I need help with student loan issue! The bank that gave me the loan and the servicer isn't helping me!?
I have a private student loan through U.S. Bank that is serviced through Great Lakes Education Services. It took me 3 months and a $114 cell phone bill to make this happen and U.S. Bank approved it. NOW, Great Lakes is saying that my account is delinquent when its supposed to be on a forbarence?!?!? I called great lakes and they directed me to U.S. bank and U.S. Bank hasn't returned any of my messages. I'm at the end of my rope and they're pissing me off because it's damaging my credit because somebody effed up. What can I do? Sorry, I should have mentioned that this particular loan is on a forbarence...thats what took the 3 months...

- Wow, sounds like this loan was more trouble than it's worth. Well, I guess simplest thing to do is pay it off, and never do business with them again. Other than that, keep calling or speak to the department of education.
- Unfortunately since it's a private loan, only Great Lakes or US Bank can help you. Keep calling, and be persistent but polite. Worst case scenario, if you still can never get it resolved, you can try submitting a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Private student loans don't have the same types of protections that federal student loans have, but you should still be able to get an answer. If you don't get a good answer from the rep on the phone, ask to talk to somebody higher up! Good luck!
