What was the extent of French funding of the American Revolution, in loans and bequeathals, direct and indrct?
This is not a homework question -- It's for an intro to a civil war song, in which I suggest that the civil war was the true establishment of America -- that the revolution depended on the French. I'm also interested in figures for French ships and troops supplied. Very good, very good. Give me facts and figures, peoples. Please.

- Weapons, most of which failed to work. The biggest help was the French navy with held the British navy at bay.
- I don't have the money figures but we could not have won without them. (And I am NOT a fan of France after refusing to join us in Iraq) Basically the French Revolution (off with their heads) happened because they helped us. The country went into debt sending so much (troops, ships, weapons) to America. So when the taxes were high and quality of living was down the French peasants took a page out of our book and revolted.
