Could you add loans to Student Loan Repayment Program? I recently enlisted in the military (reserve) and I don't qualify for the GI Bill or kicker, but it did say I have the SLRP (Student Loan Repayment Program). I currently do not have any student loans, but I will need to use some when I start college again. Will I be able to add loans throughout my enlistment or is it only prior military loans?
Will there be a penalty for early repayment of my consolidated student loans? I'm just finishing up grad school and my employer will give me a bonus every year that I would like to put towards my loan repayment. Is there typically a penalty for early repayment of a consolidated student loan? Will a large lump sum payment postpone the due date on future payments, or will a payment be due every month despite the large single payment?
Semester + Summer off, will my student loans begin repayment? I completed my associates degree at a community college during the fall semester and will be transferring to a university this next fall. I will have been out of enrollment in at least 6 credit hours for 7 months. That's over the repayment grace period of 6 months, so I'm assuming I will need to begin repayment on my loans. But once I get to the university, I will be enrolled full-time again. Will I need to continue repaying my loans or will the repayment period be on hold once I am a full-time student again?
Can you explain student loan repayment benefits in the Army? I have a lot of student loans from college and grad school. I have seen ads for student loan repayment upon joining the Army Reserve. Are these only for enlisted or officer, too? Any other details would be helpful. I'm also interested in any student loan repayment in other branches.
What are the requirements for the Air National Guard $20,000 Student Loan Repayment Program? I am about to join the Washington Air National Guard and wondering what the requirements are for the student loan repayment program. What type of loans are qualified for this program? When can I get a loan or does it have to be a loan that was previously received? What are the places that I should get the loan from that qualifies for this program? If you can provide me with some websites it would be greatly appreciated.
Can I get a Stafford Loan with the student loan repayment program? Hi there I signed up for 6 years in the reserves, I'm on my 3rd year now. I really want to do the lpn to rn bridge program but don't have enough money to take all the classes I need. I got a 20000 student loan repayment but I never had any student loans before I joined the army. Can I still use it for when I decide to get a loan this year?
Student Loan Repayment program for commissioning Army National Guard officers? Hi, I am an rotc cadet, and I will commission in December. I have a few student loans, and I was wondering what the policy is on student loan repayment programs for commissioning officers into the guard. Is there any SLRP anymore? Or does the guard stop doing that cause its over strengthed? Also, are they never any commissioning bonus's usually for an officer branching aviation?
Is it possible to sue a school for repayment of student loans? I just don't believe that I should be held liable for something I never physically received or have anything of physical proof to show for it. The school I attended dropped my due to financial issues, I strongly believe that negates any responsibility I may have to pay back the loans.
Could the repayment of Federal Student loans cause your child support amount to reduce? If you have to pay back federal student loans, can you get a child support modification. For those of you who think I am trying to avoid child support, that is not true. Since both are federal mandate payments(meaning you can not file bankruptcy to get rid of them, than it should be included into the guideline). Also getting educated not only benefits myself, but the child too. Because if I am able to get a better paying job, it will help increase the child standard of living too.
Student Loans??????????? I am confused and stressed. My husband attends college and he does have a stafford loan. We want to start paying some of it back. We would like to buy a new home want less debt when we do so. What can we do to lower the loan amount, Grants etc and just out of curiousity what is you loan repayment on students loans. JUst to have a rough idea.
Private Student Loans Repayment Question? I have about $50k in federal student loans, already consolidated. But I have another $70k in private ones with two lenders I CAN NOT get consolidated. I have tried numerous times and if I can even get a positive decision, the interest rate and payment is too high (thanks recession). And right now, the full payments every month are huge. I've exhausted the interest only payment periods. So I am considering this. Sending a flat $50 to each private loan for the rest of my life, whether they like it or not. I've read online that $50 a month keeps you out of default and legal ramifications. Now I know they will trash my credit, but at least by keeping the federal one up to date, they can't get my annual tax returns or do garnishments, etc.. So basically I'd like to put the private ones on a forced kind of forever repayment. Anyone know if this is going to work? Or how it might pan out.
Does using a forbearance on my student loans effect my military student loan repayment the same way as default? I am leaving for the US ARMY and want to know my options for my loans. My father was helping me pay them and recently died. I enrolled in student loan repayment option through the ARMY, so after 4 years all of my loans will be paid off, even the PLUS loans (except for the interest) While I was approved for military deferment on the loans in my name, the ones in my mother's name are not eligible for any deferment. Deferment doesn't DQ the loans for student loan repayment, but letting them go into default does. Can I use the allotted forbearance time, or does forbearance, like default, DQ them from the Repayment Program? Thanks.
Can I defer my student loans after they have entering repayment? I have both federal and private student loans and I want to know can I defer them when go to graduate school. But, I'm not going to graduate school right after I graduate in 2010. I will waiting a year before I go in Fall of 2011. Can I defer them after they begin repayment on 12/2010. Thanks
Should the repayment of student loans be abolished? Why don't we just give them accomodation, free books and equipment without making them carry round a millstone of debt for several years? Views ta. mummy fi: Are you saying that those from poor backgrounds should be stopped from taking further education? And would some of you read the edit bit under the Q before sounding off, I'm on about the repayment of the loans, not the abolishment of students services.
How does the Student Loan Repayment Program work in the army? I am considering enlisting in the army and I was wondering how the student loan repayment program works. I have done some research so i do know that they pay a portion of the principle amount of a federal loan every year that you are enlisted and that you must score a 50 or higher on the ASVAB...plus be eligble for a MOS. But I want to know how the program works from an insider....or someone who has done quite a bit of research. Any details will help. Thanks!
How many promissory notes are there when getting student loans from the same institution? I'm a student right now, and i have gotten a total of 2 student loans from citibank. One was 10k for my freshman year and the other was 5k for my sophomore year. I'm right now in the military and trying to get the student loan repayment program, and they're asking me for promissory notes for both loans, but from what I remember, I didn't get a promissory note on my second 5k loan, because I got from the same account and same institution... Would this second promissory note, does it exist? would it be needed?
Student Loans Repayment? Hello, I have 3 students loans that I have accrued throughout my college career. I recently graduated and have begun thinking of repayment options. Two of the loans are government loans, and one is private, Stafford Loan, Perkins Loan, and NJ Class loan respectively. I was wondering what the best option was for repaying i.e. loan consolidation or paying each loan separately. The Perkins I would not include in consolidation as it experiences a fixed rate of approx. 4%. I was thinking it might be possible to take out a regular bank loan (especially with these low interest rates) and use the proceeds to pay back all my loans and only have to worry about this new bank loan. Does anyone know if that is possible? Thanks very much in advance.
Can anyone help with a question about student loan repayment in the Marine Corps? For a long time I have wanted to join the Marine Corps. I graduated college with a double-major BA in English and History, and owe a fair amount of money (not a massive amount, just more than I would like to), and was wondering if the Marine Corps had some sort of program to help me pay it off. The thing is, most of these programs seem slanted to those becoming officers. I, however, am not that interested in going that route. Can an enlisted Marine get help repaying there student loans? Thanks for your help.
Student Loan Repayment in the National Guard? Well I signed up for the National Guard back in August 2006. I am now finished with training, and already reported to my unit. What I know now that I didn't know then, was that the National Guard can pay up to $3000 a year for a student loan repayment on my students loans. But can I still sign up for this even though I have a contract? Or can it be added to a contract? Kinda like how later on you can sign up for the GI Bill if you didn't previously.
Student Loan Repayment for commissioning officers? I am a SMP Cadet in ROTC and I commission in December. When I enlisted in the Army National Guard, my recruiter did not tell me anything about student loan repayment so I enlisted without that option. Now I am about to commission and I have $13000 in student loans ( I went to a private college), and I was wondering if either the federal government or the national guard would allow me to pick up the student loan repayment once I commission. Anybody know if this is possible?
Will my student loans go into repayment when I transfer? I'm almost done with my A.A.S. and I plan on transferring to a university that has an upside down degree plan. Or I might transfer those credits to work on a bachelors degree in general studies. Since the A.A.S. is a technical degree, and it is not common that they transfer, will I have to start repaying loans when I get the A.A.S? And will I still be eligible for the Pell Grant?
How does student loan repayment work in the Army? they told me they cover up to 65k - I have 50k they said they will pay no problem. does the army assume your loans automatically or do you have to defer them, what? I heard something like every year they pay 33.3% of your loans so by the time 4 years are up, you are fully paid for. Anyone know how this works, better? thanks slim, i didnt know the AF has slrp too. i thought only the army did.
I am a CPS teacher. How can I get help with repayment of student loans.? I received my Masters in December of 2006. My loans are at 44,000 and the interest is about 53,000, leaving me to pay about 97,000. That is a lot of money! Is there any help out here? I work in a depressed area. Does anyone know about the Chicago Public School System or educational system? Is there anyone that I could contact to help lessen thes payment?
Student loans repayment? I dropped below half-time this semester because I had swine flu then pneumonia the first half and found it difficult to keep up in all but one of my classes when I returned. I was denied my medical appeal, though, so my loans are officially entering grace period. Generally speaking, when I return to school in December (winter intersession) will I still have to start paying back my loans when the grace period is over? Or will re-enrollment in school full-time allow everything to continue on as it would have?
Does the Army Reserves have ad-so for student loan repayment? My husband is in the Army ROTC program and when he commissions he wants to be in the Army Reserves. He was told that if he went active duty he could ad-so one year to his contract and the Army would pay up to $25,000 in student loans. Does the Army Reserves have this also?
Is there an H&R Block-like service that will help me work out the best plan for student loan repayment? I wish there was someone I could hire - like an H&R Block type person - who would take all my student loan information and figure it out, and work out how best to consolidate it, and then clearly tell me, "Here's the lowest payment I could get you for the next X years, at which time your student loans will be paid off or forgiven." Does anything like that even exist, and, if so, with whom should I be speaking?
How to get more info on obama's new student loan repayment plan? I have 250,000 in debt from med school grad plus loans. The plan says federal loans are set at 15% of a persons income. My loans were private to begin with but in July 2009 the government took them over. I was wondering if grad plus loans fall in that category. I'm guessing that's why the government took them over so they would be covered, but I was not sure.
How much was/is your monthly student loan repayment after you graduate? I will be attending college next year and will need financial aid and loans to get me through my schooling. I am just curious what the approximate amount people have to pay back monthly to the banks or whoever you got your loan from after you graduate from college? Like, $300-$500 monthly?? Thanks for you info
Can I use Student Stafford Loans to pay on private student loans? I am in the US Army Reserve, as a benefit I am afforded Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). However it only pays for federal insured loans so I need a way to convert my private loans to federal. Please only answer if you are sure and can give reputable advice.
Can I transfer my student loan repayment? i have student loan repayment in my contract but no loans. can I use this to pay for my wife's student loans? ok to make it clear i'm in iraq right now. i got loan repayment with my bonus and gi bill. i signed up when the army needed people. and i'm pretty sure the loan repayment isnt just limited to what i had before i joined.
Student Loans Repayment Plan Question? Based on the fact that I was a child of a lower middle class family with no specific talents for a scholarship I had to finance a majority of my education with student loans for a total amount of 34,000. What do you suggest now that I have to repay them. Should I 1) get a second job to pay off the loans as fast as possible or 2) Pay more than the monthly minimum payment to finish a few years early or 3) Pay the minimum payment and finish paying off the loans when a I am 55 yrs. I have no plans to buy a house or any real estate in the near future and I realize that repaying the loans is a great way to build credit. Which of the three routes should I take to repay the loans??? Serious answers only.
Where and how to get student loans? Need some info on how to get student loans and where. From process to finish. I have a student loan repayment up to 10,000 dollars. What do students usually get with the loans? and how does it get issued out to say if you need a laptop?
Private Student loans Repayment/Saving Options? Is there anybody out there that know how to manage Private/Alternative Student Loans? I was 17 when they let me take out a 18K loan for school and 11K for living expenses, times that by two years and the compounded interest puts me at 60K, $500 a month payments. There is just no way to afford that and be able to pay for even basic living expenses. The only things I've come across is deferment or graduated payments which will just put me in a worse situation. Is there anybody that knows if there is a savings plan for people like me? Or switching it to credit card debt, or anything??!! Any information will be helpful as the lenders feel that it's the borrowers fault and have no options for me. How dare there be such an industry taking advantage of high school students, ruining the next 20-30 years of their life and no one is talking about it?!! They are so much more evil then the credit card companies, Making you think you are investing in your future, never showing you that your salary will never be enough to pay their loan off.
What's the best way to use 20,000?: Student loan repayment? I am getting 20K from the Indian Health Service to help me pay back my student loans, because I work in a rural indian health center. They make a direct deposit to me - I have about 130K in loans to pay back. As long as I have qualifying loans I can reapply each year for another 20K. If I send the money directly to the loaner and take 20K off the top, my monthly payment will only reduce about $150/mo if I'm lucky. If I bank the 20K instead and use it for monthly payments of say, $1500/mo then I could keep what is NOW coming out of pocket ($850/mo) to increase my personal income - which is desperately needed. So, bottom line there is I would be increasing my payments by 650/mo. Question is, would this be better for me or worse in the long run due to compound interest rates? $150/mo decrease in monthly payments with 20K off the top of 130K owed. OR bank the 20K and increase monthly payments 650/mo. HELP! My loans range from 8% for state loans (80K) and 3-4% federal loans 50K. HELP!
Should I take the MGIB or student loan repayment? About to join the Army but not too sure which I should take. I have about $25,000 in student loans which would be awesome to pay off, but I plan on going back to business school to get my MBA which can be pricey. My MGIB would be for $47,000. I've heard a lot of schools/states have tuition discounts for veterans... so in this case it would make sense to pay off the student loans because tuition wouldn't be too costly. Any advice?
What is the average student loan repayment time? I'm a sixth form student who's looking into colleges to join in 2010. It looks as if I'll need to take out a £30,000 student loan to cover courses and accommodation if I live on campus. I'm just concerned as to how long this will take to pay back when I get to £15,000 a year.
Deceased persons student loan repayment? When an unmarried person passes away owing a lot of money in student loans and credit card debt, does repayment become the childrens responsibility? What if they are all under the age of 18? What happens to the debt? Is it forgiven?
Student Loan Repayment Jobs Best Worst Fastest? This is a bit of a complexicated question. I have over 10K left on my federal student loan. I understand teaching, military and some labor positions support 5k per year or so repayment directly to your student loan. Got any recommendations or feedback on the fastest way to do such a thing?
How can I delay my student loan repayment? A few years ago I went to college and didn't finish. I couldn't afford to make the payments. They want to garnish my wages. Can I temporarily slow payments, I heard of something called an deferment or fore bearing if that makes sense. I can't afford them garnishing my wages I know eventually I will have to pay them back, but not right now. Please help thank you !
Extended student loan repayment or any other options? Recently I applied to extended my student loan monthly repayment over 25 years instead of the standard 10 years. I was rejected due to the fact that my oldest loan was originated on or after October 7, 1998 (I started school 1997!!). Since I cannot afford paying $800 per month, what other options do I have? Thanks in advance,
I want to work overseas after graduation... How will this affect my student loan repayment? I want to apply to the JET program and teach English overseas after I graduate, but I will have a substantial amount of student loan debt, which I would have 6 months to start paying on after graduation. I'm not trying to shirk my responsibilities, I'm just wondering how that would work. I would be working under a yearly contract for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5 years. Would my loans be deferred until I return, or would I just have to find a way to pay for them from overseas?
Extended repayment on student loans? I am in a 5 year degree program and I am an independent student. My parents are deceased, so ever since I've been in school I"ve been funding this on my own. This means I've taken out quite a bit in student loans to help cover my living expenses while I go to school. Well, I'm about 2 1/2 years into my program and I've already taken out $16,000 in loans. Now that I'm transferring to a University, I'm looking at about a total loan debt by the time I graduate of close to $50,000 - $60,000. I just went to student loan exit counseling yesterday because I'm transferring and they said the average monthly repayment on a $30,000 in a 10 year repayment plan was like $350.00 a month. Well, if I take out $60,000, then that would make my monthly payments almost $700.00 a month?! This is not going to be realistic considering I'm only looking at making about $35,000 a year out of college. Are extended repayment options available?
Question about student loan repayment? I took out student loans in the course of my college career, but have since dropped out of school. I don't know when I have shelling out my pittance of a salary to repay these conglomo-banks, but I assume it's "after I graduate". Well, I pretty much know at this point that my future "career" will be limited to menial labor and low-paying jobs. Basically, I'm curious as to whether, if I don't finish repayment before I die, that these debts will be passed on to my offspring? Will these loans be theirs to repay to repay?
how does student loans work? I never took one out before and i would like to know how they work. so far i only know that student loans repayment does not start until graduation or 6 months after graduation. my questions are: 1. are the loans affiliated with school? or are they separate private entities ilke citi, chase, etc 2. how does the loan get to me? does it come by check in the mail and i cash it and pay it to the school as if its like my own money?, or do i have to provide proof of the tuition bill first in order to get the loan money. 3. what are the requirements to get a student loan? i am almost done with community college and im going to a 4 yr school in the fall. is it a complicated processs and does it take awhile to get through? thank you all for your responses.
is there a way to figure out what companies i owe student loan repayment to? i thought it was all through one company that i have been paying but i got a random letter today from a different company and i now owe so much more to them and it makes me wonder what i did and why and who else i owe. my dad always just told me to accept whatever loans were offered and when i went into the school payment history it lists loans but not the companies and i dont want to ruin my credit any more than it is now.
Can you recommend a company that consolidates both private & federal student loans in repayment? I have quite a few student loans, both federal & private that are in repayment. I feel like I am sending out a million payments to a million different loan companies every month. Problem is the total combined amount of all the loans I own from college amount to a great deal, and I am having trouble consolidating them with one company for ONE easy payment. Another thing I like about having one payment is that I can monitor interest rates, and make sure some of the principal is being paid. Can you recommend a company/bank that you've used in the past with great results?
Repayment of undergraduate student loans if in grad school? If I were to take out a student loan for the remainder of my undergraduate degree, but then went straight into a graduate school. Would the payments on the undergrad loan begin 6 months after that graduation? Or 6 months after graduation from grad school?
Where is my money best spent on loan repayment? Auto loan vs. Student loan? I have a $3500 balance on my car loan at about 6% and 24 payments remaining. I have a $10000 balance on my supplemental student loan at %11 and 10 years remaining. I currently have a $4000 surplus I am planning on putting towards my loans. I am having trouble figuring where my money is best spent? Pay off the car loan now, and then put the extra monthly savings to the student loan, or pay down the student loan a little and continue on business as usual? Thanks.
How much are your monthly payments for your student loans? ? I have 32 K in various private and federal student loans. According to Sallie Mae's loan repayment calculator, if I went with a standard repayment plan my monthly payments would be 300 per month. Will their other options make my monthly payments lower than this? They will not give me information because my repayment does not start until June 2010. Does anyone have 30 -40 K in student loans (private and federal) and what are you paying per month?
How can I defer student loan repayment while working abroad? I graduate this coming May and will have to begin repaying my loans that following fall. I have the opportunity to take part in a teaching assistantship program teaching English in France. I will be paid very little and therefore will not have the money to make my payments, but I do not want to miss this opportunity. Is there a way I can defer my loan repayments until I return from France? Thank you.
