If you've had bad grades in college before, will you still be able to get federal student loans? I want to start over at a completely different college in another state because I didn't do so great the last time I went. Will I still be able to get federal student loans? Also, can the college that I want to go to somehow see my previous grades and reject me?
can you start paying your federal student loans while in college? i'm an incoming freshman and i took out $5500 in loans from the government. $3500 of it is subsidized and $2000 are unsubsidized. say i had a little extra money every now and then, could i apply that towards my loan before i graduate college?
Federal and private college/student loans? I'm a highs school student and am looking at all the information on loans. Colleges on me to pay, mom can't, and I was wondering about loans. I am almost 100 percent sure I do not make too much to qualify for loans. I know that there's federal and private loans. Can someone please provide me with information on both? Also what if i do not get enough loans to cover tuition, will I not be allowed to attend the college. Also I am looking mainly at state schools
Can Federal student loans be transferred to another college? Please help. I was interested in going to ITT tech and applied for financial aid, got a fafsa loan and I'm supposed to start next March. However, I have heard such bad things about this school that I am not sure I want to go there anymore. I am now interested in going to a community college but I am usure if I can take my loan there or if i am stuck where I am. Please help.
Do Libertarians believe in Federal Pell Grant and Student Loan funding for financially needy college students? -I'm Libertarian. -In college 3.7 High School GPA. No scholarship unfortunately. -Parents have not so good credit. I have NO credit so private loans aren't really an option. -Even though I'm working to pay for college, I still wouldn't have enough if it weren't for the Pell Grant and Federal Student Loans.
Has anyone used federal student loans to seattle central community college? I really want to go to this school but my mom makes to much money for me to get anything from financial aid, makes sense but she isn't going to help me pay for any of my education so I'm looking at loans. I'm looking for a full time job also to help pay for stuff. I have been looking at direct federal loans, I'm still pretty fresh on the idea of loans so I still need to learn more. This is on their website: Loans Seattle Central Community College DOES NOT PARTICIPATE in Federal Student Loan Programs (Stafford Loan, PLUS Loan, Perkins Loan). We encourage students to do research on their own, contact several lenders, and compare the various terms and conditions of the loans they offer so you can select a non-Federal loan that best suits your needs. Please note that non-federal loans generally require students to have a steady source of income and good credit, or a co-borrower with a steady source of income and good credit. What does this mean? How can a school not accept loans?
If I am listed as a dependent on a tax return, will I still get all of my FAFSA and federal student loans? If I am listed as a dependent on someones tax return, will I still get all of my FAFSA and federal student loans for college? or will that money be deducted and I will get less than before?
I consolidated my federal student loans many years ago at 9 percent. If I take out a small college loan...? Can I re-consolidate at a better rate? I can take two courses at the local graduate school, take out a tiny loan, and then re-consolidate? Any non-spammer will get 10 points.
If you are a former college student and still owe money for Federal student loans...? If I file my taxes will I get a tax return? I make my monthly payment and nothing is late. What I am wondering is if they will automatically just take my return or if i will still get some back?
College tuition but not federal loans and collections? My daughter started taking a college course online with Ashworth college. She did not borrow money from the federal government or take out student loans except she had to pay the school directly. It has been years since she was enrolled with them and dropped out without paying the remainder of the course. Now all of a sudden they are hounding her for their money and offering settlements. Since this isn't a federal student loan or a bank loan, how long of a period has to elapse before they can start contacting her again? I think it's been 7 or so years since she heard anything from them until now.
Can federal and private student loans be consolidated? I have recently heard that private student loans cannot be consolidated, only federal student loans. Is this true? I just graduated from college and I mainly have federal student loans, but I also have one private student loan. I have always assumed that student loan consolidation meant consolidating all of your student loans. Can anyone help me out on this or does anyone know if some places consolidate both?
My College Is Slowly Lowering The Amount I Can Take Out In Federal Student Loans. Can They Do That? I went to school before and got a technical degree from a trade school. I completed school and then was never able to find a job in my field. I decided 1 1/2 years ago to go back to school for Nursing at my local community college. My other loans are in good standing. When I started everything was fine. I was getting $3500 a year (which is the max they allow) in Federal Loans. Last semester they cut me down to $2000 a year and I have to reapply every semester instead of once a year (sophmores should get $4500). This is not even enough to pay for my $1850 for classes - $500 for books - plus all I need to pay out for my Nursing supplies. They stated the reason they are cutting my loans is because they don't want me to bein to "too much debt" when I graduate...but if I don't complete school I will never be able to repay everything. Can they do this to me? Is there anything I can do? It just seems like shady practices to fund someone halfway through your school and then basically cut them off!
I want to go back to college..but I defaulted on my Sallie Mae Federal Student Loans? I defaulted on my Federal Student Loans Thru Sallie Mae....and about a year ago got my wages garnished because of it. ( I moved and didn't update my address, so that was my fault for not getting my mail) and I didn't know anything about it until my HR coordinator gave me papers where they were going to garnish me to repay my federal stafford loans....and I was like ok, I didn't fight it cause i knew I owed and it would be a way to get it paid back......but Now I've been thinking about returning to school and finishing..or possibly joining the EMT Program at my college which is a 2 yr program and you ultimately get trained as a Paramedic...to help get a better paying job...my current job is retail and though I like it in the grand scheme of things doesn't pay very well after the garnishments.... anyway, would I be able to return to college and take out loans again even though I have garnishments for the first set of loans I took out 4-5 yrs ago? Thank you.
Can you use federal student loans to pay for a college outside the U.S.? I live in Mexico but am a U.S. resident, I want to go to the University here cna I still get finicial aid from the U.S.

I want to go back to college, can i get more federal student loans/grants to go back to college?
Why are people so upset about if you are convicted of a drug violation you can't get federal student loans? Doesn't make sense to me. A person uses illegal drugs by choice. And now a group of people who were convicted of drug offenses want to change the law taking no responsibility for their actions. Moral of the story, if you plan on going to college someday and will need federal loans or grants, don't do illegal drugs!
Why does Ron Paul want to end federal student loans? Are the college students going to vote for him?
Federal Pell Grants and Student loans and an IRS tax Lien? If the IRS has a lien against you for unpaid taxes, would you still be able to get Pell grants and Federal student loans to pay for the cost of college or would they be denied?
Are there student loans that are better than federal student loans? I'm attending college next year, and although I've put considerable effort into scholarships, etc., I still have roughly a $12000 deficit for next year... I have an offer for two federal student loans, one subsidized and one unsubsidized, which will get me considerably closer to completing my budget. Should I take these, or are there other student loans with better terms out there? (other than the EvaLee C. Schwarz one, I already applied for that) Thanks in advance!
Is it unfair to forgive student loans on the backs of the nearly 3/4 of Americans who didn't go to college? This was on an article from politico: "“It is unfair to forgive student loans on the backs of waitresses and construction workers and the nearly three-quarters of Americans who didn’t graduate college. Increases in federal subsidies or student loan bailouts shift the burden of paying for college from the student—the person directly benefiting from college—to the millions of Americans who did not graduate from college,” -Burke What do you think?
Is it possible to utilize student (federal) loans to pay for college and living expenses? I currently work full time & attend college at night. I am finishing up my 2 year degree (almost done) with a 3.7GPA. I'm currently receiving Financial Aid, Pell Grants, & usually a scholarship each semester. My ultimate goal is to either quit my job altogether or work minimal hours/week while completing school full time & be able to financially afford this! I would need at least $1,500/month in order to survive. I need to come up with a plan ASAP as my hours are being cut at work & I can not afford to continue this path. I only have about 5 classes left in order to graduate with my AA & I am already set to transfer to a large University nearby. Thank you in advance!!!!!! I forget to mention that I do not have co-signers for a loan, I have TERRIBLE credit, and I live on my own.
Can I borrow extra money from federal student loans/grants? I have a young child and am not married, so I am likely going to be eligible for the entire amount of the Pell Grant ($5500) plus some federal student loan help. I am going to a Community College so tuition is relatively inexpensive (I believe around $3,000 a semester). I am wondering, if I only attend classes PART-TIME, can I still take out extra/addditional federal student loan money or grant money to pay for my living expenses (apartment rent, a few odd bills, etc)?
What is an unsubsidized federal loan for a college student? For my son's financial aid package from his school of choice, a portion was a FEE loan, unsubsidized. Are there specific reasons to accept or deny this type of loan, from your experience? Why wouldn't I just get a loan from a bank with a better interest rate?
Does the military pay back private student loans? The best information I can find says that the military offers college loan repayment for "qualified loans." Does this refer to only federal student loans or do private loans qualify as well? Also, has anyone enlisted in Active Duty or Reserve Duty and received tuition repayment?
What banks or other credible organizations will help consolidate federal student loans? I recently graduated from college with $131,000 in student debt. I have obtained a full-time job but am only making about $2,000/month. As it stands right now my monthly payments will be greater than my income (excluding any type of rent or other living expenses). I desperately am in need of some sort of consolidation product that would lower my monthly payment at this time.
Federal Student Loans? Has anyone every wondered why the government isn't doing anything about the jobs being outsourced? And if former college students are having problems with paying back their loans, why can't the government do anything about these jobs so that these former college students would be able to pay the federal(and I repeat FEDERAL) students loan back? Additional Details Ok we borrow federal student aid from the government and after we graduate, we would have to pay these loans back to them... So my argument is that if they need these money back to them, why can't they do anything about these jobs?? So if they want us to contribute to the society economically, why can't they do something about it? So all those years(2-6-or even more yrs) of going to college for a specific type of major(for that dream job) is just down the drain? That's just a big waste of going to college then..
Do federal student loans have to be paid back? I wanna know what my options are when trying to pay for my college education this coming fall semester. I know about scholorship and private student loans already.
Is it true that a kid who commits a crime will never be able to apply for a federal student loan for college? Does it makes a difference if the kid was 12 or 13 when arrested and applies for financial aid at age 18 and needs a student loan? Does it make a difference if the crime was a misdemeanor or a felony? Aren't juvenile records supposed to be sealed at age 18? In other words, how does a juvenile record affect the financial aid process when applying for college? Found 1, You're right. I have been given misinformation. I did a Yahoo Answers search for similar question and the answer was the same as your....only if it's a drug conviction.
Federal Student Loans - what if you have horrendous credit? Lets say that you are 20 and ready to go to college. You have great ACT scores of 32+ and had a 3.5 GPA in high school But your credit is shot. You charged up a storm at 18 on 5 credit cards and stopped paying them minimum years ago. Your parents also have horrible credit. With a history of not paying bills, and having collectors sue them. Can you still get federal government student loans to go to college? Not private student loans - but federal This is NOT personal. Just curious how it all works. I asked in Education - Financial Aid - no one answers
Is this a lot of student loans to get out of college with? I will be getting out of college with about $30k in student loans, some federal some private. If I choose to get my master's degree then it will probably be up more like $45k. Is this a large amount of student loans to get out of school with or is this manageable?
If I go to part-time college student will I still have to pay on my Federal Stafford Loans? Last spring I started attending Chapman University for adults. I transferred my jc credits and started my junior year. I have kept going to mainly keep from paying of my loans. Next year, I will be a senior but a part of me just want to stay at home with my children. I feel I would do better if I just waited until my 2 yr. old is in K.
If I owe a college a balance, can I get a student loan at that college to cover that in order to go back? In the fall semester of 2008, I dropped all of my classes at the college I was attending. I owe a balance to the college of $1,400. Can I re-enroll at the college and get a federal student loan and have that cover the balance I owe?
How can someone who is undocumented receive loans & scholarships for college? I'm a inspirational speaker, and I speak to many students who grew in the USA, but are not 'official'. They have trouble going to college, because they cannot get federal student loans. What other options do they have?
simple question about federal student loans? I am a freshman in college in New York. We received a federal student loan and pay $600/month. My question is: when I re-apply for student loans for my sophomore year, will that amount double because we are applying for a new loan for my sophomore year? Please, please help. I need answers. Thanks..
does private student loans effect the future financial aid of students for college? i just want to know if state and federal grants for college will be effected by the private student loans. for example, if private student loan is taken to consolidate credit debt in addition to college semester bill.
Student Loans: Private vs. Federal: Which One would You Recommend? I am starting college in the fall. I have received various private student loan offers. The rates are variable but they can be low with a creditworthy co-signer. Sallie Mae offered 2.25-10 apr. The lowest starting range plus different payment options and incentives. I want to apply but what's the reality of getting a lower apr than the federal student loans. The parent plus student loan is around 7 apr.
What are the rules on federal student loans? I am currently attending a four year college, online and I want to go to a second school. This school will be a vocational school. Can I get another loan to cover expenses at another school? I want to attend both schools, at the same time.
besides federal loans, what is the best way to finance college? i'm going to be attending a small Bible college, and they dont accept federal loans. its only $9,000 a year, but i still need some help financing it. i've checked banks, and its not listed in their list of schools, so i cant take out student loans from banks either. i dont have very much money saved, and my parents cant help me. Any suggestions? :) thanks
Okay to worry about paying off student loans? Reaching $60,000 and I still have two more years in college!!!!? I just finished my second year in college. I have loan of $60,000 with interest rate of 10.25% - $50,000 on private loan (Sallie Mae Student Signature Loan) and the rest on federal subsidized loans. They are all under my name on my credit. How did this happen? I go to one of the most expensive private colleges in the country and I wasn't so particularly wise while filling out my FAFSA in my freshmen year. My parents are not in a financially good position to take out loans for me...even federal PLUS loans. I have to get about $13,000 more for my junior year. I see seniors graduating with much less debt than I have right now, and I always worry about paying off all these loans in the future!!!! Has anyone been in a similar situation as me? Am I supposed to worry or is this pretty normal????? Any advice for a poor college student? THANK YOU!
Does anyone know the maximum amount of federal student loans are? I'm currently a college student, and I had taken out the max. amount this year (this yr and the end of last yr) currently. I'm looking to be enrolling in a community college next month, but can it ake out the max amount? I don't want to have to work so much while going to nursing school..I was working 2 jobs while I was enrolled in the school I'm at now. I think I had taken out 9500 in student loans so far, and I want to differ my loans a lot longer...Is it possible to have grants, and possibly student loans at a Community college? I need at least 5k in student loans this semester coming up!
Will federal student loans pay for two different schools? I want to go to the college that I have been going to for a year now, I like it there and it is a very affordable and equipped institution. The problem is that I want to take chemistry at a different school so that I can bypass an extra math class. If I need to pay out of pocket, I will, I just want to know so that I don't get waste time with financial aid at the other school if I won't qualify.
Smart idea to pay off private student loans with federal loans? I'm a sophomore in college, and as of now, I have $20,000 in private loans. Now, once I become a junior/senior, I will get up to $10,500 each year in federal loans. Should I just use the federal loans to start paying off my ridiculously high interest rate private loans? After all, most of the federal loans will be subsidized, and by the time I graduate, I will have about $27,000 in federal loans, and maybe only a couple of thousand in private loans if I use this method of paying them off. I'll consolidate the federal loans together, and pay off the private loans ASAP(again, should only be $2000-$3500 if my calculations are correct. Note:I have the ability to start paying off the private loans while still in school through sallie mae. The interest on 3 of these loans is 14.25%!! And one with 11.25%. Federal loans are less than half of this.
Can a college only accept private loans? I was interested in going to Five Towns College in Dix Hills, NY until a financial aid officer told me that the college doesn't accept federal student loans, only private loans. Have you guys ever heard of such a thing? Or should I double check with someone else in the Financial Aid department?
Are Federal Student Loans course specific? Hi! Was wondering if someone could give me an answer, as school office hours have passed today. Are federal student loans degree specific? This will be my last semester at the college I am attending, and a class that I am scheduled to take, is not required at the college I will be transferring to. In order to stay above half time, I would have to take a class that is not necessary, but I'm concerned that my loans will be rescinded if I do. Thanks for any help!!
how can I go to college without government assistance? how can I attend college without using the government or tax money to pay for it (public colleges, federal student loans, etc.) Would I be able to get student loans from a private bank without accepting any government loans beforehand?
Can I get an income sensitive payment plan for federal student loans? i declared a chapter 7 in 2006 and had credit card debt discharged.......but by the time I finish my college Ill be 30 grand in the red....can i get a payment plan that won't have me homeless since I cannot get another bankruptcy for student loans??
Where should I borrow college loans from? Federal or private? I will be attending Barnard College (in Manhattan) in the fall. The total cost would be about $56,000 annually. I applied for financial aid in March (by filling out the FAFSA and CSS Profile) and Barnard sent me an aid packet of $42,000 that looks like this: Grants/Scholarships: $36,700 Federal Work-Study: $1,800 Federal Direct Subsidized loan: $3,500 I accepted all of the above. My family now has to pay an additional $14,000 to meet the total. My parents are paying $6,000. I will need the additional $8,000 in student loans. My question: Where do I get $8,000 in loans? Can I apply for more federal loans? Or are private loans my only remaining option? If so, where do I get private loans from?
Can I get U.S. fed student loans for a distance learning degree through a canadian college? The best choice for the degree program I would like is a Canadian school. Would I be still be able to get a student loan? I am a Michigan resident and a U.S. citizen but this Canadian school has the best degree program for my needs.
What are the co-signer credit requirements for student loans? My son needs about $ 10,000 - $ 12,500 for college next year after scholarships, Federal student loans, grants, etc. He has no established credit. Will he be able to do this on his own? I filed bankruptcy in September 2005 and was discharged in January 2006. Am I eligible to co-sign? My income consists solely of disability income and I don't think that I will be returning to work anytime in the forseeable future. Thanks.
What would American society be like if the federal and state governments did not back student loans or grants? If the government (state or federal) did not have some sort of college financial assistance, how would that affect American society? Would private lending institutions be motivated to dish out college loans? Would enrollment at college drop significantly? What other issues may arise?
What alternatives do I have when federal student loans are just not enough? I am an INDEPENDENT student attending college, the maximum Stafford Loan I am eligible for is $9500, which I received. That will cover the cost of 1 semester. That leaves the following semester unpaid for. My EFC was 7700 because I made nearly 70k last year. I lost my job and don't make anything close to that now, and won't without a degree. Since losing my job I defaulted on multiple credit cards and lines of credit which has lowered my credit score to an embarassing low. I don't believe a private lender will loan me any additional funds. Are there any programs I can utilize to help pay for school? Is there anyway to up the Stafford Loan amounts? What are my alternatives?
Older returning college student/community college/no fed loans...? I'm a 48 year old woman planning to attend a community college in the fall. I am enrolled. I have no savings, no scholarships. My school does not accept Federal loan moneys. I obtained a private loan, but it was a "certified" loan...and the college will certify--that is, approve--only the amount they think I need? That is, I got a private loan for $X, but they'll only approve $X-Y, based upon what they THINK I need? This is a commuter school. There is no on-campus housing. I'm enrolled in an intensive, 40+ hours a week vocational program that meets days only. It is the only such program at a community college in the entire state. I have to pack up and move in order to attend. The school, at present, is taking none of these costs: moving, off-campus housing, food, bills, into its determination of what I "need." They're looking only at fees and tuition. So my questions: A) How do I communicate to the school my actual need, (and will they care if I do) and B) is an uncertified private loan my only option? In answer to the questions below, it's Seattle Central Community College. A state-run CC! Yes, it blew my mind too, that a STATE school simply wouldn't accept FEDERAL money! I called them back and asked why. I was told, "because so many students default on their federal loans, we were in danger of not being able to accept any federal money. So we kept the grants and lost the loans." I still don't understand why someone defaulted on a federal loan would harm the school. Federal loans are "certified", that is, the money goes to the school first, which takes what needs. If the student then defaults, that's between the student and the federal government. The school already got it's money!
Are there any kinds of student loans besides federal loans where I don't have to pay until I graduate? I am worried that I won't be able to pay my full college tuition. My parents make too much money for me to qualify for any grants and I am worried they will not get the parent plus loan. I am 85% sure they will not. Are there any private loans out there where I don't pay until I graduate? I plan on going to medical school so I am not worried about paying them off after I graduate. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
If I transfer to a new college, do I have to start paying back student loans? I attend college "A", and i use federal loans to pay for my tution. Im transfering to college "B" this comming fall and i plan on using loans to pay for my tution as well. Do I have to start paying back my loans even tho I will still be enrolled in college full time when I transfer?
Community College Students: How much did you/do you qualify for in Federal Student Loans? I know the max amount is $5500. I know I can't take out more than the Cost Of Attendence. Are transporation and personal expences included in Cost of Attendence?
Question about using federal student loans to buy college text books, etc? Ok im going to college in another month and im at the point where i need to pay off my semester tuition... I have 3 federal student loans that i can accept that will take my semester bill down to around 3000 dollars...i was thinking that if i where to accept 1 or 2 or none of the student loans and then just pay off my semester bill how do i use my remaining loan money on college related needs? I read that your semester bill/tuition must be payed off before you can use your remaining loan money for books, computer, etc.. I cant seem to find any information on this, do i just accept the loan money and use it on what the government considers college related needs? Thanks in advance
Is there a way for me to receive federal student loans to pay for all 4 years of college? I'm going to be a freshman at Florida Atlantic University this fall. I filled out my FAFSA and my EFC is around $15500. Neither me or my parents can afford that and I expect to use federal loans to pay for all of that plus books. I looked at Stafford loans and William D. Ford loans and it said there's like around $5,000 a year limit. Is there a way for me to put all of my educational expenses (tuition and books) in federal student loans and pay back the loans with interest after I graduate?
Student Loans for College Expenses? I have borrowed the maximum amount of Federal loans for my college tuition, and applied to several lenders (Chase, Citibank, Wells Fargo, Sallie Mae) for a private student loan. But I have been turned down because of my bad credit, and my cosighner's credit is somehow not good enough, even though it is good. (around 670-700). What other loans are out there for me? Are there student loans that don't need a cosigner, besides Federal ones? I'm in need of alot of assistance.
Am I eligible to receive federal student loans if I am deliquent in loan payments to a university? I repaid all of my FAFSA loans that a received for college, but yet I still owe money to the university I attended. I am wanting to reapply and return to college. Can I apply for and receive FAFSA loans if I am delinquent on payments to a university?
Is there any downside to paying the interest early on student loans? I am a full time college student and have substantial student loans. Federal Unsubsidized at 8.5%. Sallie Mae said that I am able to just pay the interest with out the loan going into repayment, but is there any potential down side to this?
Private student loans for community college student? I have used all FAFSA and Federal loans. I need to get a private student loan and I go to Pasadena City College, I need more money for books and room and board. Does anyone know any student loans that I can take out? I have a cosigner and okay credit. I won't do business with Wells Fargo, I need 20000 for a loan. Does anyone know where I can get a private student loan with these stipulations? Chase and Citibank will not lend out to community college students I've already checked, is there anything else?
subsidized and unsubsidized federal student loans separate entrance counseling? I just completed the online entrance counseling quiz on the federal government's student loan website for my student loans. Now my college wants me to do the exact same entrance counseling quiz again because I have 2 federal gov. loans: a subsidized one and an unsubsidized one. Why do I have to take the same counseling twice?
Can i apply for Federal Stafford loans? Or do they exclusively come through the school? Would it be possible to apply for an entirely unsubsidized Federal Stafford student loan? Do colleges HAVE to offer them in their financial aid packages for you to be able to take one out? Also, do you know if its beneficial or if the interest rates are lower if there is a cosigner with the loan? Are there any other loans you would recommend? Thanks :)
federal student loans? I took out a subsidized and unsubsidized federal student loan to help pay for tuition. I was to recieve the loan money throughout 3 quarters in school, I attended only 2 quarters and decided not to go back to that school. I cannot transfer the loan because I am now attending city college and city colleges do not handle loans. Can I request the rest of my loan money to be sent directly to me to help pay for school related expenses? I believe the money was sent back to its lender. can I still request the rest the loan money.
Where should I borrow college loans from? Federal or private? The college I'll start this fall has an annual cost of $56,000. In financial aid, they have given me $42,000 (out of which $3,5000 is Federal Direct Subsidized loan). My family now has to pay $14,000 to meet the total. My parents are paying $6,000. I will need the additional $8,000 in student loans. My question: Where do I get $8,000 in loans? Can I apply for more federal loans? Or are private loans my only remaining option? If so, where do I get private loans from? Mistake correction: Out of the $42,000 the college is giving me, $3,500 is Federal Direct Subsidized (not 35000). Sorry ):
If I am getting a federal grant from one community college but they don't offer student loans...? ....and I am enrolled in 9 units at another community college (I'm trying to get through school quickly). But I am wanting to borrow some money via a student loan, am I eligible to obtain a student loan from the second college if I already got the grant from another?
Can you apply for the federal stafford student loan before you register for your classes? I have applied to a community college and just gave them my ged last week so i have not actually been accepted yet but the school accepts everyone so that is not an issue. I need to apply for the stafford student loan along with the salli mae community college loan just to pay for tuition. Since i am not even technically a student yet can i apply for these loans?
Can I get federal loans for my personal trip during college? Can I get any kinda federal loans during college for my personal trip? or any loan that specifically for students only? thanks
what student loans are available if i already have the FAFSA and Federal Stafford Loan? I am a full time student at my local community college. I am low income and I am unemployed. I currently have the FASFA and Federal Stafford Loan. I need a little more money to be able to afford my CNA program and a car for my transportation to and from school. I also need a little left to get me by untill next semester.
College student - loans and cosigner questions? I have a few questions about cosigning for private student loans and loans in general: I received financial aid for the upcoming academic semester but need about 7000 more (thats with federal loans already factored into account) to cover the cost for the semester - I was emancipated from my parents and so am financially independent... I only know two other adults who I would ever even consider asking to cosign a loan for me through Wells Fargo, and they said of course they would...but they're both bankrupt - how significant is that of a factor in the approval of a student loan? I can't get one without a cosigner through my bank b/c I have zero income and no credit score. Does anyone know of any alternate loan sources I could easily get approved from without a cosigner? I don't care right now about high interest rates or whatever...I just really want that loan :\ thank you!
Is there any possible way to combine federal and private student loans? I wish to God they told me in college that I wouldn't be able to consolidate them all down the road. I have federal through ACS at a total balance of 20K- fixed rate of 7.25% with monthly payments of $130 (But scheduled to go up again soon). I have private through AES at a total balance of 34K-variable rate of 9.97 (which seems really high) with monthly payments of $285 (Not scheduled to go up for another year now). I pay $400/mo in just student loans and with my car payments, credit cards, and rent- it's not cutting it. Everyone I've talked to said there's nothing you can do. Fannie Mae said they can consolidate them but only to make it once monthly payment of the total I'm paying now. How can I consolidate the two into one lower longer term payment? Or if I absolutely cannot- should I reconsolidate my 9.97% Variable rate loan? Note: I'm on that plan where they assume you'll have a good job over time and the payments gradually step up. But I still don't have that good a job!
Where can my daughter get a student loan for college.? That she would not have to pay back until 6 months after she graduates and do they do a credit check because she does not have bad credit, but she never had any credit. Are there any federal student loans that could help her pay for her whole education?
do federal student loans do credit checks? How do they determine how much money you would get.. I am 19 and will be sophmore as of next semester.. And, then only would give me up to 6,00.00 a year for college.. Why is that?
City College Student Loan? Hello! I am getting ready to take out a subsidized federal student loan for the 2008-2009 school year (I will receive the total loan payment in 1 lump some this Spring). Since my school is a city college, it only offers "first year" loans of $3,500 and "second year" loans of $4,500. To recieve a "first year" loan, you must have less than 30 units completed. However, I just completed 30 units as of the end of the Fall 2008 semester. Since it is still technically the 2008-2009 school year, can I still take out a "first year" loan for $3,500 even though I completed over 30 units?
Federal student loan - Is it possible for me? I'll be honest - I know little to almost nothing at all about the whole student loan system. For my first year of University my parents basically took care of all the finances. Now that I've failed out (I failed out last year in the spring) i'm stuck with $3500 in loans that I need to pay back. I have not made any payments on them in months and it's a little overdue. My credit score might be somewhere in the range of 500-550. I'm dirt poor and have no money out of pocket. I'm looking to go to community college this summer and it's going to cost my about $2600 to go there. The payment for that is due in full by May 13, 2009. So, since I have no money and I am in debt, I don't think i'll be able to take out any private student loans...but I've heard that credit doesn't matter for federal student loans. I was thinking...once I get into community college, I was going to apply for federal aid then apply for federal student loans to help pay for the rest. I thought that maybe during school I could get a part time job to start paying off my outstanding debt of $3500. (The payment is $200 a month, I can handle that.) Also, I have another question. If I take out these federal loans, is there an option to withhold payment on these loans for maybe a couple years? I don't want to be stuck with community college loan payments while i'm still trying to pay back my outstanding debt. If i'm wrong about anything please tell me why, and if you have any ideas of what I could do better please tell me. Thanks. Just some more details - My parents are completely unwilling to help me in any way, shape, or form. (They gave me the whole "You screwed up, and now you're on your own" speech) If I do need a cosigner perhaps, then I know that my father (separated from my mother) could possibly do that with me. Thanks, I checked and I do have a Stafford loan so guess it's federal. I hope you're still there. It's NOT IN DEFAULT!!!! YES! It hasn't been paid in 4 months but it isn't yet in default. This is good right? Could I start paying on this and take out another one for community college? I just realized that I owe my old school $2000. :( Well, there goes college. I just want to thank you for the help. You gave me hope. Thanks. I checked with FAFSA and they told me that my current status is withdrawn. I guess that means I have to reapply for federal aid. I'm going to contact my school ASAP and set up a payment plan. Thanks for your time.
Government not doing anything about jobs being outsourced and about student loans? Has anyone every wondered why the government isn't doing anything about the jobs being outsourced? And if former college students are having problems with paying back their loans, why can't the government do anything about these jobs so that these former college students would be able to pay the federal(and I repeat FEDERAL) students loan back? Ok we borrow federal student aid from the government and after we graduate, we would have to pay these loans back to them... So my argument is that if they need these money back to them, why can't they do anything about these jobs?? So if they want us to contribute to the society economically, why can't they do something about it?
Are student loans federal or do they go state by state? I always thought it was federal, I had gone to online college when I lived in maryland a couple years ago and then I had my daughter and money got tight, I currently owe about $8000 I have since moved to NY and I was just filling out an application for a state job and it asked if I have any outstanding student loans from NY state, so what I want to know, does it go state by state? If I have outstanding loans in one state can I get new ones in NY? (i'm not a dead beat, I pay my bills with the money I have in the priority they have, I have no intention of leaving these unpaid so please no nasty comments)
Any student loans outside of Federal loans? This is my last semester of college and I thought I would be able to pay out of pocket right away but I am not. I am maxed out on my Federal loans. I need any info you can offer about other loans that don't require a co-signer. I am desperate with not so good credit.
federal student loans and private loans? I just have a quick question about the two, what are the advantages or disadvantages of the two? I know that you have to fill out a FAFSA in order to get federal aid but why do all that when you could get a private loan, I just want to make the best decision when paying for college.
My school doesn't offer federal student loans...? I'm going to a community college that doesn't offer federal loans. I'm going to get a pell grant that will cover most of tuition but I need help with living expenses, books, computer, etc. I would get a job to make ends meet, but I'm required to have a 2 yr internship for my program, that is likely to be unpaid. My parents don't have very good credit and are wary to sign a loan in their name. Is there anything other than private loans with horribly high interest rates?
federal government student loans? my college used to get student loans from the bank. i got a letter saying that theyve switched to getting loans them from the federal government and when i got loans from the bank, i got a refund check from the school from the difference from the loan and tuition. i rely on thoughs checks to pay for books and other school supplies i may need. my question is does anyone know if ill get the same amount of money from the federal government as i did from the banks. plz, if dont have an answer to my question, do not answer. and plz dont leave any links.
i have a lien on my federal taxes for student loans that i accrued before my husband can they keep his taxes? I didnt work last year we filed jointly and claimed my daughter who is a college student
Is there a loan a college student can take out for expenses? I am a community college student. I need money for expenses, not talking of tuition or books, because federal student aid is taking care of that...but is there any loans out there that I could take out, maybe a $1000-$3000 loan to buy a laptop, gas for my car, and maybe a pair of boots for winter? I have a bank account and good credit, but I just don't have any money as I work seasonally. Plus my parents are poor and barely have enough to buy groceries.
Anyone know federal student loans pretty well? Ok, so I'm a returning student (after 6 yrs) who filled out a FAFSA indicating I was interested in Work-Study and not loans. Surprise, surprise, I've been turned down. But just because my EFC is high doesn't mean I can afford to pay for college. So I'm resubmitting the FAFSA, this time saying that loans would be acceptable too. I really have no idea what I'm getting into though. I've heard I may not have to start paying back the loan until after I graduate, but does that mean I can't make payments until then? And What if they approve a loan of X amount for me but then I find scholarships that will help. Am I still loaned the same amount? Does the college "bill" the lender up front? I've heard horror stories about people still paying off student loans when their 40, but I don't see another way of getting back into school. Eeek!
Federal Guaranteed Student Loans, are they worth taking them out in these poor economic times or ever? tell why or why not. Tell what other alternatives there are for getting funds for college. Rae, I don't understand your response at all. Getting a loan or grant depends on your parents income if you're living at home, or your income if you're working. It's not a matter of preference. remember Rae that if you trick the government they will trick you back.
Will private loans affect my Federal Student loans? I just started my 1st year at college. I applied for federal aid and was granted full cost of attendance. I was issued a refund of the remaining balance after tuition was deducted from it. It was only 3k which isn't enough for my living costs. I applied for a Private loan and was approved for it. Do private loans affect future federal loans? I applied for a school certified loan to cover my living expenses related to school. I have read that private loans can affect the cost of attendance? Can someone explain how private loans affect future financial aid?
Can A Prospective College Student Apply For A Federal Grant To Earn A Degree? I am a student attending junior college and will be transfering to University in Spring 2009. I'm looking into oppurtunities and options that will possibly help pay for college when I do. Is it possible to apply for federal grants to attend University to earn a degree? I'm well aware applying for financial aide and school loans within the college system, but is it possible to obtain federal grants apart from school? How does one go about doing it? What does "writing" a grant involve? How lengthy is the actual document? Can anyone please provide information? Thank you!
Can you recommend a company that consolidates both private & federal student loans in repayment? I have quite a few student loans, both federal & private that are in repayment. I feel like I am sending out a million payments to a million different loan companies every month. Problem is the total combined amount of all the loans I own from college amount to a great deal, and I am having trouble consolidating them with one company for ONE easy payment. Another thing I like about having one payment is that I can monitor interest rates, and make sure some of the principal is being paid. Can you recommend a company/bank that you've used in the past with great results?
Confusion about federal student loans I'm a little confused on how federal loans work exactly. I'm awaiting my award letter from my college, but since I was curious, I looked up on FAFSA4caster my estimated amount they'll give me. Needless to say, it's not enough. It said on the estimate I'm only getting $350 for unsubsidized, and $3000 for subsidized. I know the maximum for sub is $8500 for my grade level, and unsub is I believe $20,000. Now to the questions... 1. Can I get more unsubsidized loans to cover the rest? 2. Can I get more subsidized loans to cover the rest? 3. Is that $8,500/$20,000 dollar limit per year, or for the whole college career? Thank you for any responses.
I need help! Im a full-time college student who needs more loans to cover expenses that my f aid doesn't cover Is there a such thing as getting a personal needs grant? Would i qualify being that i work and live off campus? I would like to take out a personal loan, but i cannot deal with the variable interest rates thing. I have unsubsidized and the subsidized, but they still aren't enough. I need a car, books, etc. Other than the federal loans, are there any other student loans i can burrow that has a fixed interest rate? Is there any help out there?
I am a college student, needing a loan, without a cosigner, good credit, federal loans don't cover expenses.? I am 22, have credit in the 700's, and need to find a loan without a cosigner. I have filled out the FAFSA but based on my parents income, I can't receive enough money to cover my schooling. Does anyone know of a specific loan that may help me out?? Thanks!
would i be able to take out a federal student loan for 4 years at a major university? i heard federal student loans are great for people with bad credit or can't get a cosigner, but if i get into a major university, will they cover my books, all four years of college (about 80,000 altogether), and then give me 6 months before i will start paying them back? if not, how will that work?
Federal Student Loans in DEFAULT? Help!? I live in the state of Texas now, but I use to attend college in South Dakota. I took out a federal student loan and when I left in 2005, I began attending in a community college in Aug of 2005 until Spring 2007. I am now enrolled for January 2009 classes to finish up my degree. Yesterday I got a letter at my job from the Education Assistance Corporation for my employer to "ORDER OF WITHHOLDING EARNINGS". I tried to contact an agent, and she would not give me a payment plan, instead she demanded I sign an authorized statement to give my bank account number so that they could take the money out every month, and if I pay for the next 9 consecutive months, they will put my loan in a rehabilitation program which will take it out from default. I was told that it was not advisable that I give them my bank account number. Does anyone have any advice about what I could do? Is it possible for me to set up a payment plan, or is it too late? I was also told that there was some law that prohibited them from garnishing my wages in the state of Texas which is where I am employed, is this true? I thought they had to take me court before they could start garnishing my wages? Can I consult an attorney?
Can I live off of federal student loans? I am a college sophomore. I am transferring to a different university after this fal semester. My parents make decent money (they are realtors, so the are not on salary). This year they are going to make a lot of money, so I won't be getting a lot of money from the Pell Grant. I have not worked since college. I am pre-med, so I have to focus on keeping a high GPA and volunteering/school clubs, etc. So, when I transfer, I still am not going to work. My parents will pay for my college tuition/books, but I am going to have to take out student loans in order to pay for my living expenses. I figured that it will cost me about $950 a month in order to live. My question is: Will I be able to get enough federal students loans in order to pay for ALL my living expenses while in college? Also...who do I need to contact in order to find out the exact amount of money I will be awarded per year? I'm going to take summer classes too, so please take that into consideration! I will need about $12,000 in order to live per year. Would I be able to get enough student loans (govt. sub, govt. unsub, and federal parent loan) per school year??? My parents do NOT want to cosign anything.
Can I use a federal or private student loan to cover my living expenses? Can I use my private student loan to pay for my apartment's rent/utilities/and my other personal living expenses? My parents have agreed to pay for all of my college expenses, but they said I will have to find a way to pay for my apartment and living expenses. Is this doable? If so, do federal student loans and/or private student loans cover these costs? By the way...the apartment is not affiliated with the university...so the apartment doesn't count as "room & board" does it? Please help me!
Is it a good idea for a college student to use a student loan to pay for off campus housing? My friend's son wants to rent an apartment off campus with a friend of his. They go to a university in a small, rural community with cheap rent. He found out (and being familiar with the area I believe this to be true) that off campus housing, including food, is actually cheaper than living on campus. My question is: do you think that it is advisable to use his private (non federal) loans to pay for housing off campus. He does have a scholarship that pays for all of his tuition and fees, so really all he has to pay for is the housing. He doesn't work during school, only during the summer. That's not enough for him to pay rent with the rest of the year, especially with the summer classes he plans to take.
College student loans? the school i will be attending has offered me the stafford loan and federal plus loan. i dont want the federal plus loan in my parents name, can i get it in my name? or what else could i do
