Student loans...advice needed....my husband has great lakes student loans...what are his options? Hi...my husband has $80 000 of student loans with great lakes. He thinks he had federal student loans originally and he consolidated them with great lakes but he is totally useless when it comes to finances so i am trying to find out some information. Are his loans still considered federal loans or as he consolidated are they now private? Should he/can he reconsolidate his student loans with another company? Are great lakes a good company? Does he have any other options to lower his monthly payments? Any advice would be welcomed. I have never had a student loan so I don't know the territory!
Why did the US Dept of Education trasnfer my Stafford student loan to Great Lakes Educational Loan Services? Is this good or bad for me? Is there a better service for me to use other than Great Lakes? The letter I got in the mail says that Great Lakes is now servicing my Stafford student loan account. Does this mean that they can raise my interest?
is my lender bank of america or great lakes? I have a stafford student loan. great lakes sent me the master promissory note for it which I lost so they told me to fill one out on bank of america website. I want to pay it back who should I be contacting BOA or great lakes and who can I ask for a receipt or something to prove that it has been paid back?
Who owns Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation? I have my student loan with Great Lakes and wanted to know who actually owns my loan. Has my loan been sold to another company? If you can find that information for me that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Trying to be supportive BF: How can my GF find out about all her student loans, and a consolidation option? My girlfriend just graduated and is stressing out about her loans. I don't know much about the details of her loan situation, and she isn't 100% positive about it either. She has a number of loans (let's say 7) out: 2 Federal Stafford loans 2 Great Lakes Loans 3 Michigan Mi-Loans Now, looking at Sallie Mae's loan consolidation application I don't see an option for "Great Lakes" or "Mi-Loan", only Stafford loans. So does that mean that a company such as Sally Mae can't/won't consolidate these "mi-loan" and "great lakes" loans? If not, how should she go about consolidating her loans? Also, on the "Great Lakes" website along with the two loans she has, there are two other loans for 2750 each that say, "Not yet disbursed". Disbursed = payed out or distributed, so I assume that this means she perhaps applied for the loan, but never actually took the loan? Thanks for any help, sorry for being totally ignorent. I was spoiled (and then got a great paying coop!).
How does the drop in interest rates affect my son's student loans? My son is a college freshman. He has a FDSL loan of $3500 and a student loan from a bank/Great Lakes Educ for over $2500. Will his loan interest accumulation fluctuate with the changing interest rates? Are the drops in the interest rates which we are hearing about on the news of any benefit to college students?
Great Lakes Loan Payments? I have my student loans with Greak Lakes. I can't seem to find whether or not my payments will ever increase. Can anyone give me any info without saying "call them". Thanks
Do late payments of student loans, that are less than 30 days, have a negative effect on my credit score? I recently started a new job. During the time I was jobless I became one pay period (two weeks) behind with my budget. For the last month or two I have been two weeks late with each of my student loan payments. I have Sallie May and Great Lakes loans. Neither have been charging me a late fee, but i want to know if less than 30 days hurts my credit. I cannot seem to get a straight answer from anyone. Please IF YOU DONT KNOW THE ANSWER WITH 100% CERTAINTY DONT ANSWER THE QUESTION. I don't care about what you think or what your hunch is.
Does "great lakes" Have any right to send unsolicited e-mail, paid off a federal student loan w/o signature? in 2001 i obtain a federal student loan for my son, i was always on time with the payments; in an unsolicited e-mail "I did not respond to" great lakes co. paid off the loan and is now asking me to pay them instead, 1. I did not sign any thing requesting a pay off 2. my ex husband was ordered in divorce judgement to make the payments way before the e-mailed me. What are my obligations to pay?
Has anyone had to deal with DCS collections agency before? After my GREAT LAKES Student loan went default, this agency contacted me about my balance. They say they work for Great Lakes so they have no hidden costs associated with them, even so far as making my payments out to Great Lakes and not DCS. Also, they say they can only take payments electronically, not by mail, because I dont want to give them my bank account number! Please share your reviews, Thank You!
Lower My Student loans Monthly Payment? I am paying $512 a month on my student loans. Since my roommate moved out it has been a lot harder to pay the bills. Now i have paid every penny and havent missed a payment, but it is getting really hard to pay that much a month. If I file a consolidation loan for three student loans is it legal for them to only consolidate one? I filed for a student loan consolodation with Great Lakes Borrower Services for three different student loans. I was told I would receive an answer by the second month, I did not, I sent an email asking what was going on and no answer. I then called and was bounced around and never received a call back. After four months went by I sent an angry email requesting they cancel everything. Funny how it should be the loan was filed shortly thereafter, I was never contacted about the approval of this loan not via mail or email. The funny thing is they only put through one loan.. Why the heck would I even have bothered? Now my one loan has moved from one lender to great lakes and my interest is .5% higher.. Is this legal? There is one man I speak to who is very rude and basically calls me incompetent, even though I would love to find out more but he cant tell me..
will they take your stimulus check for unpaid student loans? I have a forbarence for my us department loans and for sallie mae but i thinks i owe great lakes
Is this a scam, what should I do? I received a letter from Great Lakes (student loans), the letter just talks about payments and tells me when I have to make them. It also tells me to go online to mygreatlakes.org to update my account where it asks for my SS. I am not sure how they got my information because I don't recall applying for any financial help. Is it a scam? This wasn't an email It was a letter sent to my home address.
Should I get an IBR or consolidate my federal loans? So I have 2 federal student loans, with 3 payments a month. When with Wells Fargo, the trustee being ACS, and the other with Great lakes. Should I consolidate these loans? Or should i get and IBR? Both? What is the downside? Its just getting harder to pay the bills. Thanks!
If I already have a student loan, can I ask for more money since I have decided to go back to college? I need money for this new college I would like to attend, I already have a student loan through Great Lakes, and I was wondering if they could just add to that loan the money I need for this new college. I would only be asking for 6,000 maybe a little bit less. I am trying to avoid getting a new loan and also applying for one since my credit is not all that great. Please help thank you! I haven't even been out of school that long to start making payments, so I have not made any mistakes or missed any payments.

My car payments are also very high ( 425/ month ) I need a plan and i was intending to sell my car , then pay off my credit cards ( one by one ) . How to pay my Discover Student Loans with my Credit Card? A little background information: -Discover/Great Lakes only allows payments made directly from a bank account using a routing number and account number -I have a great rewards credit card, where i get 1% back each month on my purchases -I wanted to pay the debt off in portions using my credit card to get the %1 back, obviously paying off the credit card each month. Is there a way around this problem? Can a credit card issue an account number and routing number? I'm a member of the Pentagon Federal Credit Union that is linked to my credit card.

US Department of Education and MyGreatLakes? The US Dept of Education is now servicing my student stafford loan through Great Lakes. They are charging me 6.8% daily. Can they do this? Why isn't this happening to my peers in college with the same loan? The money hasn't even been disbursed to me yet, and they are saying that the interest is accruing daily. I know this is the right interest rate because we called the lenders already. This is a big headache. Obama Student Loan Forgiveness program for teachers? I am a new teacher with $35k left in students loan balances. I currently pay $420 a month for all of my loans. My bi-weekly paycheck comes out to a little under $900. Each loan I took out was a Stafford Loan. The loans were sold in two parts by Citi bank to Great Lakes and Sallie Mae. Is the loan forgiveness after 10 years of teaching actually real? Or is it just talk? Am I safe to lower my payments? The payment plans I browsed will save me close to $130 a month and add $25k more in interest, but if the loan forgiveness is true it will not make a difference on what my balance is because I stop paying in 10 years? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!
How do I find out how many loans do I have to start paying in a month ? My student loans were deffered for a year , So far the payments that i have to make are of following Sallie mae , Citi Bank and Great lakes ( i consolidated all my federal loans with them ) .. Now how do I find out if I have any more loans or not? These are the only people who are sending me mail every month so I am guessing these are the only loans i took out , i was in college for 6 years . Where can I get all this information in detail ? I have no clue of my loan informtions because i was depressed all through my college life.
Which branch of the military should I join for student loan forgiveness? I still don't have my degree because I dropped out of college about 9 credits short to pursue another career field that has left me laid off for over a year now. I have around $100k in student loans. I heard the Navy and Army offer up to $65,000 in student loan forgiveness. One recruiter said just finish the 9 credits and try for OCS but I have no money for that and my GPA is horrid for OCS. Plus I heard student loan forgiveness doesn't apply if you get into OCS. I heard if I joined the Army I would leave basic an E-4 (is that specialist or corporal?) and if I joined the Navy, an E-3. Obviously Army basic would be harder than the Navy or AF but which is tougher, Lackland or Great Lakes?
I can't pay for school anymore and I need some help...please advise? I am a 24 yr old male that lives in Ohio. I went to a private college for two years (mostly to play football) and realized I could continue there and finish my degree (which I hated) and keep playing ball or I could give up football and transfer schools. I ended up going to Ohio State and stopped playing football to chase my dream of becoming an architect. I entered the program and did well (mostly As and Bs) for three years. In my senior year I started running into money issues because my private school cost me over 28k a year and OSU was about 12k a year. I have no credit really and my parents have limited funds and low credit so I can't go to them. I finished my last year and now I am 5 courses short of graduating. However, I find myself in a position where I can't pay for school anymore. I barely paid for my last year and due to the lack of credit I can not get loans (tried sallie mae, great lakes, private loans, etc. ) and my parents don't qualify for Plus loans or anything. I now am 6 months removed and have student loans from Fafsa (around 65k total) calling me daily about payments and no solid job because no one will hire me because I don't technically have a degree even with 6 years of school. I have asked a lot of people and I can't find any help. What should I do? Any ideas on where I could turn for work with architecture related skills? Any ideas on how I could pay for the rest of my college? (ps i exhausted my subsidized and unsubsidized loans) Any advise is greatly appreciated. Also I am not depressed and actually I have no emotional issues or lacks in personality so please refrain from the psychology evaluations. Thank you for your help and sorry for the sob story but I figured you should know the background
I need help with student loan issue! The bank that gave me the loan and the servicer isn't helping me!? I have a private student loan through U.S. Bank that is serviced through Great Lakes Education Services. It took me 3 months and a $114 cell phone bill to make this happen and U.S. Bank approved it. NOW, Great Lakes is saying that my account is delinquent when its supposed to be on a forbarence?!?!? I called great lakes and they directed me to U.S. bank and U.S. Bank hasn't returned any of my messages. I'm at the end of my rope and they're pissing me off because it's damaging my credit because somebody effed up. What can I do? Sorry, I should have mentioned that this particular loan is on a forbarence...thats what took the 3 months...

If passed, participants can not lobby congress to pass it again until they become citizens I made my revisions so that no one can claim amnesty is being offered for parents. This will not offer amnesty for any one over the age of 19 , but others can be sponsored This bill as I have stated will deport any participants who fail to live up to all qualifications. please respond to question positively I don't want to hear anything about AMNESTY in your response, only what you like like or dislike about draft. This bill is very rigorous and should hopefully satisfy any doubts about program not all schools/colleges/universities have to participate in accepting students Don't bother responding, I showed this to my mom and the first thing she said is that illegal alien students would not want to qualify under these conditions
Why don't the people in OWS, just go back the school and major in (IT, MEDICAL, ENGINEERING, SCI OR BUSINESS)? I mean, there is money to be made. Associate degrees in this fields are better then most 4 year degrees. A 2 year degree in accounting, for instance, can make $35,000 a year. Not a lot...but still great for just 2 years of school. IT professions and medical support make similar amounts. The hot occupation is now medical assistance, but this profession lakes the financial reward (most would be better off doing equipment repair or transcriptions (where money can be made, if you are good). Transcription isn't easy, as you have to be good to make real money. Just saying...you have people with 4 years degrees in history and communication...they are not going to make any money. They will be lucky to break even from school. Would have been better off cashiering. (factoring in the student loans) bls.gov look up accountant...buddy. LPN and Computer Repair as well.
Is it worth it? What college would be the "right" choice? Choice A or Choice B? About me: Hi my name is Alyssa. I am from Southern California. I wear flip-flops all year round. Own one pair of shoes that I wear when I work out. I have zero heavy jackets. I wear tank tops and tees all year round. I am a social butterfly. I talk to every person I meet. I love people. I am an active person who loves the outdoors. Activities and social events..LOVE. I am not rich. Money sometimes is an issue. So that is why college is a difficult thing. I know you are going to say...stay in state. or go to a community college. But. NO. I want to go out of state. Far away. Far away from anything I am used to. I want to have an experience. I want to go out and see what I can do. Choice A: -Winthrop University (South Carolina) - decent, manageable weather - great programs - 5000 students (decent) - greek system - BORING town (bad) - lacks diversity - Quite expensive; actually really kinda expensive ***This is pretty much the school I want to be at. Small, but not too small. Nice weather, great programs, greek system, etc. Choice B: -University of Wisconsin-Superior -I am from SoCal...so HUGE weather difference -SMALL amount of students, 2600 (Bad) -no greek system -BORING town. (bad) - 3% asian (ps. its a good thing in my eyes) - 48% women (good thing) - okay on the sports. -because of scholarship, only paying in state tuition -with fed grants and scholarships, everything is paid for tuition wise. - SO basically only paying for books, housing, etc. -Has a great program for my major. -Near a lake - COLD COLD COLD (bad) -lacking diversity (bad) - 17 to 1 faculty ratio ***Basically a nice school. Would not hate going here. Perfect second choice school. Just cold. SO basically its come down to money. I would love to go to Choice A, but money is an issue. With Choice B, I have everything pretty much covered but the weather would be the issue. With choice A, I would have to basically pay about $20,000 a year in loans and what not. With choice B, I would basically pay for housing, books, etc. Tuition is covered. Should I take the basically free ride....or is the $20,000 a year worth going to college??

I've been in college for 3 years and i'm still confused on process of applying for student loan? Every summer i seem to forget what i have previously done to get my student loan. Do i just apply at a loan website? I have previously done it through city bank, who then gave my outstanding balance to great lakes banks. As well as a local bank and sallie mae. So my question is do i just fill out a loan app online? And I have already done a mpn, but haven't completed my fafsa yet.
How much do I really owe in student loans? In 2004, I was a Sophomore in college. I did very well my first year and was on the Dean's List. But my second year, I was in a bad car accident a week after classes started. I was hospitalized for a week and nobody contacted my school to let them know. I was on financial aid and a scholarship but to keep your financial aid and scholarship, you can't miss more than 3 days of school. I checked my records (with the college) online and it stated I withdrew from classes. I did not call the school right away because I needed surgery and was on medication so I was not thinking clearly. I only attended 6 days of school total and knew I wasn't going to be able to attend the rest of the semester. I assumed at the time that my financial aid would just drop and I wouldn't have to pay the remainder of my semester. I never applied for a loan, however I agreed that if I did not get full financial aid benefits then I'd be interested in receiving a loan to pay for classes, which I must pay back. I did not apply for the loan and never gave my bank info out. But the school automatically signed me up for a loan to cover the costs of my semester. I did not go through a bank but instead a third party student loan organization affiliated with my school. They automatically signed me up for a loan and I didn't get notified or receive any letter in the mail or anything. Six months after I dropped from classes I did get a booklet in the mail with what looked like coupons that I must rip out one each month and mail it along with a check for $287 to Great Lakes Financial Services (student loans). I had no idea what that was at the time and just threw it away thinking it was spam. I never got an actual bill and that was kind of the loan offices "style" to make the bills look like cute little coupon books. I have been wanting to go back to school for a long time but I can't afford it and I'd need to get fafsa again. I can't get fafsa if I have an unpaid loan wit the school. I am willing to apply for a loan if I could- to attend school. But my total semester fees were a little over $2,000 that I'm supposed to owe since fafsa didn't pay for it. But I only went to school one week at like $60 a credit hour. Six months ago, my unpaid loan fees were finally added to my credit report. My credit report shows I only owe $287 for my student loan. I contacted my college and they say they can't access my account because it was closed and I needed to contact the loan agency. They told me I could just find out online and gave me the website, where I entered my social security number and birthdate and I could find out. So I logged in and looked up my account summary and it says "There is no application or loan information on our system for you at this time". It shows I owe nothing to them. But my credit report says I owe $287 for my loan when I know it should have been $2,000+. Is it possible that I only have to pay the credit hours that I attended? If I paid $287 to the credit bureau, it it possible I could go back to school and get a loan or financial aid to help cover that? I read there is no refunds after classes start. So how much do I really owe?
