Private College Student Loan

My school isn't affilliated with Citibank for a student loan?

How can I get my school to be affilliated with Citibank? I have never heard of a school not being on file with a loan institution before?

  1. lol. Most schools loan programs are federally sponsored. which means a fixed rate. Citibank really doesnt offer a fixed rate loan unless you got super credit. Citibank probably offered student loans but due to the credit crunch and students defaulting pulled out and said it was to much risk.
  2. Your school probably just has not done business with them in the past, or has not listed them on their "preferred lender list" This is not a problem for you though. If you want to use Citibank they HAVE to let you. I am assuming you are using them for federal Stafford loans - not private ed loans. If you are doing a Stafford you will likely have to get a Master Promissory Note from Citibank to complete for the Stafford loan. Complete it and send it in to the school you are attending. Request that they be used as your lender. I will say though, that if your school is not setup to work with them on a regular basis it is going to slow everything on your loans down though. Most likely a lot of the paperwork has to be done by hand with hard-copy rather than online. Checks might even come via paper instead of EFT. Sometimes it is easier to use the lenders that your school works with regularly because the system is usually faster and they are able to rectify problems quicker for you. But in the end they must honor who you choose.
