citibank student loans - past due semester? i'm looking to take out a private loan for my spring semester of 2011. i thought i had taken out a loan to pay for college but something happened during the process. i'm not sure what but i know that i'm now straight out of luck and need to take out a loan so i can get the hold lifted off of my school registration and start registering for classes. do i have to have a cosignor for citibank and wells fargo? and do they both cover past due semesters? if not, is there any banks that do student loans that accrue no interest during the school year and do cover past due semesters? thank you.
Question about Citibank student loans...very confused? I have four loans through Citibank and I just graduated from college a week ago with my BBA. They have two ways of paying it back...graduated repayment or standard repayment. For graduated repayment it gives you a 24 months option and a 48 months option. 24 months option would be $128 a month then $212 and 48 months option would be $118 a month then $221 with more principal long term. For standard it would be $199 a month. I don't have a long term job lined up, just for sure doing an internship this summer making about $300 every two weeks. It lasts from May til August and then after that I am not sure what I am doing. Thinking about getting my MBA. Which one should I choose? And if it's graduated, should I do 24 or 48? Any help would be appreciated.
Is a student loan with citibank eligible for loan forgiveness? I currently have a student loan with citibank. I am hearing about the loan forgiveness programs for teachers (I teach special education). The things that I have read say it has to be a direct loan, and I am having trouble figuring out if I might qualify.
Has anyone else had a bad experience paying back student loans with Citibank? I had a student loan that I payed off in full when I came into some money, but I kept getting monthly bills. When I called Citibank, the tellers would give me vastly different amounts that I apparently still owed. In one day, four separate tellers gave me four different answers to how much I still owed, ranging from $.40 to $24,000.00. After a nightmarish year of arguing with incompetent Citibank employees, I finally got them to send me a letter saying I had fully payed off my loan a year ago--and they also send me a refund check with some of the extra money I payed them. I don't know if the experience has ruined my credit rating or not though. Has anyone else had an experience like this when paying off student loans? Should I take legal action?
How many promissory notes are there when getting student loans from the same institution? I'm a student right now, and i have gotten a total of 2 student loans from citibank. One was 10k for my freshman year and the other was 5k for my sophomore year. I'm right now in the military and trying to get the student loan repayment program, and they're asking me for promissory notes for both loans, but from what I remember, I didn't get a promissory note on my second 5k loan, because I got from the same account and same institution... Would this second promissory note, does it exist? would it be needed?
Can I refinance my consolidated federal student loans? I already consolidated my federal student loans with Citibank. I have a subsidized loan and an unsubsidized loan. My interest rate is 6.6% and I understand that rates have since dropped (I consolidated around 2006). Can I resell my loan to another bank or lock in a lower rate some other way?
Can you still make payments on deferred student loans? I have a private student loan with Citibank. I am registered to begin grad classes this upcoming fall. I will be attending at least half the time while working full time. I've thought about deferring my undergrad loan to help make payments but ultimately this allows for more interest to accrue on the principal that is unpaid. Can I make whatever payments I can on this deferred loan? Will I be penalized or will this void the deferement?
Paying off student loan with Citibank? I have a small student loan with Citibank that I have now paid off. How do I get it to close to where I'm still not paying them interest or fees? I'm sorry, but I'm new to this and admit to my own naivety. Google was of no help in answering this question and I am truly embarrassed to be even asking such a seemingly obvious financial literacy question. Thanks for any help!
Student financial assistance from chase or citibank? Anyone? Anyone get a private student loan through citibank or chase? Are there any other easier companies to go through? What actual paperwork is needed? I don't wanna go through sallie mae but 1 time I got one and they only required enrollment verification. This is only for people who got a student loan through chase istudentloan place. Spammers will be reported Anyone can reply except spammers.
Help choosing private student loan lender? Any experiences with these companies? I'm trying to choose a lender for my private loan. Could you tell me your experience with any of the following companies? Question regarding private student Loans? I'm currently 19y.o. and I'm about to go back to college (finished 2 years at ITT Tech and now have a balance of $30k w/ Sallie Mae). The school that I'm planning to go to is LA Film School which costs $42k in tuitions. Now I'm hoping to get the maximum I can get from grants, scholarships, and the Sallie Mae federal loans but I'm going to be short that's for sure. It's only a 1 year program and they tell me it's probably not a good idea to get a job during the school year since the program is pretty heavy on the student. I'm an only child with a Mom that only makes $25k a year. She also has a lot of bills, bancruptcy, etc from the past so I'm unable to use her as a cosigner and I don't know anyone else I can use. So I was wondering where I should apply for a private student loan. Citibank, Chase, Bank of America, etc, and if they will allow me to borrow $20k+. My credit score is currently at 711 (FICO) and I'm very good at paying things off on time. Thanks for the help!
Viewing and Paying off loans on Citibank.com? I have a Student loan from CitiBank and I went to the site to view how much I owe and to pay some of it off online. Does anyone first of all know if it is possible... and if it is how do you do it? thanks
Reliable banks to get student loans from? I was looking into Citibank- but I've read and heard some pretty scary things about them in regard to student loans. Does anyone have suggestions regarding student loans? I can't go through the school. I have to get a private loan from a bank.
Are private student loans a good idea for my situation? Hey guys, . I filed my FAFSA and I am ineligible for any federal loans, so I would have to take out private student loans. I have a co-signer with pretty good credit (credit score over 700) and, here's the kicker, I actually do have the money to pay it, but it's in in the stock market (it would be at a higher interest rate though). However, I was thinking of taking out a student loan since you can make small payments over a long period of time. Nevertheless, it seems like many people regret taking out these loans in the first place. So, a few questions: 1. Is it a good idea to take out a student loan? 2. Which lender do you recommend (so far I"m looking at Sallie Mae, Citibank and Access)? 3. Is there an option for automatic bill payment with these student loan lenders and would this prevent me from having the interest rate increase? 4. About what interest rates can I expect for a private student loan? Thanks so much for all your help.
Consolidating Student Loans? Heres the deal, i have about $35,000 in Personal Student loans through Citibank. I'm looking to consolidate all four loans into one thats stretched out over a long period. I plan on paying it back before the 20-30 years ive seen but right now I need the losest possible monthly payments to afford rent and such. Any suggestions of where to go or what to look for? Any help is greatly appreciated thankyou.
Are there any banks of institutions that consolidate student loans? So I've searched and called every bank and student loan consolidation firm and no one is consolidating, except for Citibank. I'm disappointed, I mean not even the government backed agencies and the gov't itself are willing to consolidate because the economy is so crappy. Anyone know any place where I can get a somewhat decent rate? And when I said everyone has closed their doors, even Nextstudent, Myrichuncle the list continues. All because it is not profitable to consolidate.
Aggregate limits on private undergrad student loans? I've heard from Chase, Citibank, and a few others that their aggregate limit is 120,000 for private undergrad student loans. But, my college is particularly expensive and I get little to no federal aid for my educational expenses. I'm worried about hitting my limit before I graduate. Are there any private undergrad student loans that have an aggregate limit of over 120,000? Or is this number for everyone? I could have sworn that a few years ago when I was looking at schools that the limit was higher...
Will any of these student loans lenders might give me trouble? You know how when some credit cards are doing bad stuff, word gets around and people start talking online and warning others to NEVER get this card cuz rate was increased for no reason, etc and eventually they get a bad reputation, well, do any of these student loan lenders have any shady stuff in their past: Wells Fargo, Chase, Citibank
47% of income paid to Student Loans? I am paying almost HALF of my income out in student debt. No one can afford to do that. This is a new demand for payment. New debt. Do I have any options? My total bill is less than $5,000: so I haven't found a consolidation loan. I can give them 25% of my total income, but not 47%! Please read below and advise... I attended University of Phoenix, was assured that I would not incurr additional expenses outside of loan. Now I have original loan, citibank loan, and U of P is after me for additional money. The original loan company was applied to for U of P loan, they said they covered it, balance reflects change, but citibank is coming at me saying they paid! Citibank refuses to provide proof that I borrowed the money, but are attempting to attach to my credit. U of P will not accept lower payments, without attaching my credit. Original loan is the only one with a sane payment, and I am out of deferments, unless I go back to school and add MORE debt. This huge amount of payment is obviously temporary, the problem is that they all want to be paid right now. Another thing... Can Citibank attach my credit without providing me proof of debt? How do I protect myself from this?
It is a good idea stick with one lender for all student private loans, or stick w/the same for for all loans? I have gone through the same private lender (BOA) for all my federal and private student loans. However, this year I am thinking of borrowing from citibank for my private loan needs. Is it a wise move to switch to a new lender for my next loan, or should i stay with the same one? Even though citiassist has a slightly better rate, will my payments be more once i get out of school because the new lender will think i only borrowed 10,000 and charge me more based on that fact that they think that i can afford to pay more back? In other words, will having 2 lenders cause them both to think i only have borrowed from them, and consequently mean higher payments for me than if i were to stick with one lender?
What banks should I look at for private student loans? Avoiding them is not an option, I know they're not ideal, (and I know that is an understatement). But all that aside I am still going to need one to meet the remainder of my expenses, which banks should I look into? My school told me my peers are using sallie mae and citibank the most, but someone on here said those two would be a big mistake.
What companies have people used to consolidate private student loans? I tried CitiBank and they are just a bunch of rude, @$$holes that could not communicate. I was denied because "they never got a letter that they never requested from me" exact quote from Winie the Supervisor (Operator code #SE009). So I am looking for another, creditable company to consolidate with. I see that many of the large banks are pulling out of this practice. So if you have consolidated let me know who you used and how happy you were with their service.
Student loans, where to get them? Best bank? I know that CitiBank and CHASE bank offer student loans. Has anyone had any experience with this and/or have any advice to offer me? Have you had problems? Are there any other banks you know off that offer student loans? Thanks in advance.
Why am I getting Nelnet bills when I'm repaying my loans through the banks? I just got a bill yesterday from Nelnet for almost $300 for my student loan repayments. I graduated in May and have just started paying back my student loans back through Chase (private loan) and Citibank (for government loans). So does anyone know why I'm getting this bill? The information doesn't even match up on my loan amounts so I'm just really confused.
Which is a good lender for student loans? I'm applying for a Stafford loan. Which is the best lender? Have you had any personal experience with any of these groups? Thanks Sallie Mae Wells Fargo Citibank edAmerica Chase Nelnet Discover
What to do when I am having a hard time getting getting a student loan? I am a novice when it comes to student loans and I am back in school. I am not a kid and have worked all my life and have good credit but somehow I am not getting approved for a student loan and school is about to start. I am not having too much luck with my cosigners and I seem to be in better standing credit wise. I applied to Capital One personal loans/ Chase personal loans/ Citibank student loans and nothing. The reason I did the personal loan option is that I needed cash fast to pay my bills but didn't get approved either. Suggestions? I am undergraduate.
Student Loan Forbearance Request Denied? I am hoping someone might be able to help me or at least share some options for what I might be able to do. I recently graduated from college about 6 months ago. I joined a volunteer program that is not through Peace Corps or any other recognized official United States service. I am volunteering through a program in Israel known as MASA. This program was offered for 5 months with an optional extension of 5 months, so 10 months total. I decided to stay continuing my volunteer service learning program. I had been hoping for the best but expecting the worst -- and the worst did happen. And I wasn't sure of a backup plan. My student loan is through Citibank. I have a private loan through them as well as a Federal Stafford Loan and an Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan. I knew my grace period would be up after 6 months so I requested a deferment. After speaking with someone from the Citibank Student Loan corporation, they said that I would be eligible for a forbearance request. The woman I spoke with -- and I don't recall her name -- said it likely wouldn't be a problem. This was probably a little less than a month ago. They sent the Forbearance Request forms to me, which I had a relative in the US scan for me. I filled it out and after figuring out how I could get it back to the company on time, they emailed me stating (and I have a copy) I could rescan it and send it as an attachment through email. I even included the links to the attached documents. After about a week of sending it three times, they kept returning a message of: We are unable to receive your attached message, please send it via fax. I was unable to get to a working fax machine so I rescanned it and sent it to my relative, who printed it out and sent it via USPS. I had the letter sent in the beginning of the week and at the end of the week, it was returned. They sent a letter back saying that my forbearance request -- for all three loans -- was denied. The message for all 3 loans was: "Your Private Loan Forbearance Application was received beyond the 30-day limit. As previously explained, your application must have been received within 30 days from the date in which we spoke with you on the phone." I admit that I cannot recall exactly when the date was that I spoke to them on the phone. It doesn't state in the application when the date was. I had gone through problems with them for about a week before they would even accept the application from me. I am in another country so I explained to them my situation might take a little more time. My first payment is required in 2 days -- March 9, 2011 and I cannot make this payment. So, my forbearance request has been denied. I do not want to go into default. I do not have money in the bank to begin paying any type of monthly sum. Even if I return to the United States early which would require a change of flight plans and dropping out of the program I am in early, I would still have to find a job, which will take time, and that would prevent me from paying back my student loans immediately anyway. So my plans were to stay here for the remainder of the semester, return home, get a job, and begin paying back my student loans after my forbearance period was up. But I am not sure what to do with this dilemma - as I did not expect to get denied. Does anyone have any advice for how to handle this situation?
What are the best Student Loans? I am trying to find a good student loan. Which lender do you think I should go for? I heard Citibank would probably be the best. I am still waiting for my dad to file his tax papers so I can complete the FAFSA form. What is good other than FAFSA?
Student loans increase?! How? I was just going around answering a few answers question and stumbled upon when which caught my attention. A guy said he received 35k in student loans!!!! I do not get that much and he said he gets it because he lives off of this amount (does not work). If I was wanting to increase my loans through my bank how would I go about doing that?! I have loans through Citibank and I also get Financial Aid The full amount. I am unemployed right now (who isn't?) and would like to get enough to live of until I get a job (moving to florida the state that has been hardest by this economic crisis). At the moment I only get 10,000 from bank loans and about 5,000 in pell grants. How do I increase the bank loans? Call them?! Advise please?!!!
Citibank CitiAssist similar loans? Are there any other loans similar to the citibank citiassist loan for international students? Because the $120,000 max loan isn't enough for me so I would take out 2 different loans. Is that even possible? Does the CitiAssist loan payout directly to your bank account?
Using student loans for rent? While in college, the minimum wage job I have is not going to allow me to pay for rent, unfortunately. I am receiving a loan from my university (but it does not cover all expenses) then asking for money from a Citibank loan. What I did is asked for more money than my tuition will cost from citibank. My school will just use what is needed then give me the rest in a check that I can use to pay my rent or whatever other school costs, correct? I'm going to call and get things straightened out soon, but if anyone here has any tips or pointers for this kind of thing, help would be appreciated!
Chase, Citibank, or other for student college help? Do you think I can get a $5,000 private student loan with any company with a 537 FICO score but with a cosigner who has a good FICO score? Astrive doesn't have my school listed, don't wanna use sallie mae and Suntrust.
Am I eligible for a Stafford Loan if I've defaulted on a private loan? Several years ago, I defaulted on a private, non-federal (Citibank) student loan. Am I eligible to now receive a Stafford loan for graduate school? I believe Stafford Loans are NOT based on your credit score, but I just wanted to be sure. Also, I know you aren't eligible if you've defaulted on a FEDERAL loan, but I wasn't sure about private/alternative loans. Any info. is appreciated!
Any student loan companies still offering to 2 year colleges? I called Chase today to renew my student loan and they dropped my college. So did Citibank. I'm in a pickle here. Federal money isn't available to me. Anyone know of any company still offering a student loans to a 2 year college (edison community college)?
Anyone get a chase or citibank loan? Question? I was just wondering what verification was required? Like income verification or just school verification? This is only for people who got a student loan through chase istudentloan or citibank. Do they require income verification paperwork? I did a sallie mae once and it was super easy...just asked for copy of drivers licenses and enrollment verification.

a question about student loans? I am a graduate student in New York and I want to take out a loan to help with my tuition and other educational expenses. I was looking at the Stafford Graduate Loan offered by citibank. IS this a good loan? Do you know about any other loans that have a low interest ... maybe about 5%....?
How and from where should i consolidate my student loan? I have student loan subsidized and unsubsidized total of about 20000 with 4.25% interest rate and citiassist (private loan) of 6000 with the same interest rate all from citibank. Can i consolidate my loan with lower and fixed interest rate? Citi doesnt consolidate any more.
Chase, Citibank, or other for student help? Do you think I can get a $5,000 private student loan with any company with a 537 FICO score but with a cosigner who has a good FICO score? Astrive doesn't have my school listed, don't wanna use sallie mae and Suntrust.

Need advice about Student Loans.? I'm in a situation where I need to come up with $5500 (housing expenses). I have the option of accepting the $2000 Federal UNSUB loan (6.8% interest, payed as soon as the school receives the money) and get another loan for the difference. The other option is to use CitiAssist Loan for full $5500. https://www.studentloan.com/findstudentloan/citiassistundergraduateloan.htm#iratesButton I called citibank and was told the interest rate can be between 4-25% depending on the cosigners' credit history. I took out a Citibank Parent Plus loan for freshman year that has 8.5% interest rate. The third option is to apply for Parent Plus loan again. Please help me out, I want advice on what would be the best decision. :-/ Thanks a lot!
Private student loan ripping me off!? My citibank private student loan has gone up to 9.25%!!! It makes me so mad. Would it be better to transfer it to a lower interest credit card? Will it affect my credit? I'm good about paying on time.
