Private College Student Loan

How can I get student loans if my school isn't recognized by the department of education?

I'm currently studying at a major European conservatory of music. The tuition itself is almost nothing, compared to US schools. But the living expenses in this city are very high. I need to find some sort of way to get loan money.. or scholarship money. It is a bit frustrating when there seems to be tons of money for students that want to come and "study" in Europe like it's some vacation. I'm here and I'm actually at one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. I can't believe the US doesn't recognize it but it recognizes some of the beauty schools or something like that in this city. But, I've already checked my student aid center here and there is no way the US government will give me money, and also not from my school abroad. I find it so hard to believe that there is no way for me to get money to help me study here... when there is so much money for these "study abroad" programs that are really just vacations for students. I'm not in a study abroad program, but I'm actually in the school' bachelor program.

  1. I wouldn't say the US Dept of Ed thinks they are all vacations. I just think the government and the general US population frown upon hard earned tax dollars being spend outside the US. Unfortunately, study abroad programs are for those who can afford them on their own (or who have family members who can fit the bill). If I were you, I'd get a job or two and save, save, save... THAT is the good old fashioned way to do this. I promise the school will still be there in two years or however long it takes you to save up enough for living expenses. In the mean time, move in with mom or dad or another relative so you can save every penny of what you earn. If they can't help you by giving you cash, maybe they can do that to help.
