I WANT TO SO THEY CAN HELP CHANGE IT BUT IT IS TOO LATE. THIS IS THE LETTER I AM SENDING OUT TO THE PRISON AND WHO EVER WILL LISTEN. MAYBE IF WE ALL GET TOGETHER WE CAN GET THIS FIXED. I DON'T WANT ANOTHER GIRL TO GO THROUGH WHAT I DID. AT THE BOTTOM IS A LIST OF VICTIMS RIGHTS THAT I FOUND ON THE WISCONSIN SEX OFFENDERS LIST. WISH THEY WORKED. To Whom it May Concern; 11/29/07 I am writing in regards to Norman Wilson DOC ID#: 00375807. My name is Jenifer and I am the victim of the crime, and his daughter, that he is currently serving time in Oshkosh Correctional Institution for. There are many different things that I need to say in this letter so that you fully understand the impact this has had and still has on me and my family. But first, I need to request some form of closure in this matter for me so that I am able to finally move on. I have requested this by pone and through the V.I.N.E. (VICTIM )It has been almost 9 years. This is the closure that I need very badly. My father has Hep C and is dieing. Before he dies I need to be able to speak with him so that i can move on. I do not care if it is a phone call, in a visit setting, or however else you could imagine to arrange this meeting. I really need to try to make him understand that he is still my father and I love him but at the same time I hurt and cannot forgive him. I need to tell him how this is effecting my family, my husband and daughter, and myself. I NEED to ask him "why". The answers he gives matters and at the same time doesn't matter to me at all. I just need an answer. I need to be able to ask. I would write him but writing would only give him time to think about his responses and fake emotion. I also don't believe that option will be a good closure to me. I also think he would be able to lie (better if he is or would lie). Hearing him or seeing him will tell me his emotions on the matter. I need to see if I can find at least some form of forgiveness for him so that I can better my life, or realize I have gotten answers and they did not help and then I can move on that way. I NEED this for MY well-being. It in no way can be anymore harmful to me then what is has been without me getting to say and ask what I need to. He has served half his sentence now. I still have only begun mine. I guess to understand what I go through I would like to explain my problems. I sleep about 4 hours a night, if that, still total. I have nightmares almost every night about what happened. I am on medication that allows me to sleep with out as many nightmares and sleep that long. I am afraid of people, I have problems with trust, I am agoraphobic (fear of leaving a safe place). I panic if I cant handle a situation (which can be as simple as,and has been, shopping), or over nothing at all. I have flashbacks-I see him, smell him. breath him. hear him-all as if it was happening again. No matter what else I have tried this still happens. I have been on medications and still take them, I see a councilor and a therapist and have since 1999. I go to support meetings. None of these things gives me the answers I need. I have spoken to my father but never really about what happened, he said he was sorry right after he got into the prision system, other then that it has been a lot of small talk---weather, his job, and his Hep C. The letters have helped me deal a little better with the extreme, horrible, hatred I used to have, now its a more tolerable hate. I just want these things better. I know they will never go away totally. Incest and rape go back in my family as far as I can find (which is only my grandparents as I no longer talk to that side of my family because they believe that my father was with in his rights.) My grandfather started mentioning having sex with me along with my father the next time he came up. I thank the lord that I was able to tell on my father, which was hard, before that happened. I believe this would have happened to everyone in my family if I would not have stopped it including my daughter. It happened to my older step-sisters and some friends. I stopped the rapes before it continued to my little sister or my daughter. Now I need my closure also. I do not care if he sees the prision walls until he is dead or is released tomorrow as long as I have my chance to be better first. Respectfully Jenifer Lyon "It has been said that something that is as small as a flutter of a butterfly's wings can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world." chaos theory If this is true, then you must ask yourself... what can or have you cause(d)? jennah Office of Victim Services and Programs The Wisconsin Department of Corrections has made a commitment to reduce criminal behavior and restore a sense of safety to victims and the community. Is this why the libs hate BUSH? 3. By Executive Order (EO), reversed Clinton's policy of not requiring parental consent for abortions under the Medical Privacy Act. 4. By EO, prohibited federal funds for international family planning groups that provide abortions and related services. 5. Upheld the ban on abortions at military hospitals. 6. Made $33 million available for abstinence education programs in 2004. 7. Supports the Defense of Marriage Act — and a Constitutional amendment saying marriage is between one man and one woman. 8. 7. But America will always stand firm for the non-negotiable demands of human dignity." Banned Partial Birth Abortion — by far the most significant roll-back of abortion on demand since Roe v. Wade. 2. Reversed Clinton's move to strike Reagan's anti-abortion Mexico Policy. 8. Requires schools to have a zero-tolerance policy for classroom disruption (reintroducing discipline into classrooms). 11. Passed tough new laws to hold corporate criminals to account as a result of corporate scandals. 10. Reduced taxes on dividends and capital gains. 11. Signed trade promotion authority. 12. Reduced and is working to ultimately eliminate the estate tax for family farms and ranches. 13. Fight Europe's ban on importing biotech crops from the United States. 14. Make permanent the $5,000 adoption tax credit and provide $1 billion over five years to increase the credit to $10,000. 19. Grant a complete tax exemption for prepaid or college tuition savings plans. 20. Reduced H1B visas from a high of 195,000 per year to 66,000 per year. Character & Conduct as President 1. Changed the tone in the White House, restoring HONOR and DIGNITY to the presidency. 2. Has reintroduced the mention of God and faith into public discourse. 3. 3. Told the United Nations we weren't interested in their plans for gun control (i.e., the International Ban on Small Arms Trafficking Treaty). 4. 3. Led the most extensive reorganization the Federal bureaucracy in over 50 years: After 9/11, condensed 20+ overlapping agencies and their intelligence sectors into one agency, the Department of Homeland Security. 4. Ordered each agency to draft a five-year plan to restructure itself, with fewer managers. 5. Converted federal service contracts to performance-based contracts wherever possible so that the contractor has measurable performance goals. Health< 1. 2. Are you happy with the stimulus? Here are some interesting details on the "stimulus" package. If you would not mind forwarding this along to your friends, family, and contacts, it would be greatly appreciated. The more info Americans have on this bill, the only thing stimulated will be anger and outrage, because none of this stimulates the economy or creates Jobs. * The interest payments alone on the stimulus would cost $350 billion over the next ten years, which means the next generation will have to pay the bills. * The bill contains nothing in it that would stimulate the economy, but its only a down-payment on big government spending. In reality, it's a welfare proposal. Wasteful Spending Provisions * $2 billion earmark to re-start FutureGen, a near-zero emissions coal power plant in Illinois that the Dept. of Energy defunded last year because the project was inefficient * $650 million for the digital television (DTV) converter box coupon program * $88 million for the Coast Guard to design a new polar icebreaker (arctic ship) * $448 million for constructing the Dept. of Homeland Security headquarters * $248 million for furniture at the new Dept. of Homeland Security headquarters * $600 million to buy hybrid vehicles for federal employees * $400 million for the CDC to screen and prevent STD's * $1.4 billion for a rural waste disposal programs * $125 million for the Washington , D.C. sewer system * $150 million for Smithsonian museum facilities * $1 billion for the 2010 Census, which has a projected cost overrun of $3 billion * $75 million for "smoking cessation activities" * $200 million for public computer centers at community colleges * $75 million for salaries of employees at the FBI * $25 million for tribal alcohol and substance abuse reduction * $500 million for flood reduction projects on the Mississippi River * $10 million to inspect canals in urban areas * $6 billion to turn federal buildings into "green" buildings * $500 million for state and local fire stations * $650 million for wildland fire management on Forest Service lands * $1.2 billion for "youth activities," including youth summer job programs * $88 million for renovating the headquarters of the Public Health Service * $412 million for CDC buildings and property * $500 million for building and repairing NIH facilities in Bethesda, MD * $160 million for "paid volunteers" at the Corporation for National and Community Service * $5.5 million for "energy efficiency initiatives" at the VA " National Cemetery Administration" * $60 million for Arlington National Cemetery * $850 million for Amtrak * $100 million for reducing the hazard of lead-based paint * $75M to construct a new "security training" facility for State Dept Security officers when they can be trained at existing facilities of other agencies. * $110 million to the Farm Service Agency to upgrade computer systems * $200 million in funding for the lease of alternative energy vehicles for use on military installations. * $275 million for "watershed and flood prevention operations" * Eliminates fees on loans from the Small Business Administration, thus pushing private capital toward unproductive businesses and away from productive businesses. * Increases the definition of "youth" for certain summer job programs from age 21 to age 24. * $160 million to the Job Corps program at the Dept. of Labor, but not for job programs - rather, to construct, alter or repair buildings. * Requires a government study on the impact of minimum wage laws on the Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa . * A $246 million tax break for Hollywood movie producers to buy motion picture film. * $79 billion State Fiscal Stabilization (slush) Fund to bailout the States by providing billions of dollars for "education" costs of any kind. * $47.843 billion is appropriated for a variety of energy programs that are primarily focused on renewable energy development and energy conservation/efficiency. Not one dollar is appropriated to make fossil fuels more affordable in the near future. More than $6 billion of these funds go to environmental clean ups. * Increases eligibility for "weatherization" assistance to households 200 percent above the poverty level. * The "Making Work Pay" credit of $500 to every individual making less than $75,000 (or $1000 to couples making $150,000 or less) would pay people whether they are productive or not - akin to welfare. * The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP- food stamps) would temporarily suspend the 3-month limit for non-working adults to receive SNAP benefits, thus giving incentives not to find a job. * Installs government as the creator of broadband deployment regardless of whether the speci

He was referring to U.S. English, the nation's oldest, largest citizens' action group dedicated to preserving the unifying role of the English language in the United States. "The Race" also pioneered Orwellian open-borders Newspeak and advised the Mexican government on how to lobby for illegal alien amnesty while avoiding the terms "illegal" and "amnesty." 5. "The Race" gives mainstream cover to a poisonous subset of ideological satellites, led by Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, or Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan (MEChA). The late GOP Rep. Charlie Norwood rightly characterized the organization as "a radical racist group … one of the most anti-American groups in the country, which has permeated U.S. campuses since the 1960s, and continues its push to carve a racist nation out of the American West." 4. "The Race" is currently leading a smear campaign against staunch immigration enforcement leaders and has called for TV and cable news networks to keep immigration enforcement proponents off the airwaves -- in addition to pushing for Fairness Doctrine policies to shut up their foes. The New York Times reported that current "Race" president Janet Murguia believes "hate speech" should "not be tolerated, even if such censorship were a violation of First Amendment rights." 3. "The Race" sponsors militant ethnic nationalist charter schools subsidized by your public tax dollars (at least $8 million in federal education grants). The schools include Aztlan Academy in Tucson, Ariz., the Mexicayotl Academy in Nogales, Ariz., Academia Cesar Chavez Charter School in St. Paul, Minn., and La Academia Semillas del Pueblo in Los Angeles, whose principal inveighed: "We don't want to drink from a White water fountain, we have our own wells and our natural reservoirs and our way of collecting rain in our aqueducts. We don't need a White water fountain … ultimately the White way, the American way, the neo liberal, capitalist way of life will eventually lead to our own destruction." 2. "The Race" has perfected the art of the PC shakedown at taxpayer expense, pushing relentlessly to lower home loan standards for Hispanic borrowers, reaping millions in federal "mortgage counseling" grants, seeking special multimillion-dollar earmarks and partnering with banks that do business with illegal aliens. 1. "The Race" thrives on ethnic supremacy -- and the elite sheeple's unwillingness to call it what it is. As historian Victor Davis Hanson observes: "[The] organization's very nomenclature 'The National Council of La Raza' is hate speech to the core. Despite all the contortions of the group, Raza (as its Latin cognate suggests) reflects the meaning of 'race' in Spanish, not 'the people' -- and that's precisely why we don't hear of something like 'The National Council of the People,' which would not confer the buzz notion of ethnic, racial and tribal chauvinism." The fringe is the center. The center is the fringe. Viva La Raza.
Dental hygienist or Marketing major? Hello I am 23 yrs old and I am just starting college. I have not decided on a major but I have narrowed it down to two majors, Marketing and Dental Hygiene. I still have some time to decide because I only started working on my core classes in May. Ultimately, the reason I wanted to do Marketing is because I want to write commercials. I love commercials and I feel that I am innovative enough to go enter advertising. As for being a hygienist, I have a always had an interest in dentistry. I went to a trade school for dental assisting a few years ago but it turned out to be a ripoff and I quit. I am also considering dental hygiene because you can land a job with only a two yr degree. At some point I think I would like to continue my education and achieve a bachelors, but I would like a legitimate job ASAP. So I am stuck in between a career that will allow me to be creative on a daily basis and a career that I have interest in and requires less time to initially start work. I have wasted my past few year with dead end with dead call center jobs and I have also accumulated some debt including the student loan from the rip off trade school. If you are familiar with any of these fields, please give me some pros/cons to consider. I am aware that they pay pretty good, but I am aiming to be comfortable not rich. If it helps, I`d like to include that I am in the Dallas,Tx area. Thank you for time and I look forward to any info that you may have. I guess i should include that i am a male too lol
When asked about Barack Obama's achievements and qualifications for President? Why do his supporters rattle out this list and feel that it's a big enough "Gotcha" to back everyone off? So he's been involved in organizations and a member of multiple committees. What way does he qualify to LEAD A COUNTRY? This isn't about McCain, and it isn't about me. If you can't answe the question respectfully and truthfully without making it about someone else, don't bother. Answer the actual question. If Obama hasn't led anything and has only been a part of the crowd all this time and wouldn't even go up against his own party in for any real issue (as admitted by him at the debate), how is he going to get an entire country (not to mention Congress) behind him? Do you care?

What is your opinion moral problem with these parents claiming that we have a responsibility to fix their mis? Until his final year of high school, Filipe fit right in. A strong student at one of Boston's best schools, he excelled in sports and won a scholarship to state colleges because of his high test scores. He liked rock 'n' roll, video games, and the Red Sox. He spoke English like an American, with barely a hint of an accent. Then he graduated, and all the doors closed. He couldn't claim his scholarship, a state college charged him the pricey nonresident tuition, and financial aid was unavailable to him. The reason: Filipe is an illegal immigrant. Across America, Filipe and students like him are welcomed into the public school system by a narrow 1982 Supreme Court ruling that guarantees them a basic education, regardless of their immigration status. After graduation, for those who want to attend college, the rules dramatically change. The story that is rarely told is what happens to them next. Filipe got a loan, enrolled in college, and sank $46,000 into debt. He took this semester off to work at a gym and pay down the debt. When he couldn't provide a Social Security number, he lost his job. Now, he is broke, unemployed, and subject to deportation to Brazil, after spending nearly half his life in the United States. "I never thought I'd be here," the 20-year-old said recently, speaking on the condition that his last name not be used. "It's a hard place to be." Every year as many as 65,000 undocumented students like him graduate from high school nationwide, including hundreds in Massachusetts, according to the National Immigration Law Center in Washington. Ten states, including California and Texas, allow students to pay resident tuition and continue their studies, while several states actively prohibit it, including South Carolina. Private colleges set their own rules; some grant students private scholarships, and others do not. http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/05/17/from_in_crowd_to_out/?page=1 What is your opinion a moral problem with these parents claiming that we have a responsibility to fix their mistakes ?

Hows my essay citation? How should I end it? The Most Fit Choice Introduction/Overview of Institutions The act of choosing an appropriate college that suits the needs of an individual is a very ambiguous yet tremendously important process that those striving ahead must go through. As times go by more and more options are becoming available for the public making it more difficult for one to settle quickly and smoothly at an institution but also presenting further opportunities to narrow down one’s choices and figure out the most ideal institution to attend. Among the myriad of post secondary academic establishments across the world, Stanford University and University of California, Davis caught my attention in a much exalted manner. Both of these institutions are very well known for their medical programs and specific criteria of admission along with many other important aspects. And although each university differs greatly from the other in areas such as tuition and enrollment, they still have many things in common such as their campus environment and extracurricular activities. Yet with all their superb aspects and minor personal flaws, both candidates turn out to be an excellent institution with many wonderful benefits across the path for any student looking into them. In the following passages Stanford University and UC Davis will be evaluated and compared against each other in various fields of interest ranging from location to tuition and financial aid. The Information and Findings Location and campus environment are very important factors that should be considered when deciphering through different college choices. For the residents of California, Stanford University and UC Davis are both fine choices to consider attending, for they are both located in California with not much more than a few hours drive in between and to cities all across California. According to their website, “Stanford is located between San Francisco and San Jose in the heart of the Silicon Valley…with an 8,180 acres reach from the rural foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains to the bustling Stanford shopping center in Palo Alto,” a description deserving much approval as far as beauty and natural scenery go. In contrast, UC Davis settles within the core of the Central Valley and is close to the San Francisco bay area as well as downtown Sacramento which holds the State Capital and many other eventful state businesses (“UC Davis”). And regarding one’s personal interests, this is important to consider since some may be more in favor of nature than industry. The institutions are alike however in the fact that their actual campuses are both in small town suburban areas, an aspect that presents a question of transportation (“College Board”). Stanford is a campus in which the most popular manner of commuting lies in biking (“Stanford”). There is even a mile long, palm tree lined entrance to the enormous campus that branches off into seventy eight diverse residential factories, over thirty libraries and a countless amount of even more beautiful campus buildings (“Stanford”). In addition to biking, and the campus’ exceeding of 12,000 bicycle parking spaces, Stanford also offers a shuttle system and Zipcar (“Stanford”). These are very beneficial characteristics when considering such a large campus. But on the smaller side, UC Davis is also an institution in which biking is of the highest popularity when it comes to commuting around campus to the many noted establishments such as an arboretum and an equestrian center (“UC Davis”). On the subject of housing, while Stanford offers a profuse amount of options ranging from coed dorms to language and ethnic themed houses, UC Davis, justifiably doesn’t have as many choices being merely a 5,200 acre campus (The Princeton Review). Stanford however, being the highly prestigious private university that it is, understandably comes with more and better options for its students, whereas UC Davis, although still highly respected, doesn’t offer the same quality or amount of housing or campus benefits as Stanford. These are essentials to one’s vital consideration of institutions regarding campus environment and location. In addition to geography and campus climate, admissions and requirements are also very ponderable concepts for a student to look into. As far as competition goes, there is no question as to the fact that Stanford exceeds a myriad of institutions across the nation in the area of acceptance. The average GPA of the most recent year’s statistics of acceptance was 3.75 and higher, not to mention that 91% of the admitted students were in the top 10% of their class and achieved very high honorable scores in a range of 660-760 on sections of standardized testing (“College Board”). Such students deserve the utmost accreditation when it comes to approval, and being more or less of the minority, are accepted by Stanford on very strict terms. These requisites that Stanford looks into range from personal qualities to the rigor of one’s secondary school record (The Princeton Review). But on a more compassionate level, Stanford cares more about a student’s success in a rigorous course rather than the amount of them that they took (“Stanford”). In contrast, UC Davis doesn’t demand the same level of success among students and their process of admission is much more simpler seeing as to the fact that students merely have to meet one out of three sets of eligibility requirements (“UC Davis”). In fact, out of the 22,333 students who applied to Stanford last year, only 11% were admitted and 67% were enrolled (The Princeton Review). And in comparison to UC Davis, these statistics immensely differ in quantity. In 2007 UC Davis admitted 68% of their 32,635 applicants and enrolled a mere 25% of them (The Princeton Review). The percentages of acceptance and enrollment between the two schools depict the very fact that those who qualify for a more prestigious and difficult institution to get into are much more determined and driven to ultimately attend the specific college of their desires and needs, whereas those who apply to a more broad amount of colleges simply to widen their options and are less qualified for prominent universities act more leniently and not as ambitious in their decision to attend a particular school. Each individual contemplating their college needs is relatively obligated to pay close attention to the degrees and academic programs offered by their institutions. And while almost all known institutions offer the basic Bachelors, Doctoral, Masters and other degrees, Stanford and UC Davis have many special study options. Both universities offer selections like double major programs, honors programs, and independent study internships, aspects important to look into considering the fact that both schools are very prestigious in their medical programs (The Princeton Review). According to their website, Stanford is very determined to fostering skilled and successful medical practitioners, for “candidates who have demonstrated to the satisfaction of their department or school substantial scholarship [and have a] high attainment in a particular field of knowledge and ability to do independent research and present the results…” are granted highly esteemed degrees in a vast range of medical programs. Not far behind lays UC Davis with four honorable colleges of study ranging from biological sciences to engineering, and five different professional schools to choose from (“UC Davis”). Among Stanford’s seven distinct and highly impressive schools lies their School of Medicine which offers over 29 diverse areas of specific medical study ranging anywhere from psychiatry to neurosurgery (“Stanford”). And UC Davis, also being a predominant institution of medicine offers over 26 distinct areas of medical study (“UC Davis”). This displays the fact that both schools attain many options of education in the medical field all of which are highly respected and rigorously taken out. However while UC Davis is one of the most major medical institutions noted across the nation like Stanford, Stanford holds the honor of having a much more ample amount of prestigious study in many different fields as well. These characteristics are very important for a student to look into when considering what school to attend based on their academic needs. On the subject of extracurricular activities, one may not consider them to be very crucial to their ultimate selection if they don’t happen to be an athlete or very active in clubs, however, sports and student organizations truly do play a rather important role. Brandon Barrette, a graduate currently attending UC Davis suggests the fact that it is a good idea to “get involved [in activities] when you are an undergrad. It’s a great way to make friends and great stress relief!” And while one may not believe this to be entirely important or true upon college consideration, it is undeniably beneficial to know that one has so many options for extracurricular activities. UC Davis offers 26 different men’s and women’s sports teams including a vast variety of intramural traditional team sports along with many nontraditional activities as well (“UC Davis”). In comparison, Stanford offers over 21 different sports teams ranging from football to water polo (“Stanford”). And while both schools are closely related in sports, Stanford offers many different summer sport camps and recreational summer clubs and programs in which some are conveniently, not exclusive to Stanford students (“Stanford”). Having sports offered at a school is important even if one knows that they definitely won’t be participating as an athlete, for knowing that there are all these games to be played and competitions to be fought in gives a student the comfortable assurance that there will be something major to rally around campus, something to keep them excited for their years to come. And besides sports, both schools offer a plethora of clubs and student organizations. Stanford offers 28 esteemed sororities and fraternities along with a diverse range of creative art programs and academic clubs (“Stanford”). Similarly, UC Davis has over 364 registered organizations and 49 sororities and fraternities along with 50 religious organizations and an honor society (The Princeton Review). This suggests that both schools believe that extracurricular activities are rather important and necessary enough to include as a major field of activity among their institutions in harmony with their output of education, an aspect worthy of consideration when it comes to personal interests regarding one’s level of rigorous academic focus. As all the mentioned aspects of college features are to a certain extent, equally important, one of the most predominant factors that students look into when choosing their post secondary school is tuition and financial aid. In all probability, not every family can support their child financially when it comes to college. And not to mention, inevitably, prices and difficulties are simply rising as time goes on. But due to such fate, more help is becoming available for students all over the nation through means of scholarships, grants and loans and whatnot. Last year Stanford’s total price for tuition and other fees such as room and board and books and supplies was at a high $51,430 per year (“Stanford”). UC Davis on the other hand, peaked at nearly less than half of Stanford, at a total of $25,754 (“UC Davis”). At first glace, this suggests that Stanford has a lot more to offer through its institution than UC Davis, however from what has been mentioned, both schools are very close in the things they present. Yet there are many ways that a student can financially support themselves as well. Stanford in fact, has special programs that provide tuition grant awards to students based on their financial need and high school status (“Stanford”). Its process of granting financial aid becomes ultimately very beneficial for, students can are fairly judged on their household income and can usually receive the majority of what they are expected to pay through academic yearly earnings, federal and state grants, and university scholarships, things of which are gifted aid and do not need to be paid back (“Stanford”). And UC Davis, although not coming with nearly the same price tag as Stanford, has many financial aid options as well. UC Davis offers campus wide scholarships in which students apply for with simple high school qualifications and are very likely to receive; the school is even very personal and offers specific scholarships such as the Iranian Alumni Association Scholarship that supports students needing financial and of Iranian descent (“UC Davis”). Based on Peterson’s website of colleges and universities, the average indebtedness a student has upon graduation at Stanford is about $16,728 and at UC Davis is $14,372. And with the knowledge that Stanford has a much heftier charge, the fact that those figures don’t differ much suggests that Stanford is a lot more efficient in granting students with enough aid to support them more proficiently throughout their years than UC Davis. In fact Stanford’s average percent of financial need met among students was at 100%, while UC Davis’ was at 77% (“Colleges and Universities”). This concept carries much importance in the long run, knowing that a student could receive a relatively better and far more prestigious education at one institution than another, while still reasonably spending the same amount of money. The Significance of the Findings/Conclusion The facts and analysis discussed above have come to be really compelling in my opinion in relation to how important it is to know what I want out of academics. It opened my eyes to realizing against the stereotype that all colleges merely want profit from their consumers. I became a lot more open minded after performing my research, realizing that an institution with a lot less prestige can and usually is almost or just as beneficial, as in I can still receive a wonderful education anchored towards my goals from a place that may not be as large or as prominent. My confidence level also rose up quite a bit, resting assured that so far I have undeniably exceeded college expectations and met most standards. This suggests that all I have to do is keep going on the same track to success to achieve my goals regarding attending college. All in all however, I still believe that Stanford University is a better institution as far as my options go. I feel that in attending Stanford I will be placing myself on a much higher level of success and subsequently furthering and improving my chances of becoming all that I can be career wise. The details of admission and competition among both schools that I found, made me realize how important it was to peak myself in a well balanced schedule in high school and to thrive in everything I do. Before conducting my research, I didn’t fully comprehend the fact that it wouldn’t always matter what my GPA was for a certain semester or how many difficult classes I took, but rather how well I did in everything that I executed in my life. I know I will irrefutably have the need to perform more research like this in the future, and upon such occurrence I would most likely make sure I fully understood and knew about all my options before I came to any conclusions about them. I would also ensure that I’d have enough time to fully execute such a project to its fullest potential. In general however, this project and the information I found due to it in the end was very beneficial and helpful in furthering my knowledge of two universities that I was highly interested in.
Would someone plz post an Accomplishments BIO of OBama as I am of Hillary? This is only a short list of the good she has done, starting back in her early life. You can pull it up by bringing her history BIO up online. There is much much more. Early life Raised in a politically conservative household,[11] at age thirteen she helped canvass South Side Chicago following the very close 1960 U.S. presidential election, finding evidence of electoral fraud against Republican candidate Richard Nixon,[12] and volunteered for Republican candidate Barry Goldwater in the U.S. presidential election of 1964.[13] Her early political development was shaped most strongly by her energizing high school history teacher, who got her to read Goldwater's classic The Conscience of a Conservative[14] and who was, like her father, a fervent anti-communist, and by her Methodist youth minister, like her mother concerned with issues of social justice; with the minister she saw and met civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. in Chicago in 1962. Rodham attended the 1968 Republican National Convention in Miami, where she decided to leave the Republican Party for good; she was upset over how Richard Nixon's campaign had portrayed Rockefeller and what Rodham perceived as the "veiled" racist messages of the convention That summer, she worked her way across Alaska, washing dishes in Mount McKinley National Park and sliming salmon in a fish processing cannery in Valdez (which fired her and shut down overnight when she complained about unhealthy conditions). Law school During her second year, she worked at the Yale Child Study Center,[34] learning about new research on early childhood brain development and working as a research assistant on the seminal work, Beyond the Best Interests of the Child (1973).[35][36] She also took on cases of child abuse at Yale-New Haven Hospital,[35] and volunteered at New Haven Legal Services to provide free advice for the poor.[ and volunteered at New Haven Legal Services to provide free advice for the poor.[34] In the summer of 1970, she was awarded a grant to work at Marian Wright Edelman's Washington Research Project, where she was assigned to Senator Walter Mondale's Subcommittee on Migratory Labor, researching migrant workers' problems in housing, sanitation, health and education;[37][38] Edelman would become a significant mentor to her.[38] In the late spring of 1971, she began dating Bill Clinton, who was also a law student at Yale. Early Arkansas years Rodham co-founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, a state-level alliance with the Children's Defense Fund, in 1977. For much of that time[81] she served as the chair of that board, the first woman to do so.[82] During her time as chair, funding for the Corporation was expanded from $90 million to $300 million,[70] and she successfully battled against President Ronald Reagan's initial attempts to reduce the funding and change the nature of the organization. Clinton appointed her chair of the Rural Health Advisory Committee the same year,[83] where she successfully obtained federal funds to expand medical facilities in Arkansas' poorest areas without affecting doctors' fees. In one of the most important initiatives of the entire Clinton governorship,[92] she fought a prolonged but ultimately successful battle against the Arkansas Education Association[92] to put mandatory teacher testing as well as state standards for curriculum and classroom size in place.[92] She introduced Arkansas' Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youth in 1985, a program that helps parents work with their children in preschool preparedness and literacy.[94] She was named Arkansas Woman of the Year in 1983 and Arkansas Mother of the Year in 1984. First Lady of the United States When Bill Clinton took office as president in January 1993, Hillary Rodham Clinton became the First Lady of the United States, and announced that she would be using that form of her name.[116] She was the first First Lady to hold a post-graduate degree[117] and to have her own professional career up to the time of entering the White House.[118] She was also the first to take up an office in the West Wing of the White House:[48] the First Lady usually stays in the East Wing. She is regarded as the most openly empowered presidential wife in American history, save for Eleanor Roosevelt.[119] Along with Senator Ted Kennedy, she was the major force behind the State Children's Health Insurance Program in 1997, a federal effort that provided state support for children whose parents were unable to provide them with health coverage. She promoted nationwide immunization against childhood illnesses and encouraged older women to seek a mammogram to detect breast cancer, with coverage provided by Medicare.[140] She successfully sought to increase research funding for prostate cancer and childhood asthma at the National Institutes of Health. The First Lady worked to investigate reports of an illness that affected veterans of the Gulf War, which became known as the Gulf War syndrome.[48] Together with Attorney General Janet Reno, Clinton helped create the Office on Violence Against Women at the Department of Justice. In 1997, she initiated and shepherded the Adoption and Safe Families Act, which she regarded as her greatest accomplishment as First Lady.[48] As First Lady, Clinton hosted numerous White House Conferences, including ones on Child Care (1997),[141] Early Childhood Development and Learning (1997),[142] and Children and Adolescents (2000),[143] and the first-ever White House Conferences on Teenagers (2000)[144] and Philanthropy (1999). Hillary Clinton traveled to 79 countries during this time,[146] breaking the mark for most-travelled First Lady held by Pat Nixon.[147] In a September 1995 speech before the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, Clinton argued very forcefully against practices that abused women around the world and in China itself,[148] declaring "that it is no longer acceptable to discuss women's rights as separate from human rights"[148] and resisting Chinese pressure to soften her remarks.[146] She was one of the most prominent international figures at the time to speak out against the treatment of Afghan women by the Islamist fundamentalist Taliban that had seized control of Afghanistan.[149][150] She helped create Vital Voices, an international initiative sponsored by the United States to promote the participation of women in the political processes of their countries. Traditional duties Clinton initiated and was Founding Chair of the Save America's Treasures program, a national effort that matched federal funds to private donations for the purpose of preserving and restoring historic items and sites,[184] including the flag that inspired the Star Spangled Banner and the First Ladies Historic Site in Canton, Ohio.[48] She was head of the White House Millennium Council,[185] and initiated the Millennium Project with monthly lectures that discuss futures studies, one of which became the first live simultaneous webcast from the White House. Clinton also created the first Sculpture Garden there, which displayed large contemporary American works of art loaned from museums in the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.[186] Senate election of 2000 Clinton has served on five Senate committees: Committee on Budget (2001–2002),[203] Committee on Armed Services (since 2003),[204] Committee on Environment and Public Works (since 2001),[203] Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (since 2001)[203] and Special Committee on Aging.[205] She is also a Commissioner of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe[206] (since 2001).[207] Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, Clinton sought to obtain funding for the recovery efforts in New York City and security improvements in her state. Working with New York's senior senator, Charles Schumer, she was instrumental in quickly securing $21 billion in funding for the World Trade Center site's redevelopment. She subsequently took a leading role in investigating the health issues faced by 9/11 first responders.[211] Clinton voted for the USA Patriot Act in October 2001, as did all but one senator. In 2005, when the act was up for renewal, she worked to address some of the civil liberties concerns with it,[212] before voting in favor of a compromise renewed act in March 2006 that gained large majority support.[213] As a member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, Clinton strongly supported military action in Afghanistan, saying it was a chance to combat terrorism while improving the lives of Afghan women who suffered under the Taliban government. TAKE NOTE: "should such action be required" Now those who go on about her vote can eat crow!!.... Clinton voted in favor of the October 2002 Iraq War Resolution, which authorized United States President George W. Bush to use military force against Iraq, should such action be required to enforce a United Nations Security Council Resolution after pursuing with diplomatic efforts. In late 2005, Clinton said that while immediate withdrawal from Iraq would be a mistake, Bush's pledge to stay "until the job is done" is also misguided, as it gives Iraqis "an open-ended invitation not to take care of themselves. Clinton voted in 2005 against the confirmation of John Roberts as Chief Justice of the United States,[220] and in 2006 against the nomination of Samuel Alito to the United States Supreme Court;[221] both were confirmed. In 2005, Clinton called for the Federal Trade Commission to investigate how hidden sex scenes showed up in the controversial video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.[222] Along with Senators Joe Lieberman and Evan Bayh, she introduced the Family Entertainment Protection Act, intended to protect children from inappropriate content found in video games. In March 2007 she voted in favor of a war spending bill that required President Bush to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq within a certain deadline; it passed almost completely along party lines[234] but was subsequently vetoed by President Bush. In May 2007 a compromise war funding bill that removed withdrawal deadlines but tied funding to progress benchmarks for the Iraqi government passed the Senate by a vote of 80-14 and would be signed by Bush; Clinton was one of those who voted against it. Clinton has enjoyed high approval ratings for her job as senator within New York, reaching an all-time high of 72 to 74 percent approving (including half of Republicans).
So, I guess college is useless now? I am a strong supporter of Education. So far in my short life I have noticed that "most" of the people who do not wish to pursue an education past high school level are a lot more narrow minded. It drives me insane. However, I do know a couple select few who are not looking into getting their 4 year or 6 year degrees, but they at least wanting a two year from a community college. To me, that's okay. At least it's something, and if you know that's what you want..than by all means..do it! Anyway, my friend who is one of them who is planning on only doing a two year degree(Vet Tech) always puts down my schooling and career. She won't straight out say that she does not agree with me, but she will say things like..." I don't believe in taking out student loans..it's dumb to pay for school like that if you can't afford it", and " I know a lot of people who work with me at the daycare with Bachelor degrees, and they can't get jobs". I am taking student loans, and I want to be a teacher..someday.(I'm getting a degree in Psychology, and then I plan on getting Masters in Secondary Education..most likely) So, she says things like that to me, and it is really starting to bother me...a lot. I would like to teach science, and I have heard that there is a demand for science and math teachers, but she told me she knows a girl with a bachelors degree in math, and she can't get a job! I don't know anymore. I am starting to believe some of the things she is saying, but then again I'm not. Anyone have any input? Oh yes, and she works at a local daycare center by the way, and she was bragging to me the other day on how she is almost a teacher now. I understand it's excited when you have the responsibility to be in the room by yourself with toddlers, but the way she said it was like she was trying to brag that she was already a teacher, and I am going to school for nothing. I don't know, I guess I am taking this way too far...like I said, it's just annoying me. Of course I understand that the economy is crap right now, but I still have two years left of my bachelor degree, and then I'm going straight into my masters. I took the long way around...I don't know why..lol.

How big a part do illegals play into California is going to Washington, D.C., to ask for $7 billion ? California is going to Washington, D.C., to ask for $7 billion to cover its budget shortfall. Otherwise it won't be able to pay for its teachers, cops, firemen, and other essential services. Unfortunately, California won't be alone. A number of other states are experiencing a huge dive in tax revenue and could be going cap in hand to Uncle Sam alarmingly soon. How bad could it get? The potential cost for all the 31 states facing both major and minor shortfalls could be as much as $53.4 billion. The data is based on a study by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities released at the end of September and shows the states that have seen the biggest shortfalls in tax revenue in their fiscal 2009 budgets. California Budget gap (as a % of the total budget): 22% Gap: $22.2 billion Arizona Budget gap (as a % of the total budget): 19.9% Gap: $2 billion Arizona was hit hard by the subprime crisis, and its economy has slowed significantly since mid-2006. Lawmakers, who had to make up a $2 billion budget shortfall for fiscal 2009, reduced the Medicaid rolls, put a freeze on hiring, and cut funding for community health centers and state universities. Florida Budget gap (as a % of the total budget): 19.9% Gap: $5.1 billion The Florida housing slump is one of the worst in the nation and only appears to be getting worse. The $66 billion Florida budget for the coming year is about $6 billion less than the one approved the previous year. It includes a $332 million reduction in public school spending and cuts to state hospitals, nursing homes, and various social programs.Nevada Budget gap (as a % of the total budget): 16% Gap: $1.2 billion Nevada has the worst foreclosure rate in the nation, and its economy has slowed dramatically this year. The governor capped the state's children's health program and increased children's health-care premiums, and cut funding for K-12 education, higher education, and welfare.Since these states have high populations of illegals, how big of an impact are illegals causing to their budgets http://finance.yahoo.com/loans/article/105909/States-That-Can't-Pay-for-Themselves
What should I major in to finish my degree? In 1994, I left college, but was still allowed to go through graduation ceremonies, some hours short of completion. Now that I see it, I have basically 30 hours or a full year of undergrad left. I really wrangled my way into the line for grad. Naturally I never got a diploma for my empty folder. But, my whole family thought I had graduated. I have worked as a freelance writer, holding myself out as having a degree in English. I got 2 books published 4 and 8 years ago, I have published articles, blogs and business and grant proposals. I have done mission trips and ministry work with my writing, and am up for a major journalism fellowship (I did not pretend to have a degree on that application). Lately, I have felt very guilty about pretending to have a degree when I don't. Due to serious illness in our family, the construction and publishing markets (my husband's and my work) and a variety of other factors I'm not going to detail here, our family is on welfare right now. As a bit of background, I have not been offered a full time job in five years in spite of my best efforts. I get part time jobs easily and freelance writing jobs easily -- they just don't pay enough for us to pay our bills. My husband (who remodels houses but doesn't charge near enough to support us) and I have to cooperate with the job placement plan in order to keep getting welfare. It's not that the few hundred dollars is such a big deal, but under the program, and since I don't have outstanding student loans, I can go back to school and finish my degree with distance learning through a university about 40 miles from here. I can take online classes or some classes at a center in my town. It will actually take about 2 years because I have to earn 45 hours at this new school to graduate from it. This program offers adult learners courses at the upper undergrad levels and counts whatever coursework you've done to meet the core education requirements. You have to have completed 60 hours to get in and I've completed 98. Here are possible majors available to me: 1. English. Pro: it was already my major and I have a lot of work done in it. Con: I don't see how it will get me farther than I am now. I'm already a published author and journalist and not making enough money at it. I can already get hired for writing jobs based on my talent -- not to brag, it's just a fact. 2. Psychology -- Pro: I like people and helping others. Con: I have absolutely no hours in psychology right now and would have to start with Psych 101. Like all of these, I have the educational core done, but would have to take a bunch of psych and other social science courses. 3. Business administration. I do have nonprofit experience but my lack of degree has kept me from ever getting a job with it. I have no interest in business courses, I'm bad at math, possibly too chaotic for accounting, but I would make more money I think. 4. Teaching certification -- I would go for secondary English. Pro: very easy for me to finish up and possibly steady work that I'd enjoy. Con: Our local school district cut a bunch of teachers this year and I don't want to uproot the kids. I quit the teaching unit when I was at uni before because I didn't think I would be the best teacher. 5. organizational management -- like bus admin but less accounting and other drudgery. Might help me grow my writing business or get a job with a cool organization. What's your advice? Hope it wasn't too long. I tried to break it up into a lot of paragraphs. Thanks!
Does anyone actually believe that Obama's so called "Stimulus Plan" is focused on the economy and jobs? Here are a few juicy bits from the plan that Obama says is going to save us all and contains NO EARMARKS...which is a LIE! You would have to be an absolute BRAIN DONOR in order to believe that this has anything to do with creating jobs! Now you may agree with some of these programs and even like some of them...but ask yourself...does this help Bob who just got laid off from his job at a factory making car parts? These are only a small sample of the MANY wasteful Pork projects that make up the bulck of this giant wast of taxpayer money that is designed to cripple our economy! In addition, Obama signed an executive order mandating that ALL contracts associated with any constrution projects that come from this plan, must only be with Unionized companies...but the media is keeping a lid on that! $44 million for construction, repair and improvements at US Department of Agriculture facilities $245 million for maintaining and modernizing the IT system of the Farm Service Agency $1 billion for "Periodic Censuses and Programs" $100 million for "Scientific and Technical Research and Services" at the National Institute of Standards And Technology $400 million for "habitat restoration and mitigation activities" at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration $140 million for "climate data modeling" $250 million for "Mississippi River and Tributaries" $2 billion for development of advanced batteries $1 billion for expenses necessary for advanced battery manufacturing $1 billion for the Advanced Battery Loan Guarantee Program $200 million to revitalize the National Mall in Washington, D.C. $800 million for Superfund programs $50 million in grants to fund "arts projects and activities which preserve jobs in the non-profit arts sector threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the current economic downturn" through the National Endowment for the Arts $500 million for "Buildlings and Facilties" at the National Institutes of Health in suburban Washington, D.C. $1 billion for Head Start programs $1.1 billion for Early Head Start programs $100 million for Social Security research programs $200 million for "Aging Services Programs" $2 billion for "Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology" $2.3 billion for the Centers for Disease Control for a variety of programs $13.6 billion for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act $300 million for Amtrak capital needs Edit: G: Let me do some basic math for you...since you OBVIOUSLY never thought to do it yourself. Obama's stimulus according to him is supposed to "Create or Save" 3 to 4 million jobs. OK, first off...he's lying..but let's set that aside. How can one quantify a "Saved" job? You can't meaning, even if unemployment goes to 30%...Obama can claim...and you would likely believe him that he "Saved" 4 million jobs. But I will even set that aside for a moment and let's deal with the straight math. Let's say the plan works perfectly and Obama's created 4 million jobs that we spent $790 BILLION DOLLARS to create. $790 BILLION DOLLARS divided by 4 million jobs = $197,500.00 That means that each of those "Sweet Government Jobs" that you love so much cost the US Taxpayer (That would be me) $197,500.00 EACH to "Create" and that is if Obama's plan works absolutely flawlessly and does the absolute MAXIMUM that Obama predicts. But don't forget, Joe Biden even says this plan has a 30% chance of failure and guess what...MOST ECONOMISTS AREN'T EVEN THAT OPTOMISTIC! Finally, can you tell me the last time Amtrack actually made a profit? I'll give you a hint...Woodstock hadn't happened yet! In fact...the Beatles hadn't come to America yet either! Edit 2: G: 1. I don't get my information from Rush. 2. He did in fact sign the executive order. 3. You obvioulsy cannot understand basic concepts...like the silliness of spending nearly $200,000.00 of taxpayer (That's me) money to create a job that MIGHT pay $30,000.00! C.N.: Guess what...disagreeing with that IDIOT Barack Hussein Obama is NOT a crime! Passing this Pork Burrito disguised as a so called "Stimulus plan" IS A CRIME. Being ignorant enough to actually believe in this plan...should be punishable by death. G: If you actually believe Obama's plan is focused on creating jobs and helping the economy...I feel bad for you. As far as Amtrak goes, it's only purpose seems to be wasting trillions of taxpayer, (that's me...obviously not you), dollars, because that is all it EVER accomplishes! I feel bad for you...I really do. Obviously you have been brainwashed into believing that in spite of what your eyes, ears and even common sense tells you...you believe in Obama's plan for no toher reason than he told you to. Here's your source..and it's not even from Rush Limbaugh! HAHAHAHA http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/obama_labor The order encourages federal agencies to have construction contractors and subcontractors enter project labor agreements. Those agreements require contractors to negotiate with union officials, recognize union wages and benefits and generally abide by collective-bargaining agreements. It's not a "Signing order"...it's an Executive Order...Big Difference! You really should learn what these things are and what wieght they carry before you decide to debate me on them and their purpose.
Poor communication skills, will I get nowhere? I am desperate, I graduated with a bachelors in Computer Science but have poor communication skills. All jobs require this, and most interviewers immediately disqualify me. I can't get any of the programming jobs because I don't have the experience, so I have been applying for call center, technical support jobs and these require communication the most. I have no money, have to pay back loans, and probably will have to go to some warehouse and do work side by side with people that have no education and illegal people. I feel worthless. I know you may be laughing at me. but I don't know If you could give me any tip or some advice I would be very thankful.
