Private College Student Loan

Deferring Sallie Mae private student loans?

I received a letter stating that I will be required to start paying back my sallie mae private student loans at the end of Nov. I took this semester off and that's why they're coming after me. I was planning on going back in January. Is there anyway that I can ask them to defer once I'm back in school?

  1. you will probably have to just call and talk to them. Usually once you stop school they require you to start paying them back. As long as you return and stay going to school they will usually realize that you are back in school and let you defer again. Not always though so you need to call them to discuss your personal account with them. Deferring sounds great and is as long as you are in school, but once you get out and decide to stay out then try not to defer if possible. I am STILL paying on student loans and I have been out of college for 10 years.
