I have student loans and when I die will the insurance policies have to pay loans?
If I have student loans and I die, will the insurance policy that I have with my husband as the beneficiary go to pay those student loans and not go to him? He is not on the student loans though.

- your joint debts would be due against your estate. interesting Q but I think NOT
- No, the money goes to him as beneficiary. The student loan folks have no right to try and collect from him, if he's not a co-signer on the loans.
- if they are federal loans, when the borrower dies, the loans are discharged (meaning no one pays them) the government absorbes the cost. This is why federal loans are a good deal. If these are private loans, your cosigner (whoever that is) is responsible for repaying your loans.
- Nope...so let all ur beneficiaries know NOT to pay student loans if u die...God forbid of course
