Private College Student Loan

Are private institution student loans guarenteed in the same way as public/government student loans?

I have public student loans, and I have a private student loan to repay. Is it the same situation with the private/institutional loan that I can't get out of it, no matter what? thanks for any input.

1. If you go bankrupt you can get out of private loans. However, if you have a co signer they still have to pay unless they go bankrupt too.
