Do big banks like C H A S E & Bank of America give to A C O R N? Will you close your accounts?
Mortgage Counseling. Chase provides funds to mortgage counseling agencies to help borrowers qualify for a mortgage loan and understand the mortgage process. In 2007, Chase provided more than $7.3 million in philanthropic grants to support financial education programs and initiatives, $2.4 million of which was for mortgage counseling. Organizations receiving funding included ACORN Housing Corporation, Raza Development Fund and NHS of NYC. http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2009/20090203060343.aspx But, this latest indiscretion has gone unnoticed by the media – a donation in the amount of $2 million to the ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) Housing Corporation of Chicago, according to a document posted on Bank of America corporate philanthropy Web site – which shows the bank had given the total amount in grant money from October 2007 through June 2009.

- i will support them more
- These payments are part of the extortion practiced by Acorn. Earlier in his career Obama served as an Acorn lawyer in some of these extortion lawsuits. Acorn sues the banks, exploiting so-called fair housing laws passed by the Democrats, and the banks agree to pay money to Acorn to get them to go away. The banks didn't write these laws, so they are not the villains here. If America is going to vote for Democrats, this is the kind of thing America will get as a result. Needless to say, the extortion payments by banks are part of their cost structure, and bank customers end up paying.
- I quit banking with BOA years ago when I found out that they were giving home loans to illegal aliens. The minute I find out my bank has taken bailout money, I will close my account with them as well. (as far as I know... they have not) There are too many banks out there to put up with this crap. Alarmist---- Your second paragraph is true... but I don't care. I don't have to do business with ANY organization that I feel acts unethically. And I WILL NOT.
- You seem to be under the impression that when a corporation donates money or services to a non-profit organization, you are entitled to know about it. You're not. Bank of America and Citi don't have to make their tax returns available to you. And if a million small depositors closed their accounts with Bank of America or Citi, it wouldn't put a dent in their annual income. Those banks make more money in one cross-border financing transaction than they make from all their depositors in a single year combined.
- dam those bankers looking at facts and not being parnoid how can they not go into a frenzy based on nothing like you dam them and their logic
- all i know is obama/pelosi/reid's 3.4 trillion dollar budget gave $2 BILLION to acorn.....non partisian group my ass!!
- I think this clearly shows who is actually running and controlling our puppet government. It couldn't be any clearer for anyone who has a half a brain.
- I am amazed at how the right wing has turned ACORN into villains. They are a non-profit community group not a cult and not some evil nemesis. They got into trouble because some of their voter registration people cheated. But the organization reported this to election officials and Mickey Mouse and Wonder Woman never unfairly voted in any election. At this point, the only ACORN employees who are in trouble are some members from Nevada who gave bonuses for large numbers of signature- they shouldn't have done that and are being prosecuted for it. But that is far from condemning the entire organization. You people need to find a better villain.
- Probably Yes. I Hate Crooks of America, They are rude, charge you 5 bucks to cash a check written by one of their own clients, if you don't have an account... Then if you do have an account, it costs you 5 bucks just to drive past the Bank on your way to the Post Office.
- Yes, some large banks give money to ACORN and similar groups. I haven't had any accounts with big banks in many years. I am a member of two local credit unions. I love it. No fees, no bail outs, and no hassles. Plus great service. I'll never go back to the big banks.
