Us Dept Of Education Direct Loans Knowledge Base
What's the best way to pay off student loans? okay, these loans have been consolodated through "Direct Loans" "US Dept. of Education", we pay on it every month but the interest is killing us! Is there a such thing as transferring this debt to some place more affordable?(Loan totals $22,000.00). I just need to know if the way we are currently paying it is the best/smartest/only way to go.
How do i get the US Department of Education to accept my Americorp Voucher? I have a loan of now 2,800 dollars from direct loans and I keep mailing them the form filled out with the whole payment. They do not accept the online payment thru Americorp nor will they fax anything back to Americorp. Ive mailed the correct form over 6 times. I even payed for signature confirmation to ensure that they recieve the voucher form. The US Dept. of Edu. said they mailed the filled out voucher to Americorp on Feb 16. Americorp states they havnt received anything from them. Americorp gives me their fax num, allows me to do online payment requests but the problem is the US Dept of Edu JUST tells me ' oh well we mailed it out on Feb theres nothing else we can do'. They wont fax anything to Americorp, they wont allow any other confirmation of mailing out the voucher to Americorp, nor will they mail it back to me so i can pay for a signature confirmation from Americorp. What agency or who can i contact if the US Dept keeps giving me the run around about ensuring that they get payed through Americorp? Im at my wits end with calls back and forth and the US Dept just saying we sent it through reg mail we cant do anything else. Please help, at my earnings i cant afford to give payments every month and id rather just use my Americorp Segal Award to pay off my loan entirely.
Defaulting on student loans? I am defualting on all my student loans. Most are from direct loans and have sent them to a dept collector. I am currently insolvent and collect unemployment. I have less than $500 in my bank account and am getting by paycheck to paycheck. I recently cashed my last unemployment check and my aid is now exhuasted. I had to file for an extension and don't know if they will grant me the extension. From my research my game plan is: -Ask for economic hardship or forbearance -Ask them to "wave collection fee's" and try to work out a "income base repayment plan" or if I can't get that ask for a"graduate repayment plan" -If I can’t settle with collection agency I plan to call US Dept Of Educations defualt resolution group I am in really bad shape financially. It's been hard keeping a job since I graduated and only have come across short term contract jobs. I'm backed up on all my bills, barley can pay rent and can't afford any payment probably over $60 a month.. Please help me out. I am in dire need of advice. I don't know what im going to do and am scared out of my mind. If anyone can help me out with any advice or knowledge please let me know what I should do. Thank you very much
How can I get around a collection agency and back to the original creditor? Student Loan. I defaulted in my student loan. Is with a collection agency, but I can't afford the payment they want. I would like to negotiate with the original creditor - US Dept. of Education. Doesn't the Fair Credit Reporting Agency state that you are only legally obligated to the "original creditor? Also - I was on a direct debit payment agreement with the collection agency and then had to try to stop it. They "agreed" to reschedule the payment as I asked, but then they changed the "check number" on the direct debit and tried to deposit it anyway. Isn't this type of behavior illegal? Any help with this would be appreciated.
