Private College Student Loan

How do I write the Dept. of Education for loan deferment?

I have several student loans (from various lenders), some of which are up for payment soon. I am going back to school in the next few months and want to defer my payments... where do obtain the form for in-school deferment and what is the address I send it to? ALSO; will requesting the Dept of Education for deferment cover the different/various student loans i have - or will I have to send a request for every loan individually?

  1. Call the number they give you with your loan acceptance papers- many times you can set it over the phone but while you are talking to them you could get the address. i think they usually group the loans together- but ask when you call
  2. You don't need to contact the Department of Education for a loan deferment. You need to contact your lendors and request a deferment. Normally on their websites they will have the form to fill out.
  3. The Department of Education has nothing whatsoever to do with this. You will have to contact the lender of each of your loans and negotiate a deferment with them. Again, this is all specifically from each lender, so they will have different forms, rules, and policies that you will have to deal with.
