Private College Student Loan

Can you get a private student loan if you go to a technical college?

  1. Yes, but to be honest, you should seriously re-evaluate the decision to attend a technical college that does not participate in the federal student aid program. Every technical school is eligible to participate (and many do), those that don't are simply not willing or able to meet the program requirements. That should be a cause of concern for you, because the requirements are all things that guarantee the quality of the program. For a school to be accepted into the federal aid system, it must be accredited by a responsible and respected accreditation agency, it must satisfy certain rules for the integrity of its financial management, a certain number of students must complete the program satisfactorily every year, and a certain percentage of graduates must get a job after leaving the program. A student should really think twice about a program that can't satisfy those conditions. By attending a school that does qualify, you will be eligible for consideration for free grant funds, and you will also have access to the Stafford loan program, which is a far, far cheaper source of college lending than any private student loan. Do yourself the favor of reviewing your options to see if there is a federal aid participant that offers that your degree program in your area. But, yes, if all else fails, you can get a private student loan to attend a technical college. Good luck to you.
